Me and my partner decided to come and do a month of training at Charnchai to try and get in shape after months of travelling, as complete beginners to Muay Thai, and I cannot recommend this gym enough! As someone who is generally pretty anxious around groups I was really unsure how I would find the experience at first but everyone here, from the trainers to the other people training are the friendliest folks you'll meet. We always felt safe and welcome, and got to train with other folks who were beginners as well as fighters there who we would also go to watch fight in Chiang Mai and support as a group. Every person seems to agree, Charnchai is like a family. I can't wait to go back some day, we miss the folks here so much already đź’–

We wanted to say a massive thank you to talented team at Charn Chai. We couldn’t recommend them enough!
My husband and I have been travelling for 4 months, and were missing having a bit of structure and fitness in our lives. Training at a Thai Muay Thai gym for a few weeks seemed like a great way to incorporate some exercise and routine into our travels. Reading reviews of Charn Chai, and from speaking to the gym over email, we understood that their programme would be a tough but fun one one, and also felt confident that it would be great place to go as complete beginners in Muay Thai.
I am so happy to say that the experience was all that it promised to be and more. The training sessions are gruelling and hard work, but are also the most fun and fast paced workouts I have ever done; and I always ended them with a smile on my face. They also proved to be a great way to meet knew people and even make friends.
It is an amazing place to go as a beginner - every session includes a substantial amount of one on one time with a trainer. The trainers are amazing teachers and genuinely want to help you improve your Muay Thai skills. Their effort and enthusiasm remains high, whether they are working with a pro fighter or a beginner who has come in for a drop in, stand alone session.
As a bonus to all of the above, this amazing gym is located in the beautiful and tranquil village of Pai. The perfect location to recover and relax after pushing yourself during training.
The last 4 weeks have definitely been the best part of my 4 months away. So if you are thinking about coming to Charn Chai - do it!

Incredible overall experience! Started as a complete beginner, and after a week of 2 sessions per day, felt much more comfortable with the fighting style. Very social gym too, easy to meet people and learn with great teachers.

I was only here for a week, but have trained with Me Bee previously. Organised the trip through Steve via the website. Excellent communication at all times, and we were well prepared for our sessions. I’m an older woman, but never felt that that was any sort of hindrance, the trainers were all encouraging and helped me work on what needed work. There’s a great, happy vibe at the gym and I appreciated having such a high standard of instruction. If you’re looking for authentic Muay Thai, come here. Beginners, professional fighters, there’s enough space and trainers to cater for everyone. They’ll find you a fight too, if that’s your aim. Go for it!

Had an amazing time here! Went for 1.5 weeks of training as a beginner in Muay Thai. From the beginning they take a lot of time to teach you the techniques and basics. Lessons were always intensive but so fun. Teachers and staff is very nice and they are very encouraging. It is also a very social place and so easy to meet people.
I arranged the trip via Steven, via email and the contact was very easy.
Would really recommend this gym and I am definitely coming back in the future!

I am a beginner and trained for one month. I wish I were still there! I learned so much. Everyone was kind and attentive. The atmosphere was supportive and welcoming. The sessions were challenging and a perfect mixture of technique and fitness. I especially enjoyed meeting other people that were training. I think it has spoiled me for other gyms because I keep thinking of how much I miss being at Charn Chai. The kicks at the end and the runs to the Buddah were hard but rewarding. Thanks so much to everyone that helped me while I was there!

I can’t recommend Charn Chai Muay Thai gym enough! I loved every single one of the trainers, it felt like a little family, they were super knowledgeable, patient and friendly! I already miss all of them, and would go back in a heartbeat. I was only supposed to stay 3 days in Pai but I ended up staying 3 weeks as I loved the Muay Thai so much! It really helped me to get my fitness back after several months travelling with little time working out. I had never done Muay Thai before so it’s great for beginners like myself but they also have lots of people who have years of experience so it’s brilliant for all levels. If your in Pai I highly recommend you give it a go!

100% coming back to Charn Chai gym and for longer.
If your a beginner, intermediate or pro, this is the best place to go. Charn chai has an awesome atmosphere and vibe. All staff and trainers are so welcoming and friendly and always willing to help out in any way. The Muay Thai training is hard and sweaty one, but also enjoyable and fun all at the same time. If your looking to keep fit on your holiday while I’m Pai, then Charn chai is the place to do it! Absolute legends thanks for the week!!!

I have visited Charnchai each year since 2017. I initially came to visit my grandson who also also trains here, thinking I would only be watching, but Mr Bee encouraged me to train ! I am 79 years old, and I love it. The trainers are very respectful and push me just right. I feel part of the family now and will be back again next year.

