If you are spending some time in Hai Phong you will realise one thing - there is nothing interesting to see. I guess that from the tourist point of view the town itself only serves as one of the entry points to get to the Ha Long Bay since it has a railway station, a bus and ferry terminal and a Cat Bi airport.

Anyway if you are going to spend some time in Hai Phong you will probably visit the Tam Bac Lake. This place is a nice way to get away from the busy city streets and to jog or take a walk.

But that's it. Don't expect anything else. The lake is clearly polluted, as of December 2017 there were many dead fish on its surface. Also actually walking around the lake is not as easy as it seems - especially the northeastern part of the lake is undeveloped and there is no sidewalk to walk on. However it's manageable. Plus there are few temple and cafes along the lake which is nice.

So don't expect much else than just a place you can walk around. However in busy and crazy Hai Phong it can be quite welcoming.

At center of the city, easy and comfortable to come. The lake is clean with large walkside area and big trees, therefore ppl could have a peaceful time there, walk, run, have a drink, whatever,... old men use this place for chinese chess playing also. It is especially beautiful at evening when the lights are turned on, no more sunlight and winds flow creating a cool area. I am a local and I love this place.

I guess that many people will realize that there're not many things in Hai Phong to see and not many places to go. My office is located near the lake so everyday I go to work, I'll go on the road on the lake side. The lake is quite nice with many old trees around. It's really suitable to have a walk in the early morning or in the afternoon while it's not too sunny yet. Some people find it intersting to take nice pictures there especially in summer when flamboyants are everywhere. There is an old man who plays instrument there every afternoon. He plays traditional music with his traditional instrument. From Tam Bac lake, it's easy to reach to the opera house or the parks nearby, and the markets.

I decided to walk from my hotel all the way to the airport to explore Hai Phong on route. The lake was lovely and quiet.

The main part of the lake is quite pretty, we found the city of Hai Phong a great travel experience. Did lots of exploring out of the tourist area. Interesting place, well worth a visit

TamBac Lake is a lake in the city area. Easily accessible to food areas. Well worth a visit, and a walk around, but it is quite large, so you’ll need a bit of time to walk around it. Food is easily accessible, about a 15minute walk to the cathedral.
