Beautiful retreat and community!
Sep 2021 • Solo
I did my 200h TTC with La Casa Shambala in Bacalar and I’m so grateful for the beautiful experience. The destination, the teachers, the amazing manager Márian and all fellow students - so lovely!

Big portions of food, cute place etc. They were very keen to hear our feedback and really worked hard to improve the things we mentioned (for instance, we wanted avocado with our meals and we got it pretty much every day after that).

The backsides are minor - the yoga manual had a lot of typos and the anatomy lectures could be more structured. But Roxy and Vir (teachers) were excellent when it came to the asanas and the spiritual aspects of the practise. Thank you La Casa Shambala!!

All of the people at La Casa Shambala have been so welcoming and friendly! It feels more like a community than a business. They are always on hand to help you with whatever you need and they’re a special group of beautiful fun-loving souls who are inspiring yogis all over the world. Keep it up! <3

Beautiful soul nourishing 3 weeks!

I had a really great time on my YTT with La Casa Shambala in Bacalar, Mexico at Lulu La Bruja. It was a really great atmosphere, with a great group of people that became like family... the group size was quite large, 21 of us, but it also made for a great eclectic mix of people from all over the world.

Our teachers were Jessica Noifield (@jnoifeld) and Melissa Rose (@mielmel), who were both really fantastic, with very different styles of approach that really complimented each other so well and meant for a dynamic learning experience. Jess was genuinely passionate about community, she lead philosophy and would often lead us to answer our own questions and hold space for open discussion whilst covering the philosophy of yoga with room for interpretation. Mel was very strategic and concise with her Asana clinics and would undoubtedly make us all laugh frequently through out her teachings with a super positive energy. Amongst the usual YTT stuff... we also did some Thai Massage, Ayurveda, Astrology, and Business Workshops. I wouldn't call the training particularly intense but it was packed days with not a whole lot of breathing space but just enough to keep you from feeling overwhelmed and everything was handled in a loving and accommodating manner, in particular, Carolina our facilitator really gave her all and always wanted to make sure we were all ok. A real sweetheart. and the owner Rakel would also pop in and out making sure things were aligned and everyone was happy. Overall, whilst there's always room for a little improvement here and there, it was great to feel that the team really cared about our experience and did their best to make sure it was the best it could be, checkin in and making adjustments as needed to cater to the group.

The property it self Lulu La Bruja, is rustic and simple but comfortable enough if you are used to dorm and cabin style living but there are also some private rooms that are even more comfortable with private bathrooms and AC (at an extra cost). There's plenty of roofed/shaded outdoor spots from the cafe, to the lagoon front, small terrace, and shalla you can hang out or practice and study in. Indoors is mainly for sleeping and bathroom, but there is a kinda semi kitchen/dining area in the main house too, although nobody hung out there, but there is a fridge for drinks and such.

Bacalar is a small little town with the most amazing beautiful lagoon with parts that have some of the clearest most beautiful water I've ever seen. You need to explore a bit further than the water at the property for the clear waters but it felt great waking up every morning next to the lagoon and watching the sunrise over it. A truly magical spot and also made for some great morning meditations, ice bath, and full moon skinny dipping session.

It was a great experience I'll always appreciate.

Loving community
Apr 2021
I completed the 21day 200 hour teacher training with Casa Shambala in Bacalar, Mexico. What is obvious from the first contact with the team is that they genuinely care about and love what they do. They were extremely supportive and helpful at easing any worries and managed to organise this event smoothly which during mexico in a pandemic is no easy task!

The teachers were extremely knowledgeable and always happy to share knowledge with the students during classes but also over dinner etc. Although the group was big, it quickly felt like a close family, which I believe is because of Casa shambala's efforts to create loving communities wherever they go.

I left the course feeling confident to teach and I also deepened my own practice and knowledge.

Although the course is quite intense, I don't believe I would have felt the same benefits if I had completed it over a longer time period, having the wholesome healthy food, family experience and the yoga combined really has a profound impact on your body and mind. I would recommend the course for anyone looking to teach or to 'reset' your body and understand more about yoga.

