Great day! Oy is a fantastic chef and teacher, very patient and with good humour. Nice trip to the market where she talked us through the ingredients - and local substitute ingredients that we can get in england. good attention to detail.

A must do! Our family of 7 (adults, young and old) had a great time. We picked our items from the menu and biked to the local market to get our groceries. At the market we taste tested vegetables and fruits. Upon returning we prepared the items and went into the next room to cook our meals. Everyone cooks their owns meals. As one of my sons said "I didn't know I could cook something so good and it would be so easy"! It was a great way to do something together and have fun!

A group of 4 of us booked in for an afternoon session for this Thai cooking school. We arrived and enjoyed a nice bike ride to the market where we were meant to buy our ingredients for our chosen dishes. We asked Chef Oi about the ingredients but she could not explain anything to us. She bought ready made Thai curry paste for all the dishes we were meant to cook. We asked her if we could make this ourselves - she said no. This was very disappointing as all of us can cook western food and would have liked to know how to cook Thai food properly. Without knowing how to make the paste it feels like you are cheating. We would have preferred her to teach us to make 1 dish from scratch for 4hours instead of 4 dishes that she made for us. During the trip to the market she didn't buy any fish and we were meant to cook fish cakes. When we arrived back at the shop she presented us with recipes and handed us a pre-made fish mixture for the fish cakes. We asked her if we could make it ourselves and she said no. We looked at the recipe she had given us and it was clear that the mixture contained ingredients not listed on the recipe. When questioned Chef OI asked us to add it to the recipe. We constantly had to check that the ingredients she was handing us were on the recipe. Her English was not good enough to give any instructions so she ended up just doing everything for us; from chopping an onion in quarters to breaking an egg. It was a very disappointing class and we did not enjoy it. We came away not having learnt anything and for the price we paid we felt ripped off. The brochure said the class would take 4 hours. After 2.5 hours she was rushing us out of the door wanting us to leave. She explained that she will be opening her own cooking school as she did not own this one. This was a huge waste of our time and money. Don't bother if you actually want to cook food.

We saw this place in a travel brochure at our hotel and as we only had 2 days at Koh Phangam and no time (or intention) to do a proper research, we gave it a go. The overall experience wasnt a tragedy - after all we cooked 3 dishes which were edible - but I wouldnt do it again. The ride to the market was disappointing, the chef spoke broken English so she couldnt really explain what she was buying. We were only there to carry her bags ... As for the cooking itself, the chef was extremely bossy, wouldnt let us do anything on our own (she was taking the knife out of our hands and showing how to cut vegetables as apparently we were not doing it properly). She was grumpy all the time and we really couldnt understand what she was saying:/ Interestingly, there were 3 of us in the group and each of us paid a different price! Turns out some hotels take commission (hence leaflets at travel counters), so if you decide to book, make sure you either do it directly by the phone (ca.1350 bht, pick up and drop off at the hotel included) or ask for that price at the hotel.
