Wat Don Wai Floating Market is a tourist destination for shopping for local souvenirs, food, beverages, water tourism. The surrounding atmosphere is shady. There are merchants who set up shops on both sides of the road. There are many boats selling items. Don Wai Market has a wide variety of food to surprise people who like to taste it. Both savory and sweet dishes that are not only a lot, but also delicious in every restaurant. and is a traditional food

the main highlight of this market is to buy some food from various stalls- pad thai, duck palo, iced coffee/local beers, yum nam sote (sticky rice balls with salad), mataba roti, etc. then get your boat tickets (thb 60) for a 1.5 hr cruise and temple visit. Eat your food at your private table on the boat and relax while you enjoy the scenery of the countryside floating by you. This market is totally non-touristy and you are not very far from bangkok in Nahkon Pathom. See the way into the past by watching locals fishing and paddling their boats.

My Thai friend who is a major foodie took me to this market. It took over an hour by car from Bangkok but it was totally worth the trip. I bought a lot of spices, including chilis, teas, shrimp paste. It was nice to go to a market not crammed with cheap souvenir type things geared for tourists. Definitely recommend to people who appreciate food, and a more authentic experience.

Don Wai Market isn't on any tourist map and really hard to get to know this market unless you have a Thai friend or you are just reading the reviews on Tripadvisor.. I myself didn't know about this hidden treasurer. Though not far from Bangkok, but being here feels as if you are in real Thailand, getting to Don Wai Market is easily accessible by boats. You can get a boat at Wat Rai Khing ( Rai Khing Temple) return ticket would cast you around 40 baht. you would have an hour or so to spend at the Market. There are food stalls, souvenir shops, local products, deep fried fish, stewed ducks, local desserts... Recommended if you want to see and eat real Thai culture and foods.

If you are looking for a floating market, you might be disappointed ! Its a pleasant day trip out being not too far out of Bangkok city. On the way , we passed an elephant and crocodile farm, orchids farms, vegetable and fruit orchards and padi fields. Some road works upgrade is currently on going, so expect some traffic clogs from the road entrance to Don Wei Market which was 5 KM inland to the river

We drove there and there were reasonable road signs which could do with some improvements other than Thai language. We started our journey from Sukhumvit on Sunday and the traffic was non existence but still took us nearly an hour and a half on the wet and slippery road.

Don Wei is basically a covered fresh market along the river selling both fresh produce, cooked food, local desserts and a bit of JJ weekend flea market and restaurants thrown in. There is even a boat cruise at the cost of 80 Baht which you can hop on going up and down the river. It was really packed with crowds from both locals and tourist, so starting early could be a good choice. Some local produce were really fresh and reasonable while there were instances of goods being pricey too. Local stewed duck seemed to be a popular on the menu for eating there or take away. We ate at the floating restaurant which there are a few to choose from and the prices were reasonable. Service was efficient, fast and plenty of pictures to help you if you don't read the lingo. No beer was available while we were there as Buddhist Lent just started but that didn't dampen our appetite.

Comfort room facilities were adequate and above average. Plenty of car park facilities covered and uncovered. Not recommended for wheelchairs and infant trolleys will be a challenge. Understand the market is open seven days a week. Worth while to venture if you are looking for an outing but will not specially go there for shopping or unless you are in the vicinity of Nakhon Pathom. Personally most of the food at Don Wei are available in Bangkok unless its freshness you are seeking. Understand there are some tourist sights to go like Chedi Nakhon Pathom, Puttamonton Standing Buddha Park which are not to far.

If you want to wander around a market & see lots of interesting food and try a few things, then this is the place. So much to see, so much to eat & lots of new things to try. I thought this place was fantastic. If you can, try the Mango Plum, as shown in my photo. Looks exactly like a plum, tastes exactly like a mango.
Maybe that's why they call it Mango Plum??

came in lazy afternoon and did not had much expectations - I was wrong.
The market is big and very unique with many food items that are long
disappeared from Bangkok streets.
Authantic and special.... many restaurants on the river side - but we choose
to eat out of the market at Aoywaan place

This market is located along the river with both entrances at the Temple. Excellent place to stroll with special one for shopping, leisure and laughs.

There are plenty of sampling areas and rather inexpensive restaurants on the river. This is not a floating market as to where you are riding, seated, in boats. Rather, the majority of the market is floating and non-floating along the river.

Notes:
1) Not a place for stroller children
2) Not advised for extremely tall
3) Prices for the same product vary
4) Bartering is advised.

Authentic experience of a real Thai market. Restaurants for food, things to buy and a temple nearby. Excellent food!
