Two days in Halong Bay

If you are looking for a 1,2 or 3 day cruise in Halong Bay, I would not hesitate to recommend the Orchid Luxury Cruise. Note that they have three different options.. Regular, Trendy, and Luxury. There must be over 100 very small cruise boats floating around Halong Bay, and from our observation, the Orchid boats were as good as any of the others.

We selected one of the two large cabins at the back of the boat with our own private balcony. It was very comfortable and private. There were only 27 passengers in our cruise.

The staff try very hard to make your stay special. In particular, we’d like to thank Smile for looking out for us on the cruise. The food was ok, but some of the local Vietnamese dishes (especially the soups) were amazing.

In spite of the spectacular beauty of Halong Bay, we left with a sense of sadness at the amount of garbage in the water. It seems that a cruise line focused on ESG could do well as something needs to be done. It would have changed our choice, if we knew that the cruise line recognized the problem and was committed to helping with cleanup.

In fact, working in the bay for more than 30 years, one of our top priorities is the marine and island environmental protection activities. We prioritize building internal awareness and implementing specific action plans to help keep the sea and islands clean, such as actively using recycled items, minimizing plastic waste. Take the 3 day 2 night cruise

Was on Orchid Classic 2, loved the itinerary which included kayaking and cycling on Cat Ba island. Classic cruise only has 14 rooms, and is therefore, less crowded. At night, my friends and I had the sun deck/ bar to ourselves.

There was a good variety of delicious food and the service was great. Vi Vi (Vy Vy?) was the waitress assigned to our group the entire cruise and she was always friendly and attentive.

Would also like to commend Rosie who always responded to our queries quickly, and David who was a fantastic tour guide, and gave us an impromptu tai chi session on the beach.

Note:
1. Room 108 is noisy and you can hear the engine any time it’s on, including 4-5am. They changed our room after we highlighted this.
2. The cruise only includes water, all of the drinks are chargeable and are 2-3x the prices on the mainland.
3. The boat has a heated tub - pack your swim wear!

A wonderful experience

Where do we start! From the begin to end Orchid and its staff has offered 5 star service! Our room was wonderful with panaromic views (we stayed on the ground floor). Their service was top notch and the cruise crews remembered every small details of our requirements. Upon arrival I could only eat fish and no other type of protein. So, for every Ala carte meal they prepared separate items for me . The view in general was to die for. We enjoyed the sunset and cruise also organised various fun activities such as cooking classes, squid fishing and happy hours. I specifically recommend Colada who looked after us during meal service, you can see him in one of pictures de shelling the cooked prawns.He and all the crews always paid attention to the smallest details. The cruise also made decorations for special occasions for some of the cruise guests. We had a great time. I highly recommend them.

Beware of cheaters! These guys are bloody tricky.
We booked a 2N/3D cruises in August'22 and paid for the family suites in advance. Right before the trip these guys got back saying "apology, but there is an unexpected fire inspection onboard and we're only able to serve 1Night/2days cruise for you". We're just about to check out from hotel to proceed for a cruise. That entirely ruined our family trip as we had to find another hotel to stay for another night, really crap.
But what a surprise - once we onboarded on a ship and asked the captain about fire inspection, he said that never heard of it and the ship will proceed for another cruise with another tour group next day! LOL!
Eventually our 1 Night/2 days cruise started ard 1pm and ended before noon next day, so all in all we spent less than 24 hrs onboard! Next morning the tour guide announced the breakfast will start early 7am and finish 730am strictly. Hello, people! 30mins for breakfast...if you late - its your problem.
Finally more than a months passed and we're yet to get a refund for one unused night stay. damn shame...

We had an amazing experience on the Orchid Classic Cruise and recommend anyone looking for a relaxing, adventure outside of the main cities! The views and atmosphere in Ha Long Bay are unique and unmatched by anywhere we have been!

Service was exceptional, particularly from Linh, Nhat, and Eric, who made sure we were always taken care of with a huge smile. The cruise manager, Tien, was very informative, friendly, and helpful throughout. Everyone on board went the extra mile to make you feel special.

The food and drinks were both delicious and aesthetically pleasing. The food was focused primarily on local dishes with some western options. The staff were able to accommodate any dietary restrictions with alternates always available if there was an item you could not eat or did not want.

