One of my main reasons for visiting the great country of Vietnam was to make the pilgrimage to the military fields in Vung Tau but in particular the Nui Dat area of operations and of course to the battle site of Long Tan. Our tour was arranged thru Australia with the Vung Tau Veterans and Friends Children's Fund. These Ex vets do more than just run the tours they actually support the children's orphanage, but more so have built many houses and help with educational needs for the children in the area. May I add all monies made from the tours( less guide and vehicle expenses) go to the fund. The tour guides, made up of ex vets of various campaigns, provide their services free of charge. Our party of four plus another couple and our tour guide Warren spent the morning firstly visiting an orphanage which is run by buddhists, then onto the Australian task force area of operations. Warren gave an excellent insight to the layout of the task force area and surrounds. Along the way we saw the houses that the Vets fund have built through the support of local builders. A visit through the Long Phouc tunnel systems was quite an eye opener along with the accompanying museum. To be able to pay my respects at the Long Tan Cross is something that I will always treasure. Warren gave a very insightful tour without overstating the role played by the Australians but with the utmost respect to all those who played their parts in the battle and the war. The side tour of the Buddhist Temple and the memorial of Vo Thi Sau made for one of the most memorable days for myself and our party. Many thanks Warren and to all involved in the VTVFCF and my up most respect to those involved in the War and Long Tan battle.

Did this trip with Warren from VVFCF and his local offsider Ha2. Very informative without being too much. Warren being ex Australian military, gave us a great rundown of what happened in this area. Booked this trip from Australia, and any questions I had were answered promptly. They also picked us up from our hotel at back beach in the air conditioned van. Great to know our money for this tour is being used for a worth while cause.

We organised our tour through Belly's Watering Hole in Vung Tau, and aren't we glad we did. We had 2 Australian guides who were very informative and great blokes to boot. We were fortunate enough to have 3 Vietnam Vets on the tour with us who made it extra special. It's an experience I will never forget.
It's only $60 AUD Per person and all money goes back into helping the community to build houses and help struggling families.
Visit VTVFCF.org for more information or head to Belly's and book directly. They need a minimum 4 people to hire the van so if you give them a couple of days notice they will ask around for others to join the tour.

In the early days of Australia's commitment to the war in Vietnam, D Company of the 6th Battalion Royal Australian Regiment was involved in a horrendous battle with Viet Cong and North Vietnamese troops. The odds were staggering: some 108 Australians and what was estimated to be an enemy force of more than 2,000.
Eighteen Australians were killed and 24 wounded, making this the most deadly battle the Australians fought in Vietnam.
But at least 245 enemy were killed.
Before it finished its one-year tour of duty to return to Australia, the battalion erected a cross in the center of the battlefield. It weighted 100 kg and was just under 2 meters tall.
After the fall of Saigon in 1975 local Vietnamese removed the cross and somehow it found its way into a Vietnamese military museum in Bien Hoa.
In 1986 a replica of the cross was placed on the original site, and after much diplomatic maneuvering, in 2017 the Vietnamese Government gifted the original cross to Australia, and it is now on display at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra.
With my son, his wife, and three granddaughters, I visited the cross during a two week tour of Vietnam.
While the Battle of Long Tan was before my own service in Vietnam, it was a moving experience.
(As an aside, I have been told that this Long Tan Cross is the only memorial to an "enemy" in the American Vietnam War allowed by the Vietnamese Government. The only similar thing, is a memorial to the French, whom the Viet Minh soundly thrashed at Dien Bien Phu in 1954, ending the French Vietnam War).

What more can I say? I knew this was goibg to be something special and I'm say glad I was too young to be involved. Walking down the path to the Cross proved to be very emotional, almost in tears by the time we got there. Able to pay our respects to both our Aussie service personnel and those of Vietnam. Absolute respect for these people ❤👍

You may need some assistance finding this spot. Take one of the tours from Vung Tau, a couple of good operators you can find through Matildas, Bellies or Ned Kelly bar.

Being a Veteran, this is one place I visit every time I am in the country. In fact every month in Vung Tau I visit . The one and only Australian memorial on communist soil.

Take a tour with the VVFCF, based at Belly's Bar. The cost is minimal and all funds go to the fund to assist the Children and underpriveledged. The tour is very informative and informal and extremely enjoyable.

Its about 30 klms from Vung Tau and best done with an experienced guide. Someone who knows the area can also point out other points of interest. Its on private property inside a banana plantation and exists only because of the owner's generosity. So treat the area with respect.

I didn't book with anyone. I served here during the Vietnam War and have been back several times, so I know my way around.
However, if you Google "Long Tan Tours" you will find many operators. The best ones operate out of Vung Tau.
If it is a small private tour, expect to pay the guide about USD100.