Life changing
Apr 2021
I was part of the 21 day 200 hour Hatha Vinyasa teacher training in Bacalar, Mexico. I stayed in the dorm with 6 people at LuLu La Bruja, it did take a few days to adjust to the heat as we had no AC in the room, but a fan. What a beautiful home away from home hosted by La Casa Shambala family. Rakel (owner) is a truly special person to bring such a vision to life in Mexico for the first time with her Casa Shambala community, Carol so caring with taking care of our needs to do with the hostel/living. Teachers Jessica and Melissa have truly changed my life. Their authenticity, commitment/passion within their own practice, and care of each and every student made this such an incredible experience. The course included philosophy discussions that dove into Eastern traditions, which was super important for me. I feel comfortable with body alignment and deriving cues. One thing I felt the course lacked was a structured anatomy lecture, though we did learn body mechanics during asana clinic. My class size was 22 (I believe) which was rather large, however did not end up feeling "clique-y" or excluded. I entered this course to focus on my own practice but am now excited for the new journey to spread yoga in my own community. I am SO thankful that I had such a beautiful experience with La Casa Shambala, and have definitely found a new home away/ international yoga family. Rakel has big dreams and BIG love for what she does along with consideration to her students. I wish I could be back again for another round. Would recommend this yoga family for your yoga training or even just your own self development.

Fun times!
Feb 2020
I was here for 200 YTTC in 2020 and really enjoyed it. I shared bungalow with one other person which I was initially apprehensive about, but we ended up really getting along.

Pros:
Gorgeous Space classes are held upstairs in an open air space facing the mountains!
Beaches nearby (but I would recommend renting a motorbike to get there on breaks)
The friends you make!
Great teachers!
Not preachy
Morning chants with Cheryl (initially I did not like this and now I really miss it!)
One day off per week for the course I did :). I loved exploring the beaches, cafes, etc with my roommate those days

Cons:
For some people the simple housing and bathrooms (outdoors) could be an issue, it didn't bother me though
No provided snacks in between meals and cuisine might not be for some (I thought it would be better to have more protein in meals)

I am not an emotional person but at the end of this I felt like I was loosing a family in a sense. They get to you here in a good way :) Thank you La Casa Shambala!

I dont know where to start, i am at the end of my 3rd week now and it makes me sad that its almost over! This place makes me feel at home, its so warm and welcoming. Being in nature, with an amazing management (Carol & Ral), lovely volunteers and i feel so lucky with the group i'm in. Only love for everyone! Grateful for Rakel and everyone involved for creating this community. It made it so much easier to get through the training and seasons of emotions coming with it. Learned alot about yoga and about myself here. Also appreciation to Sara, my favorite teacher here. I will definetily come back in the future to volunteer 🤗💕 Thank you everyone! X

200 hr Yoga teacher training
Feb 2020 • Solo
Wow this place has been incredible. 2 weeks in and I’ve had the best health of my life. So grounded with nature, healthy Aryuvedic food every day, and yoga practice and teachers are phenomenal! Breakfast is made by hand of the volunteers that are also so helpful with any questions, accommodations, or just being a genuine person/friend. The managers make you feel at home and allow the space for you to be yourself. The teachers are very knowledgeable, flexible with their teaching and scheduling, and considerate. I’m beyond grateful for this experience. If you have any doubts I hope my review helps to win you over.
The bungalows are definitely worth it, for the price you get way more than the normal deal. Most places ask for a lot and give a lot less. Here at la Casa Shambala I promise you will get your monies worth, the knowledge you need to teach and expand your yoga journey, and friends for a lifetime. No downsides. Thailand/Kho Phangan is also very worth it compared to any other country or town. It is so beautiful here, and the Thai people are so respectful and good people. They also make the best food! Without taking any more of your time just trust La Casa Shambala has been an amazing experience for me and the group of new friends I’ve made being here. I don’t think anyone else feels any different than what I’ve expressed!

Thank you La Casa Shambala!!!!!

January Yoga TTC.
Jan 2020 • Solo
January 2020 yoga teacher training - 18 days. Recently completed my yoga ttc at La Casa Shambala. It was a great experience overall with great instruction and a packed course schedule given the 18 days. If I had my choice again I would have chosen a longer course length so the schedule was not so tight. I met some amazing people and came out the other side of the training feeling healthy and inspired. The grounds and yoga Shala are really cool and have a really relaxed vibe. There were a number of western volunteers supporting the la casa which was great as they added a great feel to environment and were always on hand to support us like giving us a lift into the nearby town or suggesting places to go etc...
I stayed in a bamboo hut on my own. It was clean and comfortable. There was a fan and a power point so had everything I needed. I thought I was going to be hot in the evenings but the weather was fairly cool in the evenings but that was seasonal.
Would highly recommend La Casa Shambala for your yoga ttc. It gave me an opportunity to learn and grow as person but also gave me the chance to experience such an amazing island.

Amazing 200h YTTC!
Dec 2019 • Solo
It was an amazing experience to take my yoga teacher training course here at La Casa Shambala. The accommodation had everything you need with beautiful surroundings of nature. The course is an intensive one but the friendly and caring managers, volunteers and teachers make sure you are supported through it all. I hope others choose to have their journey of learning and growing at La Casa Shambala as I have!
