Given that the dry season is not the best for the forest (the trees in fact appear bare) I found the place overall very particular and suggestive. In particular the savannah area and the beautiful beach, among mangrove forests and large centenary ficus trees.
Watch out for the monkeys! It's full of macaques and they are hungry and thieving. And you shouldn't cross them because they become aggressive.
We saw deer drinking and a herd of buffalo lying in the shade to protect themselves from the sun. Then several wild peacocks…. Overall, a satisfying tour that I recommend. The best time to visit is the afternoon, perhaps with the beach at sunset, to admire the sun going out in the ocean. Many animals also show themselves around that time.

Baluran National Park has a good views, especially when the sunrise appears. It is located in Situbondo Regency, East Java, Indonesia.

This Baluran Safari Park has a relatively dry climate and mainly consists of savanna (40%), as well as lowland forests, mangrove forests and hills, with Mount Baluran (1,247m) as its highest peak.

This park is set in nice scenery but visitors are not allowed to get out and walk across the savanna so this limits the enjoyment. During the day the deer and buffaloes stay away from the road so we only saw one female deer and her fawn close up. Of course we saw hundreds of monkeys but they are nothing special. The beach and mangrove area is also quite pleasant though it has limited access along walkways.
The park is ok but I would not go back again for a repeat visit.

Baluran National Park is similar to the atmosphere in the African desert during the dry season. And in the rainy season, there will be a green atmosphere that is refreshing to the eyes. We will meet many various animals in the morning and evening

Baluran park is a very beautiful nature park with an African savannah where you can see water buffalo, deer, hornbills, black eagles, black monkeys and many other animals. You can also easily explore the park by bike (a trip of max 15-20 km) via the few asphalt roads there are. These are usually used by jeeps to drive around with visitors but our experience was that you see a lot more with the bike. At the entrance of the park there are bicycles for rent (but this is not clearly displayed). There is also a shuttle bus that runs from Banyuwangi to the park (but this is also little known) so tourists often opt for a safari formula. You can also stay in Wonorejo, a small village right next to the park. There are some homestays of which ecolodge Baluran is highly recommended. A nice destination if you want to stay very quietly among the locals. Highly recommended for an authentic travel experience!

Baluran was definitely worth it! We stayed in a house near the entrance and were able to experience the sunset in the park. Beautiful to see all the animals on the savannah. You really felt like you were in Africa. Nice park to spend a few hours in.

1 super duper cool place at the tip of the island of Java..
With nature that is very majestic... cool like in foreign countries (Madagascar)
Hot...but cool with the strong wind.
Prepare a quality tripod because the wind is very strong.
When I go to the location I bring provisions.. (, eat and drink)
This place is a place that is truly unforgettable.
Very Instagrammable.
The animals there are also very friendly and friendly.

We think that Baluran National Park is very interesting, but it is overpriced! The price for local people is 15.000IDR per person (1€), but the price increase excessively to 150.000IDR per person for tourists. Moreover the surroundings are not very clean and well preserved. It is worth if you want to see monkeys, several kind of birds, deers, peacocks and so on. We recommend you to go by your own car or motorbike because it is impossible to do it on foot and we think it is not the best option to hire an “ojek”. It is said that Java is not a safe place to drive but we think that this part of the island is not like the big cities; just have to drive carefully.

Whilst staying near by in Banguwangi we thought we'd visit the national park for the day. When we arrived we were amused that the prices advertised the fact that you had to pay 10x the amount af a local! We thought fair enough and decided to go ahead and buy ticket's. Before buying we pointed at our motorbike a Harley Davidson (very heavy bike) and asked if we would be ok with it on the road. Of course they replied "yes yes bike fine". Off we went, map in hand and feeling excited to explore the park! After about 15 minutes of bone rattling and dodging pot holes we were forced to stop! My partner's hands were in agony from constantly being on the clutch and feared we would drop the bike as we'd already almost lost it one too many time's! So we turned back and made the slow painful jouney back up to the enterance.
Here's the good part; we parked up and headed back to the office to ask for our money back. Took a little while to explain why, eventually we got a translated message on a phone saying "sorry once enter no refund". Both men were there and saw the bike when we bought our ticket's yet let us go a head anyway. They both knew that we couldn't possibly have gotten to the park and back in that time. We paid almost £20 to see nothing but bad road and a few monkey's, so we were not very happy with the outcome! If you want to see monkey's then there are plenty to see along the road.
If you have a bike then prepare for a long 15km bumpy journey to see anything of interest and make sure it's lightweight with good suspention!
Don't get scamed like us.

Thank you Baluran National Park for a waste of our time and money!!
