    Unique experience
The walk upto the beach is lined with a number of small shops selling huge variety of stuff made of sea shells etc. Beach itself is small & clean and there's uninterrupted view to the horizon with a few other visitors, without any boat or sun bathers. We spent about an hour there walking on sand & marveling at the pollution free environment & clear sky. Ruins of church & other buildings added a surreal touch.

A stone's throw away from Sri Lanka.
This is a much celebrated point at the confluence of the Palk Straits and Gulf of Mannar. They say you can sight the Sri Lankan coast from here. We had no such luck even on a clear day. But I got a welcome SMS from Airtel Sri lanka! There was a time when the Dhanushkodi Island could be reached by a scary causeway across the sea. In 2016 the Highways department opened a 20 kms highway that cuts across the two seas. On one side is the Palk Straits and Gulf of Mannar is on the other. They are 2 different shades of blue and easily distinguishable. The drive is very enjoyable. It might be a good idea to park your vehicle some distance before the end of the highway: on a busy day, that point chokes with vehicles trying to reverse and turn back after sightseeing. You could combine the trip to Kothandarama Temple, which is only a small diversion from the highway 10 kms before the Dhanushkodi beach

End Point and Nice Sandy Beach
Although the beach is nice and unique, don't anticipate anything out of the ordinary—rather, it feels like the end of India. On the sandy water, we had fun. Though we just arrived on schedule before 5 PM, please be mindful of the time. Many vendors selling sea-related items. The prices are the same everywhere, so don't waste your time looking for a good deal. The sunrise and sunset are really pleasing. Rameswaram is 20 km away, but we had no trouble as we had a rental car.

We were a group of bikers and we stayed at Rameshwaram in a hotel. It was during the October month. We started our journey from Rameshwaram towards Dhanushkodi at five in the morning. Before starting, we were not too sure if this abandoned and lonely town of Dhanushkodi had anything exciting to offer.

But there was a twist. We left Rameshwaram and entered the road connecting Rameshwaram and Dhanushkodi. It was around 16 km long narrow stretch with some astonishing views of the Bay of Bengal on the left and Indian Ocean on the right. Now we were really excited!

The road was as straight as a straight line (check it in the map). The cool morning breeze was as pleasant as it could be. Magical journey it was.

After riding for about 30 mins, we reached the tip of the road beyond which was nothing but water. Cannot explain in words how amazing the whole natural setup was.

It felt superb to know this place was once the only land-border between India and Sri Lanka. It is believed that the famous Ram Setu was built by Sri Hanuman Ji in this very place and later was destroyed by Shri Ram with his arrow. Hence the name Dhanushkodi. By the way, Sri Lanka will be merely 30KM far from the beach point.

The best thing about this place is that you look left, you'll see the calm and lazy Bay of Bengal. You look right, you'll see the restless Indian Ocean. Choose whichever you prefer. The beach is generally not over-crowded which is a plus.

The sand beaches were serene, clean and treat to the eyes. We watched the sunrise from the beach. The waves looked very different from other beaches as two oceans merge here.

We stayed there for some time and explored the beaches on both sides before heading back to Rameshwaram through the same road. The road was newly built and was a treat for bikers.

Tips: Try starting early morning as the temperature rises too much during the day. You can also try visiting in the evening at 4-5PM for sunset.

Private jeeps and private cars are also available from Rameshwaram. Kindly arrange the car the night before if you travel early morning.

Carry food and water as there will be limited food stalls at the beach point.

We had visited as part of our southern sojourn trip from Isha.
It's a great place to have a view of sunrise here. Better be here at 6am in the morning, sunrise happens around 6:15 am. The sanagam of 2 oceans happen here !! which is the bay of Bengal and Indian Ocean. Both are of different colours and when they join they are of great view to watch!! . The sand of this beach is just so soft like a face Powder!!.

But a great to enjoy the morning with friends and family.

Thanks
Sharath

This is the furthest point on the Island of Rameshwaram and is the closest to Sri Lanka. In British colonial times and for years after independence it was the launching point for the ferry to Talaimannar Pier in Sri Lanka. Thousands of people have travelled through here. The train used to come here daily from Chennai. In Dec 1964 there was a terrible storm or cyclone that devastated this area. The last train was washed away killing 110 people. Thousands perished here. It was a mammoth natural disaster that left this place a ghost town.

