Snorkelling trip. Speedboat picked us up at the beach at our hotel Long Beach Chalet. First stop Koh Rok and since we arrived first the girls had the beach to themselves while we boys did some snorkelling.
Very nice beach. The lunch we got served tasted very good. There is a small kiosk on the island as well. Rangers look after the beach and secure tourists behave accordingly.
Remember to wear sandals/shoes on the floating dock which is VERY hot.

A great place to go snorkelling and Scubafish diving. Try to visit the North Side for Snorkelling away from the sometimes busy south side. lots of fish and interesting coral.

while on Lanta, do take this tour! It is great and costs no more than 1200 Baht pp. (Which I'm sure is still too much by Thai standards but I am okay with them making some money too)
The speedboat trip takes an hour. Sit in front; much nicer and not so cramped as inside.
The snorklingstops are great. They provide you with all the gear. Ofcourse the Chinese people used lifejackets and weren't able to dive and see all the colourfull fish up close.
The lunch is served in a crowded campground. Walk away later on to around the beach corner. You'll be amazed by the beauty of the sand and water. The sand itself is just like baking flour.
If you are a returning snorkler, bring your own goggles as they may fit better.
A day and cash well spent!!

Looking at the attached pictures, I'm very sure you will agree with me that this is by far the best snorkeling site in the region. Note that I'm talking about snorkeling, not scuba diving.
Having been to quite a number of known snorkeling sites within Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and Philippines, this is by far the best in term of water clarity, coral and fishes. There is no massive colony of sea urchins everywhere, the hard coral still in pretty good shape and soft coral here and there, pretty big family of small cute nemo fish. As there is no big influx of tourists into this island, the place is still pretty rustic and beautiful, and hopefully this will continue. Every tourist who venture to this island and the surrounding snorkeling sites should do his/her part to keep the place unpolluted as much as possible so that we can continue to visit this place year after year.

On 18 March 2018, I took part in Club Mermaid’s excursion to Ko Haa and Ko Rok. While there is a lot of positive from the day, two incidents require comment.
The first stop at Koh Haa put a number of lives at risk. Their dive master is either not properly qualified or not a dive master - I fear the latter and think he is just director of entertainment - sent us all off to snorkel. However water currents immediately put people at risk and the fact that no other operator put people in the water shows their expertise and the complete reckless irresponsibility of CLUB MERMAID. I can appreciate a desire to please your customers but their pamphlet clearly says they reserve the right to not operate. The entertainment director ought have have said it was at least rough if not impossible to snorkel. A toddler as young as five was pulled out of the water by your tender boat with me only after my partner demanded a boat be launched to rescue me. Their competition Dive and Relax had to come to the rescue. For this I am grateful (please see my review of them in this forum).
No apology or even acknowledgement from the director of entertainment was forthcoming.
At the second stop - at Koh Rok - a 40 minute snorkel and beach visit turned into one much longer as the boat simply sailed away leaving people on the beach in the sun. Only when we wandered to the other side of the island did we discover the boat moored there with the tender boat tightly tied to it. No choice of being able to get back on until they decided to do so. Sun burn and discomfort resulted. Some Luke warm water was available when we found the boat.
What a pity that a simple lack of communication could have prevented this all. And a blessing there was no loss of life.
There are positives to the day - brilliant sights, amazing snorkelling at Koh Rok.
I would urge that when you choose to visit these beautiful places you are more than doubly sure of the operator (hard to assess from reviews and advertising though). Do yourself a great favour and avoid Club Mermaid who should be banned from operating.
I did contact them and was asked for ‘time to investigate’. Nothing further has come of this.

We had two fantastic Days with Cyrill "Lanta Dream & Paradise". His wife had made really good food and Cyrill did his best to show us all the best Thailand has to offer in terms of untouched islands with white sand and nice coral reeves. Koh Rok was our favorite. Phi Phi was nice as well but much more crowded and less good snorkeling. Cyrill is very much aware of the fragile, delicate nature and marine life around Thailand and he takes responsibility for it, making sure our future generations can see the beauty we get to experience today. You should make sure that you don’t go with speedboat anywhere because it is really bad for the marine life. Go with Cyrill and his longtail instead and enjoy the surroundings with good conscience.

