A beautiful small mosque with a hauz close by. It looks good while viewing from the observation tower, near the Ark. walls and roof have beautiful decorations. A must visit, when you go to the Ark.

Beautiful place, it must be included in your itinerary in Bukhara. It is a little outside the old town but can be reached on foot. The wooden pillars are so tall and mesmerizing. Clearly a recommendation!

Opposite the Main Entrance of the Ark Fortress and within the shades of tall trees, we spotted Mosque Bolo-Khauz. We crossed the road and reached a fresh water pond, in front of the mosque. The front elevation, supported by the carved wooden pillars had presented a legendary state of the art view. I categorically observed that many ancient mosques in Uzbekistan had been constructed with similar elevation, first Hazrat Hyser Mosque in Samarkand, second the mosques of Bakhauddin Naqshband Complex and third we visited inside the Ark Fortress. In front of the mosque was a small minaret for 'Azaan'. Its ceiling, the main door and the interior decor were simply marvelous in architecture and lay-out. Yet another religious landmark which couldn't be missed in our trip to Bukhara.

Bolo Hauz is also known as the Children's Pond. It is a short stroll west of the Ark on Afrosiab Street. e reached this area by taking a shared taxi to the Ark. It was the preferred place of worship for the last emir of Bukhara. The minaret to the left of the mosque and the beautifully sculpted aivans and wooden columns were probably the last major architecture projects before the Soviets invaded in 1920. The pond in front of the mosque is a typical design of the many ponds which the city used to have. The minaret was quite short in comparison to the many that we viewed in Uzbekistan, but was decorated in the familiar blue tiles seen on most old buildings in the city.

The minaret had arched openings just below the top, from which speakers protruded which were used to amplify the call to prayer. The beautiful carved woodwork of the columns and honeycomb designs at the top are worth seeing, and we thought the most beautiful area of the mosque. We had seen quite a few mosques with sculpted columns in the city, but this was the best. We particularly enjoyed the star shaped patterns on the ceiling with a mix of gold and green colours. We didn't attempt to enter the mosque.

This mosque is one of the highlights of Bukhara and included in many of the photos of the city. Other nearby attractions include the nearby Shukhov Tower with restaurant beneath and Qo'sh Madrasa a short walk south.

partially renovated, but pretty much in the form as when it was built.
An impressive place, with a small lake next to it, as to see the 2x 20 columns in the reflection.

Its opposite of the Arc. there are 5 prayers a day.

This Mosque is situated directly opposite the Ark Fortress. The most impressive feature of the Mosque are the deeply carved stalactites of it's elegant carved pillars and the painted decoration of the Bolo-Hauz is worthy of note.

For us, the entrance in the Mosque was closed, I don’t know if it is a permanent one or due to the prayers time. However, it was possible to visit the exteriors. Situated within walking distance from the Ark, it keeps well preserved paintings and the original architecture. Nice to take some photos and admire the painting work.

The inside is not very exciting ( the decor is too modern and the cheap Chinese chandelier is horribly wrong) but the outside is beautiful. A lot of intricate details in the woodwork, columns and ceilings. The large pond in front could do with some fresh water... check out also the old water tower that stands next to it, good that they left it there although no longer functional.

What a difference "restored" instead of "reconstructed" makes. This graceful mosque is loving done inside as well as out. Also the keepers of the mosque(?) were very friendly and welcoming for non Muslims to enter if they so desired. Of course with everybody's place of worship, no skin showing, take off your shoes, and women cover your head.
