- Shelley MAlbany, New Zealand915 contributionsThe bats were coolWe enjoyed this Wat and the grounds are easy to navigate. My family enjoyed climbing the stairs to look inside and see all the bats - loads of them. 50 baht entry if not purchased the combo ticket, but it was a favourite of our family. The arch/entry makes for nice pictures too.Visited April 2024Traveled with familyWritten April 18, 2024
- Bram the travellerThe Netherlands274 contributionsGood and not so crowded50 baht to get in. There are a couple of stalls in front of so you can get water and enough place to put your bike ( or a couple of tuktuks if you prefer). Inside is not so crowded. But a lot of tourist disrespecting the ground you are on. But this happens all over Asia. You can spend here about 15-20 minutes and then you’ll bendone but it is worth itVisited August 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten August 11, 2024
- vishaw k75 contributionsBest after Wat Mahathat. What makes this temple unique is that most relics found in Ayutthaya were from it's crypt. The sword of Victory, miniature royal elephant, golden crowns, golden embroided pieces of cloth. Makes you feel special when you are taking a walk among the ruins.Visited October 2024Traveled soloWritten October 6, 2024

It was the first ruin we visited as it was only 800meters from our Hotel. It is just across the road from Wat Mahathat. We bought a combi ticket for 220 Baht which gave access to this, and 5 other wats.
The place wasn’t crowded, as the tour buses probably skipped this place. What a pity for these travellers, for they will never know, what they missed, while being in the vicinity. We realised that there was so much to explore in Ayutthaya, that you needed a few days here.
There are sign boards illustration on its history and significance. The temple complex is huge and well maintained. The main exhibit i is a large tower on an elevated platform which is surrounded by four smaller towers. There is an ordination hall and an assembly hall. There are steps leading to the top of the temple and you can walk up slowly for a view. We were there at noon, and it was quite a hot weather, and best to carry a hat, sunblock and water with you. Alternatively, if you have ample time, then, going early morning or late afternoon may be an option. We spent more than 2 hours exploring and photographing this site. Just across the main roads there are cafes and eateries which are worth trying.

This temple is underrated. Found right next to Wat Mahathat, this temple is significantly more empty, and offers you an opportunity to explore the ruins and imagine how majestic it used to be in the old days. We went around sunset and were one of 10 people in the whole grounds-- this offered a great opportunity to photograph the temple without tons of people in the way. We also were able to climb up to the top of the temple, and could see tons of bats in the dark cove so make sure to look up and listen to their chattering!

This was my first temple in the city, and the entry was 50 Baht. 220 Baht if you want a multi ticket for 6 temples in total. Great value. The ground were large and open. Many stupas surround a main prang of which I found this was the only one accessible. Careful, it's not for those with fear of heights or bats as they fly around inside. It's also dark inside, so watch your step.
It's a quiet temple compared to those nearby but well worth a visit.

The Temple was built by King Borom Ratchathirat II on the site where both his brothers died (killed each other) during a fight for the vacant throne of Ayutthaya. After the death of both brothers, King Borom Ratchathirat II became king. As such, Wat Ratchaburana was built during the early Ayutthaya period. The prang was the centerpiece of the temple complex. The vaults inside the main prang also displayed wall paintings, depicting the Buddha's previous lives. Unfortunately, these images have deteriorated greatly in recent years. There are only very few visible images left.

I know there are so many different, beautiful temples all around Ayutthaya, but this one is my favourite. The temple complex is huge and you can easily spend couple of hours strolling around and climbing different bits of the temple (please make sure you NEVER climb onto parts that are exempt from climbing or sitting!). There are many great photo opportunities so I would suggest going early morning or late afternoon when the crowds are smaller and the light is pretty.

Wat Ratchaburana is one of the 5 main temples in the historical kingdom of Ayuthaya and I have visited the same during my Ayuthaya sightseeing. It is located right across the street from Wat Mahathat and the tall temple tower is visible from the street. There are steps and one can climb up to main altar of the temple. Entrance ticket is 50 baht but I had purchased combined ticket at Wat Mahathat for 220 baht.

This is another large Buddist temple ruin located in Ayutthaya historic Park. This beautiful site is located right next to wat mahathat. There is a hill like pagoda that can be climbed up to pagoda. Tourists must be very careful while climbing up. The view from the top is very charming. A huge green grassfield with red ruins can be viewed. For foreigners entrance fee is 50 baht, 10 for locals.

Such a beautiful Wat. Look very different day and night. Beautiful by itself day and night.
We came late afternoon to experience the day and night.
Night market (food) just right outside.
Magical.

Next to Wat Mahathat but by far not so crowded, guess most Tourist groups won't stop here.
Well restoed Prang but beware of the steep stairs leading to the crypt.
Take the time to stroll around and do not limit your visit to the Prang only, the whole site is worth a visit.
To continue your Ayutthay visit, consider renting a bicycle and explore on your own or a Tuk Tuk for a couple of hours, length depending on the sites you want to see. We did quite some distance by walking (very hot!) before going for the Tuk Tuk option.

Wat Ratchaburana is located central in Ayutthaya, just near of Wat Maha Tat. It’s a smaller temple with the typical chedi of Ayutthaya. It’s smaller temple but for sure a temple you need to visit when in Ayutthaya.