We took the snorkeling tour to Koh Rok for 1500 Bt per person by speed boat from Lanta. The speed boat was overcrowded. The snorkeling was ok, but nothing extraordinary. We've seen better snorkeling sites right from the beach on Bali, for example.
The island itself left a depressing impression. The beach is indeed nice and white and so is the territory close to the beach (which is although crowded by tourists so is hard to find tranquility). But if you step out to see the lizards, just 100 meters from the beach, you will find numerous lizards and also a dump site, where these lizards live. Like rats in Europe. Lots of construction waste and just garbage that was dumped here years ago. The agency said it is a National Park territory and the entrance costs 400 Bt (included in the price of the tour). Well, I've never seen a park so soiled. The locals don't care about nature. We have not seen so much garbage in other parts of Thailand.

I booked a private boat to Ko Rok Nok with Lanta Dream & Paradise Longboat tours (look them up for full review). The island and scenery was nothing short of amazing. I'd rent a private charter, avoid the big tourist boats, and have them find you a private beach. The snorkeling is above average, but probably won't blow you away if you have snorkeled elsewhere in the world, Check it out if you are in the area.

Took a speedboat trip with Lanta Garden Hill after one of the staff recommended this island on a previous years holiday. He said this was his favourite of all the Andaman islands and was the most 'picture perfect' - he wasn't wrong!
As we stayed in a bungalow on the beach itself, the boat actually picks you up by backing up onto the sand and you wade through the shallow water to reach it. Very convenient and very cool! Our trip had about 14 people in total picked up from a handful of resorts and then you are on your way. If the sea itself is a little choppy the speedboats can get a little bouncy so if you have severe back problems etc. I would recommend either a big boat or long boat trip as these are more forgiving.
The trip itself consists of a few stops to swim or snorkel and then time on the island to chill and have lunch (which was included in the price). I wasn't expecting much from the food if I'm honest but was genuinely happy with what was served - chicken wings, vegetable, curry and a rice. Fresh fruit and water are available all day too, all included in the price.
The island itself is simply stunning. This was the gorgeous white sand and turquoise water we craved when visiting Thailand! I won't talk too much about the island as I will include some pictures which say all that needs to be said! 100% recommend this trip - one tip though, purchase your own snorkel before going on any of these trips. It will fit better, leak less and allow you to experience the breathtaking snorkelling without constantly adjusting and cleaning your mask.

The reef in ko rok nok was a view to behold. The entire ocean looked like an empire with castles for reefs. Best thing was that the reefs were ALIVE. The water was so clear and clean, the beaches amazing. Just a tip, do not to feed the fish there, the place is a reserve and we'd all like if it stays beautiful that way. Feeding the fish would deter it from feeding on the reefs, which would cause planktons to grow and accumulate bacteria causing the reefs to die.

des conseils pour choisir mon excursion à koh rok ? je suis basée en octobre/ novembre sur Koh lanta sur long beach ?
Written September 19, 2017
Hello there,
Me and my wife will be staying in ko lanta during January 2017 first week. Regarding the ko rok night camping, is it required an advance booking or could it be done once we are there in ko lanta?
I saw some reviews of night camping at ko rok and day tour to emerald caves as a combined package. If some body can put some light on to that would be great and helpful.
Thanks in advance
Sanu

Is Koh Rok Nok or Phi Phi Islands better for snorkeling?
Written October 21, 2015
It depends if you want more coral or more fish. Koh Rok is known for their coral but Phi Phi has more sealife.

Hi,
I'm trying to find out if you can still camp on Ko Rok Nok.
My hotel suggests that the new Thai government has banned camping in national parks? But I'm getting mixed information, the tour providers have said it's still fine to camp on Ko Rok
Also does any one know how to contact the park ranger.
