We arrived in Koh Lanta hoping to find somewhere for us to start off on our yoga journey and Oasis Yoga provided us with the most nurturing environment that far surpassed any of our expectations.
We genuinely looked forward to turning up each day to be taught by the wonderful Farra who is a great yoga teacher and ensures that everyone regardless of ability/experience is able to participate and get the most from each class.
You can really tell she has a genuine love for what she does and you can feel it reflected in the practice.
We are really going to miss Oasis (and Mango the dog) and hope to return one day. We are so thankful to Farra for igniting an interest and passion for yoga and can't wait to see where this journey takes us. Highest recommendations for any one at any level! - Amber and Ash

I could recommend the place for beginners and people who done it longer. So the classes are good for all levels! Place is relaxing and nice! Teacher will give you several options from easy to more harder steps. You only need to bring yourself and maybe a bottle of water :)

So I had to try yoga.
Let me preface by the fact I am not flexible. I run, but predominantly I do weights - I keep in shape, but the last time I could touch my toes comfortably I am pretty sure I was putting my feet in my mouth and couldn't pronounce my own name.
And now my girlfriend wants to take me to yoga, on a Saturday morning no less.

Turn up easily enough and are greeted by really chilled nice people. Have a chat advise my complete inexperience. Tell them about my recent shoulder surgery - no fuss we got you covered.

And the class itself - AWESOME! Did NOT expect that! Nice flowing yoga with good instructions and a nice chilled vibe. Different levels per technique shown smoothly by the instructor, even comes over to get my technique right and advises me to slow down a little when the testosterone in me starts to make me push myself a bit too far :) And the view... beach is so close you can taste the water!

2 hours later I am genuinely refreshed, little tender but not shattered and honestly, signing up for yoga back home :) Good cost, great class and even better instructors.

Give it a shot guys!
And for the girls, my girlfriend loved it just as much as me :)

Newly opened place, honest, open and simple owners. Yoga classes are on buildings second floor on the roof but under the roof. Sea view with wind blowing from the sea, so prey nice. We were at afternoon session. It's pretty low pace, based more on stretching than constant movement (contrast to ashtanga yoga), but I found it good selection for local temperature of 35+C (in my mind it's to tough for any more intense physical activity).
Don't know about morning sessions.
p.s. message to owners: some tea downstairs after the yoga session could be a nice idea.

The Oasis Yoga rents out small two person houses (15 to 20) and also (2) family houses. The bigger houses are comfortable and quite big. One is at the end of the property (more on the resort, in the green) and one next to the road, at the entrance. This was the one we had been given for nine nights. It was very quiet at that moment only a few bungalows were rented out.

When booking we slightly got the feeling that they (owners) were not very keen on having (big) families eventhough they advertise that the family house can accomodate up to 6 people (2 double beds and 1 bunk bed). We were with 2 adults and 3 kids ( 10,11 & 13 years old).

The location of the Oasis Yoga is great; very close to the beach (with some great restaurants) but also close to the main street with lots of (nice) restaurants serving Thai- and world-dishes. Also there are some supermarkets close by.

The local staff (Nook) were great, she welcomed us when we arrived. She also made sure that everything was okay during our stay. And she is very much into recycling, an absolute necessity for the island (and the whole of Thailand!). This was also very much in the bungalow (big 5 liter bottles of water, re-use of towels etc, great!).

However we didn’t have the same warm feeling with Kate (one of the owners). She was not very communicative.
As a guest you are aware that this is a ‘yoga’ resort, so we made sure that the kids were as quiet as possible. This is not always easy. Because of the heat they were in the pool early and we kept reminding them that people were still asleep or following yoga-classes. However one afternoon the two eldest were into a fight (teenagers!) and I did send one of them to the bungalow. There, on the patio, he started to argue with me. Kate showed up, didn’t ask what was going on but told me I had to solve this inside the bungalow. It was the same feeling I had during the booking; we do like your money but not your (kids)presence.

I think that either transform the two bigger houses into dorms or accept the presence of families. Kids can make noise every know and then. The funny part is that there is a information sheet in the bungalow saying that there might be some noise when yoga classes start because of people arriving at scooters. This is acceptable but kids are not?

We’re in the people’s business as well. And even though the local (Thai) staff is great, management isn’t giving you the feeling that they want to give you a memorable experience. I did get the feeling that yoga was thé most important part of the resort.
A real pitty as the resort itself is beautiful.

