Pakbara operates the speedboat transfer to Koh Lipe all year round including the off-peak season (May-Oct) whereas Langkawi only operates during the peak season. We decided to make it a roadtrip from Kuala Lumpur all the way to Pakbara via the Wang Kelian/ Satun border. It is quite a pleasant drive as the roads are mostly highway and dual carriageway.
If you are traveling off peak then you will see many friendly touts running up to your car to sell you tickets. We had pre-bought ours online with Bundhaya so we headed straight to their office at the pier. They had a nice waiting area and clean toilet so it was convenient for us to change into "beach mode" and freshen up a bit. We could leave our bags with them which were then tagged and taken by their staff straight to the speedboat. You are expected to check in 45 minutes before the scheduled departure but you could leave it to 15 minutes even. the advantage of checking in earlier is that you are allocated queue cards in lower numbers, which means you get to board the boat earlier allowing you to choose your seat or row if you want to be with your group.
The boat company will also handle your car park service. someone will take you to a secure parking space where you can leave your vehicle at a rate of THB100 per day. i was pleased to see that my car was in a covered space that was manned 24 hours.
I believe all the boat companies charge the same fare and departures are synchronised so the idea is that they compete on service.
Don't worry about finding food here as there are plenty of options in the pier area. But I suggest you dont fill your stomach before the boat ride. The ride was quite choppy and a number of passengers including my son felt seasick. For the return journey upon the advice of our resort staff on Lipe, we opted for another company PloySiam - their boats are bigger and wider so although a little bit slower, the ride was very smooth.
If you take the return boat at 1130am from Lipe then you would arrive into Pakbara around lunch time. if you drove yourself then I would suggest going 5 minutes down from the pier to the beach road where you will see a whole row of restaurants.

This is the key transfer point to Koh Lipe. It takes one and a half hour by car from Hat Yai Int'l Airport. There is a 20 baht entrance fee to the pier no matter you are passengers or not.
You can purchase speed boat ticket at either two operators offices nearby, Baramee and Ploysiam. Single trip is 600 baht. Round trip is 1000 baht. For return trip, you need to confirm seat reservation day before departure.
Speed Boats are licensed for 75 passengers and therefore you need to make reservation once arrived at Hat Yai airport.
Speed Boats heading for Koh Lipe will first stop at Koh Tarutao and Koh Kai for 15 minutes each for sight seeing.
Since Koh Tarutao is your first Island of Entry to the Tarutao National Park, you are bound to purchase Pass at 200 baht per person (Thai Nationals are at 40 baht with seniors of 60 free). Therefore, it will totally take you two and half hours to arrive Koh Lipe whereas return trip will only take one and a half hour.
The boarding system is numbering each passenger and on board accordingly. For luggage, leave it to the designated staffs and they will handle. At the pier as there are several departures at same time, color ribbons are provided for identification.

I've travelled a lot and I've seen a lot of tourist money grabs at work, but this one really shocked me.
We were travelling from Bangkok to Koh Lipe and booked our flights, land transport and boat transport with Air Asia.
Air Asia contracts the boat portion of the trip to 3rd party boat companies, which is fine I guess. When our bus arrived at the place to transfer to the boat, we were told we had to PAY to walk onto the pier to board the boat. I was flabbergasted.
I understand that the pier needs to be paid for, maintained, etc but why don't they just up the amount they charge the boat companies to launch? They will then charge customers a little bit more to compensate and by default the pier costs are covered.
There's nothing on the pier but a bunch of people selling "local" sweets and junk souvenirs, and one small convenience store. It's not an attraction, it's just a place to get onto your boat.

What a disorganised place this is. It is the only place you can travel to and from the southern islands of Thailand, other than via Langkawi in Malaysia. Yet there is no facility to hail a taxi at the port. Luckily we booked one in advance via our hotel. Our friends visiting at the same time were not so lucky. Some managed to pay a local "arranger" to get one at a much inflated price. Others were sent off to a much over crowded bus system for a journey that took almost 3 times as long. Make sure you arrange a taxi from here in advance.

The pier serves commuters to Koh Lipe, during peak time, there are speedboat every hour from here to the Island. It is very clean and well maintained. It has very clean toilet as well for the convenience of passengers. Pakbara has a few hotels around to accommodate passengers who came late while waiting for next day trip. The overall surrounding is clean and calm. The scenery is very beautiful with the beach and Islands background. If you bring your own car, there are a few private parking where you could park your car safely with minimum cost.

The size of the island is just nice, not too big not too small. Tasty food aplenty and we could get halal food, which was awesome. The white sandy beaches and crystal clear water...what a sight! We also liked the fact that that the prices anywhere on the island is pretty standard - from the food, taxi rates, thus reducing the chances of feeling ripped off. My kids enjoyed the fresh mangoes sticky rice and coconut ice-creams...yummy... We also had lot of beers. On arrival, need to be patient during the process of boat transfers and immigration control (passports) . Too many stray dogs, but friendly roaming around. We love, love the colorful corals and different types of fish. Definitely worth a return visit.

I took an early morning speedboat to Koh Lipe & surround island for a 1-day trip only.
If you do not take any package from an agent, you have to pay an entrance fee for its National Park area &
there are several boat service provider sells tickets to few locations around Koh Lipe.
if you arrived at this terminal around 4-5 pm, there is a lack of public transportation for you to move to another location. be prepared for any transfer method.
The toilet is clean. Signage was clear.

Hi, Thanks for the information you shared. I just want to ask if it's safe to leave the car in the Pier's parking area overnight or 2nights?
