I couldn't have hoped for a better place to do my Open Water certifikat.
Chan, the owner, and his wife are both sweethearts and you immediately feel welcomed and taken care of. It's an extremely professional but also personal experience. I had the pleasure of having Nicolas as my dive instructor and he was absolutely amazing. Professionel and fun to learn from. My nervousness quickly went away with him as my guide.

I can 100% recommend Lotus whether you're new or experienced.

I did a half day trip to Sail Rock with two dives. The trip was well organized with food and drinks. The dive side was extremely cool though a bit crowded. My guide was Nicolas, he talked me through everything, prepared the equipment and gave me good advised! I really enjoyed the trip and felt really save at the same time! I can only recommend diving at Lotus Diving!:)

I've been diving with Lotus twice now, and I've always had a great time.
The dives at Sailrock are spectacular: best dive site on the east coast; the boat is fast and comfy, the food great, the staff friendly and professional. They made me feel part of the family, I ended up going out with the staff and making a lot of new friends.
Definitely the best dive center in Phangan!
I will be back...

I signed up for my PADI open water certification with Lotus and really just wish I hadn't. The first day I was probably running about five minutes late (my mistake, and I sincerely apologised) to which the instructor and his boss (Te) continuously berated me for over and over again. I was told we were going to have food available and did not need to eat breakfast or bring anything, so I had not eaten. When I arrived my instructor said go ahead and eat some of the food they had available so I took a plate of basic plain rice (there was a MASSIVE amount of it). Te walks over yelling at me and snatches the bowl out of my hands and returns all the rice to the container. Lovely. My instructor then talked her down and I got some plain rice (what a breakfast!!!) and continued to sit around waiting for the rest of the people to show up. I also might add they all smoke constantly there so if you're the non smoker sitting outside is your responsibility, not the other way around.

The video portion of PADI was boring, no big surprise there and not Lotus's fault. The second half of the day was spent doing pool work, it was incredibly cold and the instructor could see I was getting VERY sick (horribly shaking) yet still took his time. When we finished for the day we then had to wait another 45 minutes for the people to get their act together to take us back. No, we weren't waiting for others to arrive or for a truck to become available. They just took their sweet time.

The second day we went out on the water, and my first dive I was literally grabbed and dragged by the instructor. I was absolutely miserable and the whole time on the boat we basically yelled at one another. Definitely something that was worth 10,800 Baht (over $300). Second time around was better, and really by the third day I was enjoying myself.

Did I enjoy myself because of my experience with Lotus? No, it was simply because I was diving in Thailand and seeing a beautiful underwater world. Would I recommend them? No, I literally dreaded going back after the first day. Though it picked up and I had an enjoyable time the last day, it was too little too late. It shouldn't have been such a negative experience the majority of the time. There are plenty of other dive companies that do the exact same, and I would say choose one of them rather than Lotus.

*SIDE NOTE*
I do not believe things got better because Lotus was concerned with my experience, as soon as I mentioned I would leave a bad review on Tripadvisor they freaked out. Even more so when I told my booking agent from the hostel I set everything up with how miserable of a time I had and she called them. They were more worried about future clients than ensuring their current ones were happy.

First thing, we had to wait about 20 min for the pickup. The whole way to the site was on the back of a truck, with no proper seats (about 40 min) and a very bumpy road. When we got on the ship we discovered it to be filled with big cockroaches (especially in the kitchen area). The sea was rough and the boat just couldnt handle it. Me and my girlfriend got sea sick, but the worst thing that happenned on this day was the treatment we got. No help was offered and we just got totally ignored during the hours of the diving(about 4 hours thatvwe just laid on the shaking boat, helpless), and no compensation was offered.
Afterwards, when we finally got to the land, we had to wait there over an hour, because they didnt have the right equipment for service they were offering for some of the divers(under water photos).
Overall, it seems that if you end up feeling ok during the boat ride to sail rock, you will have a nice time. But if you end up being sick, well, the company just doesn't know how to handle this sort of situations.
Not recommended.

