The temple itself isn't bad. It's a nice place to walk around. However the experience was ruined by the flock of sellers who descend on you immediately you park outside. They'll tell you that you need to buy a sarong, and/or other Balinese gear to enter. Just more than pushy! Total rubbish too, as sarongs, etc.,come included with the entrance ticket. Nice bell tower in the bunyan tree and great views over the countryside. All in all, an experience not worth repeating.

Came here as part of an excursion from our cruise ship. About 8 coaches descended all at once. For some reason our guide insisted that we all had to wear a sarong that was provided by the local women, (shopkeepers?). Our particular guide spent too much time trying to give the group lots of fine detail even though many had stopped listening to him and just wanted to experience the temple by themselves.

We visited Kehen Temple as part of a tour. Our guide was informative and it was really useful to hear him talk about the history of the temples and relevant rituals pertinent to Balinese locals. This temple is much more enjoyable to visit than the other more popular temples as it is not flooded with tourists which allows you to explore peacefully in your own pace.

Compared to Pura Tirta Empul, Pura Kehen was deserted. That was great! It’s a 13th century Balinese Hindu temple with a gorgeous ancient banyan tree. 50k to enter like most other temples.

The Kehen Temple is built on the slope of the hill with some terraces and banyan tree, and is often described as the small mother temple, Pura Besakih.
You have to climb the steep 38 stairs before you reach the beautiful temple with courtyard. On either side of the stairs are protective statues of
wayang figures from the popular Ramayana story.
Through the second courtyard of which a large wall is covered with old Chinese porcelain plates, and stand large and small merus.
Admission fee is 50k

Visited this temple from our hotel in Buahan. Very impressive candi bentar which was very intricately carved. The "antique" plates in the wall look as if they have come from a local cafe and I later learned the originals were damaged. Local guides or "temple guardians/custodians" will try to latch on. There will be also demands ffrom the ticket office for a donation towards restoration which I suspect goes in their back pocket.

Pura Kehen was one of the many temples my group saw within a three day period. Out of all the places visited, this was probably the least tourist-populated. Take from that what you will but I enjoyed my short time there. For starters it's a pretty small temple and you can easily see everything in under 30-minutes. For a Hindu temple built around the 11th century and 1,000+ years old, I find its lasting power incredible. I was blown away by the talent shown with all of the stone carvings.
A few helpful hints: #1 Men and women are required to wear both a sarong and a sash, something you can borrow from a booth just across the street from the bottom of the temple stairs. I simply folded and returned my sarong and sash when I was done, but a girl in my group was asked to pay 2,000 Rupiahs. #2 There are bathroom facilities nearby, just between the vendor stalls that can be used for 2,000 Rupiahs. #3 There are a handful of vendors selling sarongs and the typical souvenir selection. Don't be afraid to negotiate your price and walk away if they won't match it. The worse thing to do is brush them off by saying you'll look at their things later. Once they spot you a second time they will hound you about your "promise" to buy something from them.

I have been many time in the kehen temple, as tour guide and bring peoples to visit, the temple was quiet in the morning time, and take some many pictures, and the temple will be reach from ubud around 35 minutes by car,,

Yes,, you must wear sarong for adults and scarfs for the children under 10th years, and you can hire in the place , but i will bring some,
Maybe you just take around the temple around 30 minutes or less
