Was a long but a beautiful ride from Jimbaran. We did it in a two wheeler and it was an experience in itself. Took us 2 and bit hours to get there.

The lake in itself is a great sight from the top but it was done in 5 mins. Since we did not do the hike of the Mt Batur not sure if it was worth the effort for just 5 mins. We went for the hot springs but it was really dirty and we did not even go in. It’s only worth it if you are hiking.

Amazing lake view surrounding by Mount Agung & Mount Batur. Your should try the local dishes (fish from the lake) taste good. The road a bit narrow and for those renting bike a bit dangerous, its recommended to take supir (taxi).

Lake Batur is a volcanic crater lake in Kintamani.many years ago,i visited penelokan, had dinner there, and watching lake Batur from there, but it is far away from the lake, cant see very clear.last year i visited bali in june.i stayed around kintamani for two nights, the guesthouse i stayed can see the lake more closer, but still in the distance.during the stay,i had a tour to truyan,a vilage located on the eastern shore of Lake.i took a boat to the village, the lake is calm and peaceful.it was a nice experience.after the tour i had a chance to walked around the lake, but not the whole lake,it is hard to do that, cuz the lake is very big.there are some restaurants beside the lake, but i dont have time to sit down and watching the lake.a bit rush,so i hope one day i can stay beside this beautiful lake, exploring the lake and also kintamani area.

I have visited lake batur each year for the last 7 years. I stay in Yans cottages as it is close to the lake and other sites in the area. This is a volcanic area that you can really enjoy for 2-3 days before you use uo the menus and want to move on. The local cottages serve small fish caught out of the lake plus an assortment of Indonesian dishes found on most menus where ever you go.

I normally stay in Bali 5-6 weeks each year trying to see new areas each year but somehow repeating
Lake Batur on every trip.

My main stay is in Lovina Beach at Chonos Cottages that has to have the best staff in Bali.

The hot springs are a waste of time, warm water being pumped into a dirty pool, such a let down, it was totally manufactured and at complete odds to the natural beauty we saw on the drive in.

The local sellers were also much more aggressive and actually got physical with several people at the lunch spots with the views over the volcano, skip these and visit and the little villages on the way to the coffee plantation.

Lake Batur is beautiful but you have to drive down to the Lake to appreciate it. Public transport is difficult in the area so either drive yourself, do a tour or get a driver. It is warm at the Lake when it is cold at Kintamani so make the effort to go the extra 3 kms to the bottom. You can now hire canoes on the Lake, which can be done at Hotel Segara. Or do a tour there as the local guides will try and push you to climb the mountain or sell you fake painting. I did a tour with a company called C.Bali and cycled around the lake and canoed. You don't appreciate how big the Lake is, or how beautiful until you go round it or on it. Canoeing in the middle is magical, its really quiet and you are surrounded by the mountains, only then you can truly appreciate that you are inside a giant volcanic crater. Just be careful if you drive yourself and the guides in the area are very pushy. Make sure you tell them you already have a booking.

The small villages that surround the lake are filled with the most loving people ever. There are some really comforting places to stay but I chose to stay at a place called Baruna Cotteges and the staff there made it feel just like home :) There is easily two days worth of activities here between hiking Mt Batur and exploring the lava fields below it. There is also an old hidden graveyard that if you ask the right local they can take you to, its quite fascinating.

I see a lot of people posting pictures and reviews of what is in fact "Ulan Danu Bretan/Beratan" which is a lake side temple. For prospective travelers please be aware that this temple is in Kintamani and is called "Ulan Danu Batur." They have similar names but are in fact different temples in different locations.

Im not sure I even saw the lake the hawkers were after me. I bought some postcards and they came from everywhere. I kept saying no and they would not stop chasing me. They're wye people selling almost dead puppies with flies all over them hardly breathing from the heat. The hawkers followed me too the car and would not let me shut the door still pushing stuff in my face. I would have bought from all of them if they had of backed off. I was almost having a panic attack by the time I was in the car. My driver didn't help much.

My husband and I went to enjoy the cooler air and the mountain view. While the location has a fantastic panorama of the mountain, lake, and caldera, it is spoiled by an overwhelming number of aggressive touts. They line the viewpoint, chase visitors about, and whine when a purchase isn't made--even if you make it clear you have no interest. If you manage to find a spot around the crater rim without these shills, give them 5 minutes and they will track you down. Garbage everywhere. Nothing pleasant or peaceful here.