Dear Omer Z, Thank you for your review. We are again sorry to hear that you didn't enjoy your day with us. As for the pick up, we offer this free service for all our customers and it's done by schedule, so everybody gets picked up in time. The only thing we can not schedule in is if people are late and make our driver wait. On your day we had quite a few people from your area staying in different resorts and waiting a few minutes at one place for people to show up can cause delays for the rest of the customers. We are truly sorry about this but it is beyond our control. As for the ride on the back of the pick up truck, most of our customers actually do like it in this way but we do have seats in the front of the car for people who don't want to sit on the back. Concerning your discovery of cockroaches on our boat, this is the first time we hear of this infestation and we're sorry you had to experience this. The problem in Thailand is that they are everywhere and you can only take care of this problem if you know about it. We didn't know there was a problem with this on our boat, but for sure we will look into this to get rid of them. As for the weather conditions, yes the sea was a little rough but our boat made it to Sail Rock and back without a problem. In the morning before departure we offered all our customers seasickness tablets but that is as much as we can do to prevent people from getting seasick. This is a risk when you go on a boat tour, and the worst is that if you do get sick and you don't want to or can't go diving is that you have to sit it out and wait on the boat. Sail Rock is almost an hour from shore and our boat has to wait for all the divers to finish their day diving before it can turn back to shore. As the other customers in your group did go diving, there is no staff left on the boat to take care of people feeling sick. We did try to get you in the water as that is the place you start to feel better quicker, but you and your friend choose to get back on the boat. In our experience most people feeling sick just want to lay down and sleep and don't have the need to be entertained. We are very sorry if you felt ignored and felt we didn't know how we should handle customers who get seasick. As for the compensation, we did give you a refund for the unused photo service but, as stated in our cancellation policy, seasickness is not a valid reason for a refund for the diving, which we explained to you and you understood this. After returning to our dive center all our customers who went diving needed to do their logging of the dives before the free return transfer to their hotels and on this day there were also a few people who used our photo service. These customers were asked to bring something to put the pictures onto but some customers however forgot to bring this and we went through the trouble of finding a different solution so these customers still got their pictures. We are sorry you felt this wait was too long but we worked as quick as we could and did explain to everyone the little delay. Everybody seemed to understand and didn't mind this delay. We are truly sorry again that you didn't have a nice day but ended up being sick and therefor didn't dive. We do hope you will find a calmer ocean sometime so you can go diving and have a good time! We wish you all the best and do hope to see you again next time you visit our island.

This review isn't even about the diving, because they ripped us off before we could. After telling me and my boyfriend 3 months previously at time of booking, they would pick us up from the hotel, and recon firming with them 3 times that the hotel we were staying at wouldn't be an issue, including a phone call the night before to check time of pick up and redo firm our hotel. We were told to wait at the reception of the hotel at 8 the next morning. 8 30 came around, and no sign of a pick up. Eventually they called to say they wouldn't be able to pick us up for the diving, and the only option we had was to spend 2000 baht a day, on a taxi to their class room- after paying expensive rates to begin with. With total disbelief at how appallingly the whole thing was being run, we politely asked for our deposit back and that we would find somewhere else to dive. After originally agreeing, and several chase up emails, we never saw the £250 deposit again. Truly awfully run, and ruined a holiday.

Went out to Sail Rock today for two nice dives. Staff is informing, helpful and briefing well abt the dive. Open for all of questions do give you the feeling you’re in good / safe hands. Diving school has got nice diving equipment, only the English language from our instructor could improve a bit.
Thanks for your sharing your knowledge abt diving at Sail Rock.

We strongly recommend this diving club. Everything was perfect. We loved the warm welcome, the friendliness, the seriousness of the club and the rate probably the lowest on the island at this time. A special The French instructor accompanied us from the pool to Sail Rock with all his patience and pedagogy.

In a nutshell: I had a blast!

The pick up in Baan Tai at 7.15 am was on time. The staff was very friendly, helpful and professional.
The price of 2250 Baht was by quite a bit the cheapest I found on my research ( from about 40 dive shops that I checked on koh tao and phangan, all starting from 2500 baht and up). Photos/videos were generously taken and transfered to me without even asking for it and free of charge. Luckily we were a small group and got lucky to be the only one diving with one of the staff members making it an exclusive and awesome experience overall reaching bottom times of 52 minutes on the first dive and 61 minutes on the second dive.

The dive site was amazing. Visibility about 15 metres! Many schools of fish. The young lady I was with her name was Bom (I hope I spelled that right ?) Was super talented in spotting all kinds of different fishes making it nearly impossible to write everything down into a logbook page.

At the end of the trip I was again friendly dropped off at my desired location at thongsala pier.

Thank you Chan and the rest of the Crew for the awesome day.

Chris
