A tough enough climb to the viewpoint with some narrow tracks (beware of snakes) which takes approx 1hr. Keep concentration as you could possibly take wrong track and get lost. The view however is quite possibly the best in all of our travels through Thailand. Well worth it.

Walked to the top with my two of my sons (6 and 14). Took about 2 hours up (quite slow pace with many stops for snacks). Great view on top. Bring a lot of water (we drank about 4.5 liters) and snacks. The hike was a bit challenging for my 6 year, but he made it. The way down took about 1 hour and was much easier.

Like many others have said, get to the base of the hike at "Khao Ra Bungalows" (sometimes this doesnt come up on google maps but it is a 2 minute walk north of "Safari Boat Valley" if you google map that instead). Once you arrive, the beginning of the hike will be on more so of a wide dirt path. As you make your way up another 30 minutes or so this path will start taking you into the jungle on a much more narrow path. Be careful of your footing as you will be stepping on rocks and branches. After another 45 minutes or so depending on your fitness level you should reach the top. There are two viewpoints - one looking north and another south.
On you way down just watch your step and hold on to trees along the way. Definitely bring good shoes, plenty of water, snacks and bugspray.

We do the Khao Ra every year since 5 years. It is always impressive when you get at the top. I recommend to do the trek in the morning because after it'll be too hot. Every year we see people walking up with flip flops which are not really confortable for this kind of activity. It took about 1h to reach the top for us, if you are not sportive, maybe 1h30, more or less. The path is well indicated don't worry you won't be lost. Make sure to bring bottles of water, it's Thailand, weather can be really hot. We took 3 bottles each. Try to do it when the weather is good, last year it was raining and very slippery. One more point, nature is so peaceful and beautiful so please don't throw anything. We saw bottles, cans, cigarettes, an other plastic things on the top and on the path, tried to pick up some to put it in the garbage, but much better if we don't have to do this. Respect the nature and enjoy your trek :)

Start this walk early in the morning before it gets to hot.
Bring water and maybe some bananas.
It takes around 2 hours on the way upp and 1,5 hours ond the way down.
The scenery IF its good weather makes it worth the climbong.
I have a couple of kilos in overweigth and i thought it was tough.
There is a bungalow resort in the beginnig of the trip called Khao Ra bungalow there yoy can eat and drink after.

We climbed Khao Ra in August 2015. Finding the route to the start of the trail was difficult. Despite reading many reviews on TripAdvisor and checking Google Maps, we spent a good 45 mins on the Chaloklum to Thongsala road looking for the signboard that read Khao Ra Bungalows. We also asked many people along the way, but they all told us to go in different directions. Finally we passed the small signboard saying Khao Ra Bungalows. Going from Chaloklum to Thongsala, this appears on the left about 500m down the road from Wat Pha Saa Tham. Turn into the road and follow it till you reach the Khao Ra water filtering facility. The place is surrounded by Rambutan trees and at the end of the road you can see another signboard that reads Khao Ra Bungalows.
We parked our moped here and trekked up the slope. We carried about 3 litres of water, some fruit and chocolate with us. The trek was a great experience. We reached the top in about an hour and 15 mins or so and took about 45 mins to get back down.
Need to wear strong shoes, carry enough water, basic first aid kit plus something to eat along the way. We were in reasonably good physical shape and we coulddo the climb. The toughest bits are really close to the top, where the climb gets steep.
Good activity to do if you spend some days at Ko Phangan. Highly recommended.

Climbed it in May during the midday heat. It took me 1:30 hours. Most of the way is through jungles so you don't feel the sun. But the humidity will soak every drop from your body, be sure to bring water with you. Wear good shoes on you, it's not an easy trail. There is alot of mosquitos in the jungle, but not at the top. The view is good, but it's not 360 degrees and there are better viewpoints on the island. Climb it for sport and the feeling of conquering the top of the island.
If you want to climb Khao Ra, first head to Phaeng waterfalls. When you exit the main road, continue straight, leaving Phaeng Waterfalls from your right. Drive until you see Khao Ra Bungalows sign - head there. Leave your motorbike at Khao Ra Bungalows and from there walk in the direction if the signs. There will be several signs in the beginning until you hit a narrow trail that will lead you through the jungle to the top. Easy navigation.
Good Luck!

We got off to an early start around 8am, took around 90 mins to the top and an hour back. Ground was uneven and very steep in places. As others have mentioned pack lots of water (its humid) and perhaps a snack for the top. Didn't see any wildlife with the exception of a few butterflies, a squirrel and a hawk or eagle at the top!

A great walk / climb if you are young or fit. You need two hours up and just less down, also two bananas for energy and 600 ml water. The earlier the better, we started at 6:10 and the day was overcast. Be sure to wear trainers a hat isn’t needed you in shade 85% of the time. Not a single item of plastic on the entire climb and the pathway is sign posted. If you are 60+ do not attempt if you have any hip or knee issues, the way down can be “jarring” and do not attempt in monsoon season or if it’s raining.

Did the hike up to the top (where they had a sign proclaiming this was the highest point in Ko Phangan...635m above sea level...wow) during a run. Thus, did not had the chance to take a photo, but I think there's a lot of the photos here and in Instagram lol
Think it's achievable by all...just take it slow and easy. Must really wear good shoes, as the path down is quite daunting too lol...Did saw a view of some waterfall on way down, but did not have the time lol
