There is some tropical flowers up the hill that you can oonly seen in the dry season. If you go by yourself with a ented motorbike, you could riding around the island but you miss every little piece.

Bukit Holbung is a hill covered by grasses, south of Pangururan town at the mainland side. In addition to its location and elevation, it is one of the best places to view geological feature of Lake Toba around Pangururan, which features rolling hills and mountains with lush grasslands and sparse trees, and green bushes found at lower elevation nearer to the lake surface. Its elevation is just nice to view the lake water without too much of reflection on the water surface. The trail is clear and straightforward, and goes through many levels of increasing altitude. A short 15 min walk is required to reach a height with magnificent view. To the north, a bay with rolling hills and Pusuk Buhit Mountain can be seen while to the south is Sihotang Valley and the surrounding rolling mountains. More serious hikers can climb all the way to the top, which takes around an hour. Nature lovers would find the view here to be grandiose and exceedingly beautiful.

It was about 70 kms from Tuktuk but well worth the visit for the panoramic view over Lake Toba. There is a small entrance charge and a one hour climb to the top. Unfortunately it was an extremely hot day so we did not go all the way.

The view itself is spectacular and the whole journey to Holbung is also breathtaking. Never in my life I saw lots of greenery view in a short span of time.

There is a proper stairs but for those who doesn't exercise (like me), you will feel slightly short of breath but it just temporary before you just saw the 360 view. It would be nice if I could camp but I knew, I am not one of those.

The road can be hilly and adventurous as well. To future visitors, please keep this place clean ya

Me and my friends arrived in Holbung Hill about 9pm, there you only see the lake with light from the moon. We just build the tent and enjoy the night under the sky view, Where you can see the stars shining.
But wait until the morning comes, you will see awesome sunrise that colored the hills with such perfect color. To get the Holbung Hill is quite tiring 😁

This is one of my favorite spot of Samosir island. It's the view. In my own opinion, its so beautiful. I came to this spot few times, since the local becak/tuk tuk guy showed me and I love spending an hour or bit more there, have little picnic or just to chill reading my books. The view of the Toba lake, Waterfalls, and rice field of the local people is really calming.

If you're visiting Medan-Lake Toba-Samosir Island, be sure to include Holbung Hill into your itinerary. You won't regret it at all. Not even a bit.

Entrance fee is only 10000 rupiah. Journey to Holbung Hill could be taxing to your vehicle but it's not really a big deal.

Spend about 30 mins - 1 hour up at Holbung depending on the weather and time of the day. It was windy, cooling and cloudy when I visited. The walk up takes only about 20mins but the walk to the end differs.

You will be rewarded with some awesome and bad-ass view of Toba Lake.

JUST GO!

Visiting this hill while rainy season. The mountain is green and fresh. We can also star at Samosir Island separated by calm and shiny Lake of Toba.

The hike itself is a little tiring, but the view makes the climb worth it. We did not summit the top of the hill as the view was pretty much the same after a certain height.

Some parts of the hill is steep, take precaution when climbing as there is no steps/handrails after the first 15mins of the ascend.
