On an overnight visit to Lampang from Chiang Mai, the Dhanabadee seemed like just the type of offbeat attraction I often favor.

The actual museum visit, with a guide, was great on it's own. The story of the factory is fascinating, to say the least, and while obviously most items are now produced elsewhere, the original location is still a working factory.

It was also interesting to follow the different directions the factory has taken over the years in order to adapt to a changing marketplace.

And then, the factory shop! With a mix of full-price items and heavily discounted factory seconds, the shop offers irresistible shopping opportunities. And that's how I returned to Chiang Mai with a trunk full of ceramics.

The museum is a definite must should you find yourself in Lampang, but it's also well worth a side trip from Chiang Mai just to visit the museum and shop for some great ceramics.

This ceramic museum provides knowledge about origin of pottery and ceramic industries in this town from past to present. It's interesting about exhibition/story of paintings on the pottery and ; funniest thing, DIY your only one ceramic in the world, yhere is also souvenir shop for keeping my memory there.

This is a demonstration museum, not really a history museum. This is not the place to visit for ancient ceramics, but if you want to see how ceramics are actually made, this is a very good place. I went mainly for the gift shop. Lots of discounted wares. Could not go home without buying at least a little something.

The most interesting thing at this museum was the demonstrations of each step in the process of producing the ceramic wares. And their outlet store had lots of goodies at greatly reduced prices. Don't miss it!

I wasn't that keen to visit the Ceramic Museum as I didn't want to wander around looking at bowls behind glass display cases. The museum was nothing like this at all, actually to call it a museum is a misnomer as it is more of a working and living ceramic factory. We had a young man guide us around at no charge he spoke good English and at each point of interest we would receive a demonstration of some facet of the production of ceramics. It was well done and interesting. The experience is somewhat of an eyeopener and it is amazing the work that goes into creating a book that sells for a few baht. There is a gift shop attached to the museum and some great bargains are to be had there. All in all a worthwhile visit.

Make sure you don't arrive at lunch time because the tours are stopped while the staff have lunch. Excellent tour. They have one every hour, but since it was just my husband and I they just gave us a private tour. It was well presented, informative and fun. The guide was really knowledgable, and the family did a great job preserving all of grandpa's items. You really get a feel for how hard it is to make one bowl. Then you get to their gift shop where this are discounted imperfect ceramics, and very expensive chicken bowls. We bought one B grade for 100 baht just for fun, but the A grade was 200! I did get a bunch of other ceramics for cheaper.

Stopped here to visit the factory and showroom during the annual Lampang Ceramics Festival. It was well worth the side trip. The adult ticket cost was 100 baht which was credited toward any purchase over 1000 baht in the showroom. I was led through the museum and factory by one of the English speaking guides and at each station of the factory I was able to see and watch the many processes used to create their pottery. The showroom also has an outlet where seconds are sold at reduced rates. All of their pottery is very reasonably priced.
