About
Museum of Tarot (in short term, or sometime Museum of Tarot and Oracle, or officially Museum of Tarot and Occult), founded in 2016 (will officially open in 2017), is located in Can Tho City, in the south of Vietnam. The museum has three themes: Tarology, Cartomancy and Occult. The museum has a large variety of objects from 15th century to 21th century. The museum is established in an ancient noble hotel, called “the citron house”, under the Vietnamese renaissance style. This house is sacrificed for the museum by an old couple of lawyer, Anh Ngo and Duong Ho in 2016.

This is a totally unique museum set over 3 floors of what appears to be a collectors life time obsession with Tarot and fortune telling.

I found it totally fascinating seeing decks of vintage and historical tarot cards displayed along with literature and historical books on tarot and divination. There are also some playing cards and modern cards on display as well. Cost varies but the minimum walk through without a guide starts at 95,000 VND per person.

This was my first time seeing such a collection and I have travelled a fair bit. So if you are in Can Tho put aside an hour or so and come and enjoy this exhibition. There is a coffee shop on ground level as well.

Many of the Hotels and tourist attractions in Can Tho City, are in the Hai Ba Trung road area, and its surroundings. A good planning before visiting this site, helps to maximise the available time at hand and avoids unnecessary traveling up and down searching for a missed attraction.

We were staying at Kim Too hotel which is also located on Hai Ba Trung road. We planned and followed a circuit on foot as follows.
Kim Too Hotel→ 150 meters→ Ong Temple → 20 meters across the road → Ho Chi Minh Memorial → 90meters → Niem Kiew Wharf → 300meters → Can Tho Night market road → 500 meters→ Phua Huat Temple→ 90 meters across the road → Munirang say temple → 250 meters→ Tarot Museum → 500meters→ Bao Tang Quan Khu 9 (War Museum) → 260meters→ Can Tho Museum→ 230meters→ Kham Lon Can Tho ( Prison Provinciale-Colonial Prison)→ 500meters → Ninh Kieu Pedestrian bridge ( Cau di bo Ben Ninh Kieu) → 400 meters →Kim Too Hotel.

It was following this scheme that we reached the Tarot Museum.
We walked to this museum after a stopover at the Munirang Say temple, 250 meters away. It is nearby and easy to find.

We pressed the bell and the door was opened and the owner introduced us to the place. There are various ticket prices, and we chose the cheapest (100000 VND) where we tour the place on our own. A free bottle water is provided too. It is a two storey setup with hugh collection of artefacts, books, antique timepieces and card of all types from around the world.

We were gifted a deck of Tarot Card at the end of our visit.
We spent about 20 minits here. Since such museums are rare, it's worthy of a visit though it may be a bit overpriced.

I am not particularly well versed in tarot, occult, mysticism, and magic. Visiting this museum I must say was a highlight of our visit to Can Tho. Its a very nice break away from the typical tourist destinations, yet still gives you a nice experience of Vietnam and other nearby regions. The museum is three floors, each containing hundreds, if not thousands of items, these items are unique, rare, limited, and single pieces ranging from early 1500 A.D. (possibly even earlier) to present day. The owner of the museum, Dr. Phillippe Ngo, is very welcoming and gave us a great through walking tour of his museum with a very informative explanation of many of his pieces. Pieces from around the world ranging from early European, Byzantine, early American, and Asian pieces. Of the Asian pieces, I've never seen Indonesian & Vietnamese items like this before and was given a very detailed explanation of how they were used by locals back then. I must also mention, it is not just Tarot Cards and associated items, many religious pieces from the mentioned countries & periods. Admission is free and a donation can be made if you are so inclined to provide for museum operation (totally no pressure from anyone by the way). There is traditional tea service available, small items for sale which also go to museum operations (also no pressure), and tarot readings.

We are traveling through Vietnam from New York City and the association with Tarot was always with scamming gypsy fortune tellers, this informative visit really piqued my interest in its history and washed away its typical associations. I highly highly recommend a visit here. We used Google Maps to find our way here and it was accurate all the way.

We stopped by as we had a day free in Can Tho. So glad we did. Such a great collection of items. The curator is very passionate about them and told us the stories of how he managed to get some of the items on display. I never realised how far back playing cards went and seeing how they changed over the years was pretty cool. To get the best experience book in advance if you can, that being said we were made to feel very welcome during our 2hr tour.

It’s an interesting joint; the prices are quite high but they allowed my child in free. The ground floor smells very strongly of cats, but I guess that kind of suits the place.

The exhibits have some real gems but often the best exhibits are on the upper shelves and hard to see.

Some incredible old books and tarot decks.

They gave us a free mini thoth deck as we left, so I was pretty thrilled with that.

If you're a tarot lover, oracle lover, you know what I mean, you definitely should visit this place if you're in Can Tho. They have lots of mysterious kinds of stuff here, I'm sure there are bunches of things you've never seen or met before. Ask them if you're curious about something, or if you want to know more about that "thing", like what it is, how to use it, why do people use it, etc. I'm pretty sure you'll be surprised a lot!!! I think magic is real though if you believe it or not, it still exists. Come to this museum and ask to know about some history of some interesting pieces of stuff that attract you. Nice place to drink tea and listen about thier stories. Recommend to everyone. I know the owner of this museum, I respect and admire him a lot.

At first, it doesn't really look likes a museum.
But the guide was really passionated and have a very great knowledge about this topic.
It was really interesting even if you don't play too often with cards.
You can learn a lot of things.
The guide can speak French as well.
After floating market, bicycle tour and night market, there is not much to do in Can Tho.
So I recommend, it's not too long and not boring.

It was shown that the museum will be closed at 10pm. However, this museum is closed at 8pm! Misleading info.
