The first thing to note at Thung Yee Pheng is that the entrance fee is the same for foreigners as Thai visitors and that is rare in Thailand! 40 THB is very good value. Certainly, this attraction is improving from when we first visited and it’s possible to walk through the mangroves or hire a boat or kayak. We chose to walk and being low tide, the intricate patterns of the mangrove tree roots were very much in evidence. On the whole, the walk is in the shade and the mud is alive with tiny crabs and other mud dwellers. We could hear monkeys but, on this visit, they weren’t in evidence. If they do appear, take care particularly if they have young with them. Strolling around takes about an hour. Parking as by the entrance and nearby is a section illustrating the history of the mangrove forest. Well worth visiting.

We arrived by scooter . Paid the 40 baht per person entry fee to walk the mangroves. Easy access with paths throughout . Went down to Cat cafe which is on the water made from ramshackle bits of wood to support the restaurant and 3 resident cats. Hired a long tail boat for 1000 baht an hour . Awesome relaxing trip through the mangroves . 2 monkeys swam onto the boat!! We fed them watermelon and pineapple from the boat guy. Went back after chugging along in the dodgy wooden long tail and had a great lunch at cat cafe again. 1000 baht was a bargain for 2 people and the experience we had. Thoroughly recommend this.

We first went down to Mu Ko Lanta National Park. We walked 20 flights of stairs up the mountain with giant steps, then we turned back. You should be younger if you're going all the way. A quick visit to Old Town was also a good idea. Went out on the pier. Finally we were going to Mangrove Forest by longtail boat and it was a nice little trip. Many monkeys at the edge of the mangrove. A monkey swam out to the boat and jumped into the boat.

Before that trip with longtailboat to mangroveforest I was little bit scared of monkeys… but not anymore! Our boatdriver asked if it is okay ”monkey on the boat?” A little monkey then travelled with us some time. It swimmed to the boat because boatdriver had apple and so on as a bait. Not only monkeys but those mangroveforests themselfs are amazing! And we saw big jellyfishes and small mudfishes too. That trip took over 1 hour. The restaurant service in the morning is not so good, but you can get thai tea or coke/sprite/water and ice cream at least. I recommend this trip by longtailboat!

We had visited this attraction earlier in the year and decided to have another look just in case there had been some improvement. Sadly they answer was no! In fact everything looked so neglected that we wondered if it had been like this pre Covid.
Wooden walk ways and signs were rotting away and despite the presence of a number of long tailed boats, there was absolutely no sign of life…even the monkeys had disappeared!
We wandered around the concrete walkways and it is an interesting walk though the mangroves and it really is a shame that it has been allowed to deteriorate into its present condition.
All that can be hoped is that if there is a resurgence in tourism, then money will be found to renovate what could be a really good visitor attraction for Koh Lanta. We would love to see it restored.

I'm not sure what has happened unless Covid is the reason for a deserted but very interesting place to visit. There was no one in sight! Everything, except the toilets, was closed and it looked as if the whole area had been abandoned.
There is a concrete walkway through the mangroves which is certainly worth the effort in the heat. There were assorted long tail boats but no sign of life! Along the walkway, were placed what had been information boards but any information had long since disappeared. We assumed that the walkway was circular but at one point, it had collapsed so we had to retrace our steps.
It was certainly quiet with no other visitors. We had an occasional glimpse of some monkeys and there was some interesting bird life.
I'm not sure if there is an admission charge but as no one was there, it turned out to be a free trip!
Probably worth visiting but would be so much better if maintenance was improved and the boat trips were available.

I booked a morning longtail cruise around here and it was pretty fun. I was the only person on the boat. There's plenty to see like birds, monkeys which jumped on the boat, jumping fish and mangroves. It's worth a look if looking for something to do in Ko Lanta.

We suggest renting the kayak directly at the Thungyeepeng Natural Study and Eco Tourism Center. We went there because the price was the same as in the travel agencies around but they let you kayak as long as you want (or can). We arrived at 8h30 am and stayed for 2h30. It was enough for a trip of 8-10 km in the mangrove. It was absolutely gorgeous! We saw a lot of monkeys, some of them came in the kayak. We followed the long tail boats and found the green tunnel, but we were also able to reach smaller ones were the other boats couldn’t go. Our best experience in a mangrove forest! Note: Keep your gps with you, not to get lost in this maze. If you stay in the main channel, no risk at all.

We found this hidden gem by incident while exploring the island by scooter.

Totally unprepared, we booked a private longtail boat tour for an hour to see the mangroves. That only was fully worth the price we paid, but the best had yet to come.

After a while, the captain started making monkey alike sounds and within the wink of an eye, 6 monkeys (including a baby monkey) jumped into the boat.
Never before, we experienced such a bunch of friendly and loving monkeys.
While feeding them pieces of pineapple and watermelon ( so THAT s why the captain brought it!) we were able to cuddle them and gave the monkey a finger for handshake.

One monkey was so clever to take an empty waterbottle and put it in my lap. It seemed to be thirsty.
Captain had a full bottle of fresh water and gave that monkey some.

This trip was so awesome, I would even travel from Krabi to Lanta especially to experience this again.

Unbelieveble that this trip has only so little reviews.

What a nice trip! We could hardly understand the longtailboat skipper but this did not matter at all. Beautiful nature and the interaction with the cute monkeys was quite enough to make a long lasting impression. The trip does not come cheap but what the hell, you are on holiday and contribute to a lifestyle of co-existing with nature as the people exploiting the operation safeguard the mangroves for future generations.

This activity is way to low on the to-do-list and needs more votes!

We hired a motorbike and got a motorboat from the park for 1hr for two persons at 1000 batt total .We enjoyed the trip so much we returned a few days later around 3pm and hired a two person kayak ( 20o batt an hr) .it was fantastic .We paddled downstream and saw loads of monkeys. We even had three monkeys jump on our kayak looking for food.If you don’t want the monkeys to jump on ur kayak don’t paddle too close to the bank.we had two monkeys fight on our boat which made me a bit nervous as it rocked the boat a bit, but it was a great experience and well worth doing. We only did one hr kayak but saw monkeys almost immediately so it was the best 200 batt trip we did

Absolutely a must visit as it is a lush mangrove forest with many water outlets leading to beautiful open bays. This forest is loaded with wild life, birds and monkeys galore.
First time I see monkeys swimming...it was amazing
Highly recommended
