We took a food tour with Bangkok Food Tours, led by Olive. Got picked up at our hotel in Bangkok, and visited 3 of the 500 temples at Ayutthaya. Olive knew some great places to for lunch there, and also stopped next to river on the way back for river prawns. food was great, the ruins were great and Olive was great.

If you ask me, Ayutthaya is the most lovely town in Thailand. Especially if you like to see the history of one of the most amazing countries in the world. If you like to see the whole town of Ayutthaya, you should take 3 to 4 days. There is plenty of good value accomodation and the restaurants with the local food are all over town. You need to try the local Noodles, gorgeous. The historical site is absolute gorgeous, plenty of old pagodas and temples with certainly a visit worth, the former grand palace . Ayutthaya was the capital of Thailand until 1767, in full it's called "Pra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya" what means Royal city Ayutthaya. The town has everything, from shopping malls to small local markets, there is a big weekend market in the new centre and there are plenty bars and cafés. Also there is night life but overall its a quiet town with lovely friendly people. A must is making a cruise dinner on one of the big boats on the Chao Praya river. As I said, take your time, you will enjoy it!
