A must do for all nostalgic, exploration and relaxation lovers! Now they don’t exactly have the VW listed on trip advisor (I think?) but if you open their website they do have it on there.

Starting early from 7am, you’ll get picked up from your accommodation in a classic 70’s open top Volkswagen where you will either head for a buffet breakfast up in the hills or drive through the kintamani region on your way to the volcanic surrounds of Mt. Batur before going to lunch which is included (can only pick one that is included either lunch or breakfast but you may stop for both, just have to pay for yourself at the other). While at Batur, you will get a chance to stroll through the lava rocks from previous eruptions and get a little insight into its history. From there you will then continue onto the hot spring to soak up the warm water before heading back on the road.

We opted for the buffet breakfast, then went to Mt. Batur where we strolled, gained knowledge and got some amazing pictures by both our driver and the local tour guide before jumping into the car to head to the hot springs to soak up.

We then headed off and ended up going to a chocolate factory (not far from our lunch place) advised by our driver where we tasted and grabbed some local made chocolates (heaps to choose from!) before heading to lunch at a local balinese-western fusion restaurant (D’Yoni’s).

From there we went for another stop of the day at a Luwak Coffee Plantation not far from said restaurant where we had 12+ cups of coffee & tea tasting before heading back to our accommodation.

Our driver (Emon? - apologies if it’s spelt wrong :) ) was an expert navigator, easy going and full of local knowledge being the local he is and I couldn’t of asked for a better tour guide and driver. I will be using his services and this company’s tours again!

I did the sunset trek (NB: the sunrise tour is more popular and crowded, but entails a very early start!) tour with Your Bali Trekking Tour company, booked through Pelago.

The experience was wonderful and I highly recommend it. It took us about 90 minutes to climb to the top of the mountain from base camp, which gave us about another 90 minutes at the summit to rest, eat, and watch the sun set in the West. The views were spectacular (in both directions) and it wasn't too crowded - maybe a dozen people or so in total, in small groups of 2-3 excluding the guides.

I'd like to give a special shout out to our wonderful local guide Luna, who took us up the passes with aplomb and good humour. She also speaks multiple languages very well! I'd also like to thank mar driver Yudia for being on time to take me back to the city in the evening.

Note that the trek can be physically demanding in terms of balance and coordination, though not so much in stamina. All equipment is provided (trekking pole, bottled water, headlamps for after dark, snacks), but do take a light packable layer to wear at the top (it gets cold at that altitude, even in warm tropical Bali) and remember to wear comfortable, sturdy walking/hiking shoes - preferably ones that you don't mind getting dirty!

Although there was a minor logistical hiccup with booking, this was sorted out very quickly and efficiently by Pelago Customer Service, so no worries on that front.

The highlight of my trip, and that's really saying something! Thank you.

We had such a great experience. Our driver Garis contacted me one day before the tour and told me when he would pick us up and what we need for the hike. He was very punctual and over the whole day he was very responsible and lovely. It was really important to him that we have a nice day.
Our guide for the hike was Pande. He also did such a great job and always looked if everyone in our group (we were 5 people) was feeling good and if someone needed help. We also had a nice chat on the way down and he told us a lot about Life In Bali. On the top he took pictures of us and told us how we can feed the monkeys (which sometime are on the top to get some food).
We had a great experience with our guide Pande and our driver Garis.
We booked over getyourguide and would definitely recommend it.

After a few days in Kuta we decided to splurge on a luxury villa at Toyo Devasaya, near Mount Batur. While the room looked like the pictures on the website and it was very clean, it was tired. The wooden floors inside need revarnishing, the swim deck had loose planks and protruding nails and the net curtain in the bedroom was stained. At $AU316 a night it was overpriced. We didnt realise when we booked that this is basically a water theme park open to the paying public and the villas are in the grounds and a little off to the side. Our villa had a locked and private garden and a private pool. The public pools are emptied at sunset and scrubbed every night and refill over night but they are not chlorinated so dont swallow the pool water. Breakfast was included and the first morning was a buffet but the flies are a HUGE problem all over the food. The second day there was no buffet and the only choice was to order off the limited breakfast menu, which was eggs fried or poached and toast, tea or coffee. This is a cashless resort and you must put credit on a wrist band which you use to buy meals and drinks. Unused credit is returned at the end of your stay. There is a very limited 7/11 shop about 400 m up the road, so take in everything you need in the way of drinks and snacks, or pay resort prices. The resort is in a very rural area of Bali, which is a lovely change from Kuta etc, but other than the warm pools there isnt anything else to do here so two nights is plenty. The banana boats and other water craft offered weren't yet working and we had no desire to climb Mt Batur. The BRI branded ATM which is 50 m from the resort doesnt accept any Australian cards, so get cash before you go, or use your VISA and pay the OS conversion fee. The resort is in the mountains and in a very lovely rural area so expect narrow steep and winding roads. We hired a great driver we have used previously in Kuta, but the road in and out isnt for the faint hearted passenger. Our driver charged $AU 80 each way for the over 2 hour trip.

Our driver, Garis, picked us up on time in the morning and had such a happy smile and good mood, that really made the start of our day great. He took us to a place that had a good breakfast, and continued to answer any questions we had on the way to get the quad bikes. As soon as we arrived, we were greeted with smiles and introduced to our quad bike director, Putu Angga. He was so nice and was great at explaining how to use the quad bikes. Our whole journey up to the side of the mountain and being able to ride around on the quad bikes was overall the highlight of my trip in Bali. He took some great photos and videos of us at no extra cost, and was constantly smiling and helping us out throughout the journey. The views were amazing and the service we received from both of them was exceptional. Garis, even after driving us around for nearly 4 hours, still had a smile on his face and a great attitude. I definitely recommend this adventure as it was something our whole family enjoyed, and would say was the highlight of our trip to Bali.

My partner, 2 kids and I did the quad bike adventure with Bali Trekking and had such an awesome time. They were quick to process the booking and our driver and tour guide, Kupit, was friendly and informative. After the quad bike ride, he took us to the waterfall which was so fun. My boys swam and had a really good time. Kupit was so patient, telling us to take our time, seeing the boys enjoying themselves. I would definitely book another tour again when I'm back. Thanks guys!!!

We did the Mountain Bike and natural hot springs tour. Our driver Depa was great, was on time for our pick up and very friendly. Whilst the mountain biking was a great concept, the execution was not great. Very little guiding and explanation and the bike size probably wasnt suitable for my partner. Mostly felt like we were trying to keep up with our guide rather than being shown and explained the sights. Little touches like asking for our names and providing basic instruction could have been added. But overall tour was still worth the money, hot springs were very nice and lunch had a great view!

The activity was very nice! The guide (Wayan radin) in Monte Batur was very funny and kind. The driver (Aarya) was very pleasant and careful. We have had a very good day with incredible views of Bali. I recommend this 100%.

Really pleasant day with our driver Aarya.
He picked us up at our homestay then we went for a ride in quad in the black sand in Mount Batur it was beautiful.
Then we swim in the spring water in front of the lake.
We enjoy then a meal included in a really nice restaurant. And we finish with de coffee plantation.
Aarya is really friendly and a safe driver.
We recommend him !
