A Lovely Little Homage
Jun 2021 • Couples
A lovely little homage to the story of the bridge built under Japanese orders during World War 2 to being rebuilt for the convenience of Pai.

Boring for some but fascinating for history buffs
Mar 2021
The materials for the present bridge came from the old Narawat bridge in Chiang Mai in 1973 after an earlier bridge was destroyed by floods. It is easy to spot the two sections - from the Pai end a British military Bailey bridge leading to a section from the USA.
In WW2 the Japanese used forced labour from the surrounding villages to construct a strong wooden bridge from which to attack British held Burma. On their defeat they burned down the bridge and the villagers constructed another wooden bridge which was swept away by floods in 1973 to be replaced by the metal one seen today. Now there is a new masonery bridge. On the Pai side the historical descriptions are only in Thai but plaques on the Chiang Mai end are in English.
It is nice to see that trouble has been taken to preserve this relic of WW2 and shows its importance to the present day villagers.

An old metal bridge. Nothing much to see. Just an old short bridge during WW2. can stop by and have a look not more than 5 mins.

Worth a look just to say I've seen it 7. No obvious historic value. Nothing more I can say. Please accept this honest appraisal even if it doesn't yet meet the 100 required letters

Old Historical Bridge near Pai
Sep 2020
It was a scenic place on the river to stop for a short break. The bridge is located just outside of the village of Pai and is an old historical iron bridge from WWII.

Just a bridge
Feb 2020 • Couples
No need to visit this non-descript bridge unless you’re heading in this direction. The bridge is just there, not used at all for regular traffic or pedestrians.

It’s just like other normal bridge, I didnt see any special thing here. Just stop by, took some photos, and go.
Anyways, the view around was nice, better to relax and hear a good song.

Stop if passing by.

We visited this whilst out and about. Not many people there whilst we were there ( late morning). Got off scooter and had a dander along, took a few photo’s, as you do and moved on. Not worth going out to view as a one of but if you are passing, stop and have a look.

A little bit of history
Feb 2020 • Friends
A nice stop on the way to Pai Canyon. We received conflicting information as to whether it's the original bridge built by the Japanese in 1942 to get to Myanmar/Burma OR the Japanese destroyed the original bridge and the current bridge was transported from Chiang Mai. If anyone knows for sure I'm sure everyone would be interested. Worth a look and it's free.

History lessons come alive

So glad there was a write-up of this bridge. It helps to understand the location better. Sadly, some parts of the posters need to be changed as the colors have faded and photos quite obsured due to age. Well-worth a visit provided you read the historical narrative first.
