From one scared of big fish, claustrophobic experiences and big waves to deciding to dive again for a second time on the first day? Could only have happened with Rayan at Davy Jones Locker Diving!
DJL shout me in their shop the night before, with the announcement 'hey you want to try diving?!'. Me, enthusiastic about almost every new thing, went in and said 'maybe but I'm also scared to try it'. They comforted me immediately, told me what exactly would happen and they even had a Belgian instructor, just one phone call away.
I went in the next day, just in time after my big fat breakfast and I met up with Rayan straight away. After a thorough (is that how you write it?) explanation, very at ease, very chill and calm and a little information and test online, I was ready to go.
We took a boat on a bright and sunny day off to where the first diving spot would be. Rayan prepared everything and didn't have to worry about a thing. The jumping in the water was in fact the scariest part of all. Diving down with the rope, only to focus on breathing and being amazed by the colorful fish, sealife and corals, it was bloody amazing. I didn't know something so calming, soothing and relaxing existed underneath the surface.
I did the three prescripted exercises, only to have a little fail with the last one which was actually not bad at all. The fact that Rayan stayed so calm and guided me trough every single part, made it easy to forget and complete.
After what felt like only minutes, but was in fact 38 minutes we went back up. My first question was: Are we going again?!
It was not part of the plan I bought, but it made me so happy and ecstatic that I decided to dive back down again asap.
This whole review is way longer than expected, such as was my diving, but I hope my enthusiasm gives you the envie and want to try it because of all I did in Thailand, diving with Davy Jones Locker is what I would recommend the most. It's better than any Pad Thai or Pad see-ew. Trust me.

I’m so glad I went with DJL. It feels like you’re part of a family when you’re with them. I completed my open water cert with Crystal and she was brilliant, ensuring that when you’re qualified you feel comfortable and confident diving. Would thoroughly recommend 👍🏼

My last dive was in 2015 so I signed up for a reactivate class. Had a thorough theoretical recap and a walkthrough of how to assemble the scuba gear after which two dives are planned.
Great instructions of which exercises we needed to conduct which were completed in a few minutes after which the dive turned into a recreational dive at a great site. The next dive was purely recreational, at another great (but close) site.
Signed up for another two recreational dives the next day (diving at Koh Tao is like diving in an aquarium so it was hard to resist).
Had a thoroughly enjoyable experience much thanks to the awesome divemaster Luna who was leading both the reactivate and the recreational dives -- my warmest thanks!

Excellent experience. We were 7 people.
We contract the course with them from Spain. They sent us the links to the online material so we could study the subject before arriving in Thailand. We pay for part of the course and the rest we pay for once in Thailand.
They'd pick us up from the hotel and drop us off there.
They threw a party to which we were invited and treated as part of the family.
We did the Open Dive Water.
First day in the pool and then in Ao Leuk, Tanote Bay, Light House and Hin Wong Bay.
They have teachers in Spanish, Italian, English,...
Memories for Julia, Fede and the whole team.

Great experience my “discovery dive” fully guided by Ryane and Luna made it an unforgettable first introduction to the underwater world of Koh Tao. The dive club also has a great vibe! A must do if you want to get to know nature underwater

Most unfriendly staff ever. We went diving on very bad conditions. Rough waves, very strong current and no visibility. The boat's line snapped off the buoy line, and they didn't have a guideline set up. One member especially was rude and not helpful at all. I did my IDC with this shop when they were at Sairee Beach and they treated me as though I was a pariah, probably because I am a middle-aged white man from America. Not recommended if you want to have a great day of diving or be around friendly people.
I went with another dive shop on the island and had the time of my life. I tipped the staff well.

DJL not only has the coolest name on the island but it quite possibly has the coolest instructors as well. Stephen Cullen, dive instructor extraordinaire by day and master DJ by night, has one of the best attitudes you could ever ask for in a person - he truly made the experience fantastic. DJL goes above and beyond to make diving fun and safe while providing a close knit atmosphere that makes you feel part of their family. Couldn't ask for a better dive experience or trip to Koh Tao for that matter.

I was here on Koh Tao just for this Padi course. It was booked through STA Travel. But I am veeerry happy with the experience and the staff. We had Steve as like the theory part, but Steve even made theory fun. He made jokes all the time and were very funny. We had Christian for our main instructor, he was great. He was really chill and easy to understand. I didn’t really have to ask what he meant because he explained everything very easily understandable.

Couldn't compete my dives after all the 'academic and pool training'. Failed dive 1 as I couldn't equalise. Had to resurface without a word from the instructor and was 'taken care' of by the trainee dive master who was upset he couldn't even log his dive because of me, which he told his mate. Not great to hear at all. The instructor himself didn't even say a word on the boat to me, just ignored myself for the remainder of the journey instead of having some sort of compassion for someone that was upset about not being able to complete the dive.
After visiting the doctors they ruled me out to dive due to chance of going deaf. After hearing this I informed DJL who couldn't have cared less. After asking if there was any chance of a refund I was awarded 1000 baht originally. 10% of the ogirinal cost of the course. I did not do the remainder of the 3 dives so I was confused as to where the cost of the course was. The dives themselves supposedly cost 500. Apparently the academic sides cost 800 a piece and the electronic PADI manual cost 2500. What use is a manual when I can't dive? And how could a dive, that involves the use of a boat and diving equipment for the day, cost less than the academic side, where we watched videos for 6 hours and filled forms?
After telling the instructor I was not happy I spoke to a group of 4 staff members by myself and was given an additional 500 baht. Still a complete joke when I've missed out the main part of the course. I went to DJL on recommendation from a friend and believed I would be taken care of. How wrong I could be. My friends who also did the course felt they were also pestered to buy diving equipment from DJL by the instructor, which they had no need of. All in all not a pleasant experience at all but certainly a costly one.

after completing the divemaster course what are the job opportunities? and what salary should expect
Written January 25, 2020
Well this really depends of you, off the seasone and where you are working

hi.. May I know all those reviews is it from koh tao DJL diving center?
how about Koh Lipe site?
Written March 15, 2016
All this is for DJL Koh Tao,
I have been to the Koh Lipe site and it is very nice. A different vibe to Koh Tao, much more laid back island but still plenty to do.
The diving is also very different. There are more currents in Koh Lipe, so there are some amazing drift dives. The shore diving is awesome and there are so many beautiful soft corals, sea fans, sponges and colour! Also a huge variety of interesting fish and inverts too!

Has anyone been through the divemasyer internship with DJL? How was it? Was it everything you expected?
Written May 17, 2015
Actually, let me elaborate why it os a good place to do your internship, instead of just saying it is a great place to do it.
They teach instructor courses, and they have a number of (platinum) PADI Course Directors on staff who actively take part in the Divemaster Program. If you want to know about PADI, they are the people to speak to)
They have a full and well established Tec Department so if you would like to learn decompression diving, cave diving or equipment maintenance, you can.
It is a very busy dive school, which means you can easily join in with extra assists to get a wide range of experience.
Large crew of Divemaster interns which means they can arrange special trips to sites where most other schools rarely go (sail rock, Samran, some cool wrecks etc.) It also means there is always someone to party with if you want to go out, and always people looking for a quiet night in. You will never be stuck on your own
Awesome restaurant/bar to hang in when you are not diving. Many other schools don't have such a place where everyone can pass the non diving days playing cards or watching movies etc
Those are just some reasons why i loved it there!
If you have any questions please feel free to message me!