One bad trainer ruined the whole experience for me. I really tried my best to learn but when it came down to hitting the pads everything went down hill from there. It was my first day ever learning a marital art, I had no experience. The trainer expected me to throw proper punches/kicks/elbows/knees in a 30 minute introductory lesson. If I didn't do it perfect he would scold me, curse and hit me in frustration. The negativity he was displaying was not appreciated and it discouraged me to continue the training. The session only lasted 1 hour 1/2, I paid for 2 hours but he quit on me to train someone else and told me to go home early while the rest of the class continued. I was angry and confused at the whole situation but I'll give Muay Thai another shot just not here ever again. The other gym in pai looks more promising, its less crowded and more hands on.

Hello, I am coming to Pai May 14th so a few days but I will only be there for 4/5 days and I know you only do a deal for one week or more. Is there any kind of deal you could do me for 5 full days of training including meals? Thanks
Written May 10, 2017
Hello,
Thanks for your message about training with our team for 4/5 days from 14th May. We don't usually offer discount on the price of training and meals but please drop by the gym when you arrive to meet the team and discuss the possibility of making a deal if your time in Pai is limited. If you can extend your time a little and do a full week then the price is 3,000 baht for training and meals (2 group sessions and 2 meals a day for 6 days).
Have a safe trip, we look forward to hearing from you/meeting you soon.
Cheers

Hi I will be in Pai for 1 week in January. Have never done a fitness class ever.
Would it be ok to attend a Muay Thai class ?
Written November 28, 2016
Hello,
Thank you for your message about training at Charnchai Muay Thai. My team and I have many years of experience as trainers and fighters and would like for you to join us for training while you are visiting Pai in Jan 2017.
It's not essential to register for group training in advance as we have a large team of trainers. Just come to the gym 10 minutes before the start of the session (7:50am for the morning session or 2:50pm for the afternoon session) to meet the team and start warming up.
We train twice a day (8am-10am and 3pm-5pm) from Monday to Saturday, each session is 2 hours.
We welcome students with all levels of fitness and experience from beginners to advanced fighters. It's certainly not a problem if you aren't in peak fitness when you join us, we encouraged everyone to give it a go. Beginners are taught technique separately from the intermediate students so the level of training is tailored according to students' level of experience, there's lots of attention to detail and every student gets plenty of 1:1 time with the trainers throughout the sessions.
The group training programme covers all aspects of muay thai and the team focuses on teaching technique thoroughly as well as improving cardio fitness and strength and conditioning.
The daily training schedule covers all of the following: basic to advanced technique instruction, shadow boxing, pad rounds with trainers (3 to 5x 3 minute rounds), bag work, circuit training, clinching (afternoons) and sparring (every Wednesday and Saturday) and we finish each session with 50 kicks on the bag (left and right leg), 100 knees and a group abdominal/core strength workout. The team will track your progress and introduce more advanced techniques as you develop to ensure you get the most out of your time with us.
The price for group training is 300 baht for a half day (single session) or 500 baht for a full day (training am and pm sessions on the same day).
Payment for training is made at the end of the session in cash (Thai baht).
We provide all the equipment you need for training including hand wraps, gloves and shin pads. We also have mouth guards, ankle supports, hand wraps, boxing gloves and Charnchai shorts and t-shirts available to buy at the camp. You will need to bring running shoes, comfortable clothes for training and a towel.
The gym is just a 10 minute walk from the centre of town, approximately 300 metres past Pai hospital on the left hand side if the road.
We hope this information is helpful. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any other questions. We look forward to hearing from you/meeting you soon.
Best wishes,
Bee

Hi, my daughter (24 yrs old) is planning to attend thai box training at this school next March for 2 months - she'll be travelling from Canada - do you have any tips for a single women travelling alone to such a remote place in Thailand? Any tips and suggestions would be welcome about the dos and don'ts...Many thanks!

Pai is a small town and is less scary as big cities as Bangkok. There will probably be more people who're doing a course or a few weeks training, so she'll probably end up being with a little group every day! I loved training there and the people organised barbeques etc. Easy to meet people!

what is the easiest way to get there from Bangkok?
Written January 23, 2015
You can travel from BKK to Chiang Mai by bus or catch the night train from Hualamphong station or fly from Don Muang/Suvarnabhumi airport to Chiang Mai airport. Once you are in Chiang Mai you will need to take a minibus from the main bus station (Arcade bus station) to Pai. MInibus services run every hour from 7:30am to 5:30pm throughout the week and tickets cost 150 baht.