Dhanushkodi when translated means "end of the bow". The site of confluence of blue and green waters of the Indian Ocean and the Bay of Bengal is absolutely breathtaking. It is connected with the original Indian mainland only by the Pamban Railway Bridge. The place has been reduced to ruins and mystic stories today due to a cyclone in 1964,which had the intensity to destroy the city.On a clear day,you can view the Srilankan coast from here.
Though, it is just 18-20 Kms from Rameshwaram, there are no restrooms or hotels here .Though vendors are aplenty selling cool masala cumbers and watermelons. Do carry umbrellas ,sunscreens and drinking water.
Loved the shoreline, blue sky and the confluence of two major seas. In route ,there were quaint and picturesque fishermen Hamlets..They had loads of shops selling some very good stuffmade of shells .

Hey guys , I am big devotee of lord Ram so Ayodhya always attracted me as I was frequent visitor to such religious place until I had been to Rameshwaram. What to say about this place.same peaceful place as Ayodhya. State & language never matter if you are good human . Tamilnadu is such place where hardly u get someone speak Hindi but I always got good and helping people . Anyways this island in India or small tapu u can say. I did not know this is one of char dham in India which I got to know after I came back. So if you want to visit temple properly , they do puja 4 times since morning to evening. Temple is very big so it will take 4 hrs to see . There are 4 gates in temple so u May get lost if u don’t remember way. Later we went to dhanushkoti ..what a place man ☺️..place where bridge connect to Sri Lanka.. I will put some pics , you just see and realise. Then panchmukhi hanuman , we got stone which float in water and we donated some money as well. Padmanabhan bridge has rarest water colour I ever saw . Okay so Kanyakumari and Rameshwaram are in same state but water colour is different in both places. This is really magical for me. I feel to be blessed to be on earth and visit such beautiful places on planet. Guys go and enjoy. Feel nature and beauty created by god. Have fun guys,.cheers 👍👍

The drive is the best experience. The long road with a roaring sea on one side and a calm sea on the other is an experience. Vehicles are permitted only until 5pm so please plan accordingly. There is an entry fee for environmental protection but the whole beach is littered with plastic and waste. That's the only dampner. Small shacks selling fresh cooked fish is a good experience. No other amenities at the location.

I did road trip in the car from Chennai to dhanushkodi. The highway was not that great to cruise in highspeed from pondy so I strongly recommend to use Trichy, pudukottai and ramanad highway.
Dhanushkodi is the only place in the world where one can drive between the sea. This place is completely ruined after a 1964 cyclone and called as a ghost town. This place is just 24kms away from srilanka by sea. Tourists are allowed to visit between 8am to 5pm and after that no one is allowed to stay on the island. There are few small shacks available for lunch and local auto rickshaws for transport. This is definitely one of the most important places to visit in the world.

The Arichal Munai (Dhanushkodi Beach point) is the end of the road for NH 87. It is separated from Sri Lanka only by a few miles.

Earlier, you were not allowed to drive to this point but now you can. The approach road (NH87) is lovely once you leave Rameswaram. It is about 20 kms from Rameswaram and should take 20 mins by car. It is a lovely drive - you are driving on a narrow strip of land with oceans on both sides! There are of course beaches here and plenty of places to park and explore. There is also a temple jutting into the Indian Ocean. There is Rs 20 entry fee into this road and a check to see if you are carrying plastic.

The beach point is crowded with tourists most of the time. There is some parking area, but you will typically end up parking by the side of the road. Lots of hawkers.

The views are stupendous. I went there late afternoon. Guess best times to visit would be during sunrise or sunset.

The tourism department should make some effort to maintain this place better.

The best way to reach dhanushkodi is take a share auto available fr 500 fr 2 pax, available from near West gate of rameswaram temple....bus no.2, is available but very crowded and 45 mins travel time one way....travel faster by share auto n visit a temple enroute, which buses do not cater. Auto driver guides on the ruins to visit n drives upto the last point n back, waits patiently fr us to visit places of interest. The roads are smooth and fresh air to be enjoyed on the journey. We were catered by Prabhakaran auto driver.