Thanks for taking the time to send your feedback. Indeed yoga, at Oasis Yoga Bungalows, is very important to us but we welcome all and are never pushy about yoga. Our yoga studio has been located on Klong Dao beach (aka family beach) for 5 years now so we are very accustomed to families with children. Having spent many years teaching children and teenagers before moving to Thailand, we actually really enjoy their company and are very aware of the noise they can make :) There are many large family hotels all located all around us and we are trying our best to offer something a little different so we do kindly ask all parents to try to talk to their kids about being mindful of others and learn to carry on having fun with reasonable volume but we are real people who totally understand that sh*t happens. It was a quite time of year during your stay with not so many other guests so no one minded or spoke up throughout the week as your older children played and heckled each other. In fact, I planned not to say anything during the specific incident that you mentioned even though I could easily hear the commotion through the closed door of my office across the property. However, another guests in the restaurant came into my office literally concerned about the welfare of the child and was very upset. The teenager was more or less hysterically screaming and as the other was across the property it was quite more than your average 'kids being kids". The last thing I wanted to do was intervene in your parenting, so I thought it was best to just ask you to take this family matter indoors in consideration of everyone else on the property. I'm genuinely sorry if you felt unwelcome, embarrassed or judged by my response to your family feud, that was certainly not my intention. As the "adults in the room" (parents, teachers, leaders, owners, ect) it's very difficult to always know the right thing to do when situations come up that need our patience, compassion, mindfulness and wisdom. Sometimes we get it right, sometimes we don't but hopefully we keep learning either way and try again next time. We appreciate your overall good review and we totally agree with you that Nook and the entire Thai staff are absolutely wonderful. We always aim to be as eco-friendly as possible and will continue to improve that every season and it's so awesome when we get positive feed back from guests on this subject as it encourages us to keep striving to be better. We wish you and your family a life health and happiness!

Coming to a yoga class here was a highlight of my time in Ko Lanta. The owner, who also taught the class, is lovely and did a great job of making the class accessible to all levels.

I hung out in the gardens afterward and had a delicious & healthy lunch in the restaurant- made me wish I had stayed at the bungalows instead of the place I was in! Would highly recommend to any yogis visiting Ko Lanta.

My teenage daughter took a yoga class and loved it. Farra was very friendly, too. I would have taken the class but forgot appropriate shorts. I wasn't planning on taking the class actually, but Farra was so welcoming to a relative yoga newbie that I was ready to give it a try. I was bummed that I forgot my appropriate shorts. We were going to go back for a few more classes, but couldn't pull ourselves away from sunset at the beach. We'll definitely take more classes at Oasis when we return to Koh Lanta.

Thanks for taking the time to review us Colleen. It was a pleasure to get to know you and your daughter. Next time you have a school holiday in Hong Kong, toss those yoga shorts in your bag and come back to see us. I love the "I don't like yoga but I need yoga" yogis and welcome the challenge ;))) Keep a close eye on that kind hearted daughter of yours! Wishing you both health and happiness, Farra.

I felt there was no love in the atmosphere and not many positions. There was noise of building work going on next door, extremely over rated by the other reviews. But reading through them they havent done yoga before. Best wishes

The noise of our neighbors is a very legitimate complaint. Luckily, they quickly finished building the small temporary housing unit for their Thai staff and it's no longer a concern but certainly I can understand your frustration with it during your particular session. I'm also sorry you didn't feel any love in the air, because for Kate and I, creating Oasis Yoga has truly been a labour of love. Indeed we do seem to get a lot of beginners and yoga newbies, which I find to be a great honor and responsibility. But to be fair; we get a WIDE variety of practitioners! In this environment everyday seems to bring something new. On your particular session, which was a 9am Multi-Level Flow practice, it brought us a woman in her 60s with more than 15 years practicing, a Swedish instructor & studio owner, 3 people who spoke very little English, 2 taking their first ever class, a few people "getting back" to their practice, an injured athlete seeking healing through yoga, and several that have been practicing with us regularly for many months or season after season. I try my very best to make sure that no one gets bored, no one gets injured, and everyone gets fulfillment in their practice, clearly I missed the mark for you and I'm sorry you were disappointed. Kate and I wish you all the best in your travels and especially in your yoga practice. Health and Happiness.