I would recommend doing the 3 day, 2 night cruise to get the full experience as there is a bit of travel time involved from Hanoi. We had a hectic few weeks of travelling in Vietnam so the cruise was a much needed relaxing part of our trip.

The staff had an itinerary that was packed with activities, like a cave tour, biking to a village, swimming and kayaking, and cooking classes but even though there was a lot of options you could opt out but we attended as much as we could as it was nice to just follow their lead and not need to worry about any planning, transportation, or activities ourselves.

It was an experience of a lifetime and we were so glad we included this in our itinerary. The rooms were clean, comfy, and very spacious - they even had a giant soaker tub overlooking the window! Everything was well organized and thought out, and communication was seamless from initial booking, questions before arriving, changing our dates and hotel pickups and all the way through the cruise until our final drop off.

Excellent accommodations, stunning views, closely managed itinerary

Our one night cruise to Ha Long Bay was every bit as beautiful as imagined. The accommodations on the cruise were amazing. The views from our suite out onto the bay were like something out of a postcard. My wife and I were on our honeymoon and the crew surprised us at dinner with a special place setting and even a song when bringing out dessert. The director of the cruise was Minh and he undoubtedly had a lot of personality and runs a tight ship. He worked very hard to make sure all the activities happened as planned and we certainly appreciated the extra steps he took to help us celebrate our honeymoon. We were somewhat disappointed with the cave detour and felt it could have been skipped. We usually love caves but this one is not well preserved or protected. We especially enjoyed kayaking and swimming though we wish we could have done both for a little longer. We agreed with Minh’s recommendation that a 2-night cruise would be better, but we had limited time and 1 night is far better than none!
We enjoyed all of the rooms, views and activities on board and would highly recommend this trip.

Wonderful Experience!

My brother, partner and I came on this cruise! There were mostly families but we enjoyed the activities and especially the staff. The staff was responsive and great to interact with. We’re Vietnamese Americans and still learning Vietnamese so the staff was helpful with us practicing Vietnamese. Lisa was sweet practicing her English with us and helping us with our Vietnamese. We recommend doing the 2N3D cruise because the full day cycling was so much fun with our tour guide David. All of that on top of the gorgeous views was unforgettable. Thank you for a wonderful experience :).

Should do better for the price

Orchid cruises bills itself as being a premium cruise operator in ha long bay. The boats are well maintained and generously sized rooms, and crew are well trained and provide friendly and efficient service. They do let themselves down by cheaping out on basic essentials such as bottled water (not provided foc ) and charging for tea and coffee. Food is good and meals generous. There is a policy of charging $15 usd for corkage if you bring you own drinks. The transfer boats are awful and they try to cram as many people into these from different cruise companies. The cruise itself actually isn’t much of a cruise, after transfer the boat heads off to a location with every other boat and basically sits there for the whole evening. Next morning they are one of the earliest to leave and return to port. It would be worthwhile checking into the activities when you are considering which cruise operator to use in ha long bay, and try to get one that does not make you ‘check out’ at 930 am. The activities do miss some of the highlights of ha long bay and I think they are trying to get patrons to opt for the 2 night cruise. For the price, they should do better.

Best cruise experience - Ha Long Bay

The cruise was one of the best experiences we had in Vietnam. Great way to enjoy the beautiful views of Ha Long Bay. We were on Cruise Orchad No 3 - 669
The staff gave us such a warm welcome. They were helpful, courteous, kept us well informed of the itinerary and made sure we had the best of time throughout. Anything we requested for; Trang, Hoa, Duy and all other staff members gave us the best assistance and service
The rooms are wonderful, clean and give a tremendous view of Ha long. The beautiful sunset and a small musical performance from the cruise staff was the icing on the cake

Our Ha Long Bay cruise on the Orchid Classic was the highlight of our Vietnam trip for our family of 5. The experience had everything we wanted, from opportunities to get out and explore through the cave visit and kayaking in the morning to relaxing and beautiful dinner at sunset and tai chi at sunrise. The boat crew team was excellent, especially Eric who took such great care of us and made us feel right at home. A 10/10 experience for us -- could not recommend more highly to anyone considering!
