- NeelYaduNew Delhi, India121 contributionsBirder's paradiseThis place being birder's paradise is one of my favorite too. The entry rules have changed a little and with 2 or more people in one rickshaw have to take guide compulsorily. The spotting places keep on changing but we sighted python which was slithering into hole. Before we could even get down and take out cameras it was gone. We could see owls, storks, ducks, herons, grey hornbill, Eurasian marsh harrier feeding on a coot, pied kingfisher, white breasted kingfisher, jerdons leaf warbler, spotted deer, blue bull, monitor lizard, flapshell turtle, shol fish and many more.Visited March 2024Traveled with familyWritten March 3, 2024
- Anuradha HMumbai, India51 contributionsMust-do Bird SanctuaryWe spent 3 days at the Sanctuary and saw more than 105 species of birds Resident & Migratory. The weather was pleasant and the viewing was spectacular. This sanctuary with its walking trails around the wetlands is simply beautiful. On the first day itself, we saw 73 species of birds up & close (of the total of 105 plus over the 3 days), thanks to the very knowledgeable and patient Guide Mr Tarun Kumar {(+91) 9460912641}. He was on time each day, planned a new trail each day, he knew exactly where to wait and watch. His understanding of the birds, their habitats and migratory journey is indeed noteworthy. Our e-rickshaw guy Mr Jitu (+917891807029) was also very knowledgeable and enthusiatic in spotting birds and driving us to their locations to spot them in time. We saw Saras cranes and heard their calls and the Pelicans too! In fact on that day, Mr Tarun and Jitu were the first ones in the park to spot the Pelicans! For keen bird watchers and alike, this Sanctuary is a must-do.Visited February 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten March 9, 2024
- rfaithnelsonPrineville, Oregon103 contributionsBird paradiseDid a pre-trip private extension here which I booked through Nature Safari India. What a bird paradise! My private guide was knowledgeable & focused on what I wanted to see. Because I like to hike we hired an electric tuk tuk for the main road but walked a lot of the side trails. If you like wildlife, and especially birds/ducks, it don't think you will be disappointed. If this information helps, I stayed at The Bagh which, although it looked a little run down when I arrived, I also grew to like very much.Visited March 2024Traveled soloWritten March 30, 2024
- ilina mNew Delhi, India75 contributionsMonsoon beautyFor those of you who think only of seeing migratory birds at Bharatpur, the core area is closed at this time. But if you love the lush green of rain-washed forests, total quietude, no tourists and no vehicles - then this is the perfect time for Bharatpur. Lots of birds, crickets, peacocks strutting around, and foxes!Visited August 2024Traveled with friendsWritten September 16, 2024

It was a 4 hour car drive from north Delhi (without any stoppage). Road conditions are overall good because the majority of it is the Yamuna expressway. When you enter Mathura, extremely narrow and congested roads with potholes but fortunately it is a small stretch. Still try to avoid entering the city. The sanctuary entry is open only till 5pm in summer, so if you want to enjoy the sunset, make sure that you enter before 5. We decided to take a rickshaw@â‚ą600. If you really want to view the beautiful birds, then you have to take a guide (@â‚ą1000) so that you can get a close up via telescopic lens and binoculars. Unfortunately there is no facility for hiring binoculars at the sanctuary, so the only alternative is a guide. One can also walk or hire a cycle. Rickshaw tour took us 1.5-2 hours only. Even in peak summer we saw quite a few birds. Evening proved to be a better sighting time for us. This is a lovely, peaceful and beautiful place. We will surely be back in winters to enjoy Bharatpur in its full glory.

Bharatpur bird sanctuary, also known as Keoladeo Bird sanctuary, ranks first among the top 7 most visited bird sanctuaries in India. And this is all because of Salim Ali, the famous ornithologist of India.
The best time to visit is between November to March; however we visited in October and we're lucky to find the arrival of some of the migratory birds in addition to the resident birds of the park. The list of birds we spotted is exhaustive.
The best way to enjoy is to spend one full day from sunrise to sunset. If you are a photographic enthusiast, it is the optimal time you need to invest. Because, during sunrise and sunset the lights are best for capturing the birds and nature.
The 5 km stretch of road through the park can be covered by a rickshaw or bicycle. In case of rickshaw, the pullers are best guides who evwn provide you with binoculars for spotting. It becomes tiring to ride a bicycle and carry cameras while trying to spot birds. The best option is to walk down the entire stretch at your own comfortable pace and time, reach the canteen (end point), rest and rejuvenate, then stroll back faster.
Rickshaw takes INR 600/- for first 3 hrs and 200/- for each additional hour. Bicycles are rented for INR 150/-
A highly recommended destination for any nature lover and bird lover

On a couple of occasions I have gone along for bird watching/ sighting trails and come back sorely disappointed...this time was different and HOW!
We were a group of 5 cousins and 2 kids aged 8 and 9. We did not elect to take cycle rickshaws like others and instead rode cycles (they had smaller ones for kids too thankfully so if your child is about 4 feet tall, you are good to go). It was a 11km trail to and fro and we could all do it comfortably since you take intermittent breaks for the pictures and sightings.
We had a fabulous naturalist guide - Mr. Prakash! Very knowledgeable and he comes along on his own cycle, with binocs, tripod, etc so that makes the sightings infinitely better.
We saw soooo many species of birds and varieties of bats and fed turtles and saw spotted deer up close (who had no fear of humans since they probably had "close human sightings" everyday :D). We saw nests of painted storks and it was like being in a nat Geo program LIVE. How they were fed food and water and birds mid-flight! I could go on and on but suffice it to say it was the most magnificent bird sighting experience we have had!

We had a fantastic experience at Bharatpur. Thanks to the naturalist, Mr. Mohan Singh Solanki(8005645249)naturalistmohan123@gmail.com) who guided us in our trail. We covered our trail on foot from 7 AM to 4 PM and we spotted over 85 different species of birds. We visited during December end and hence we could see a lot of migratory birds.
Mr. Mohan also had a telescope which enabled us to see each bird with great detail and he was courteous to explain about each species in detail. Moreover he was really proactive in ensuring that we spot the rarest of the species and took great effort in taking us towards spaces which had higher probability of bird citing. He has lived right beside the park all his life, so booking with him you can support someone local. I highly recommend visiting the park and hiring Mohan. I would also recommend that you plan to spend more than half day.
We leave with a greater interest in birds and hope to go on many more of such expeditions.

It was an great experience to be at bharatpur bird danctuary today. Weather was excellent . Cars are not allowed inside. So you have to hire manual rikshaw which are 150 rs per hour these days . But the auto rikshaw person was himself a great guide and he throughout the 5 km way , stopped at required places and located siberian birds , chinese birds , snake fish and lot more. It takes app one hour to reach one hour from entrance to last point . At last place , there is a small restaurant having cold drink, chips and water.
Wash rooms are available at entrance and near restaurant.
I enjoyed the trip and recommend all young and old and specially biology students to visit to study the journey of siberian cranes who come from siberia to this place .
One bird is there which comes even crossing mount everest which is app 29000 ft which is unbelievable bit proved by the scientists.
A lot of foreigners are also there with big camera to have distant views and they wait for hours to reach the glimpse of rare birds .
Excellent

Also known as Keoladeo National Park ,this place is a few minutes drive from almost all popular resorts in Bharatpur. It is a sanctuary that hosts thousands of birds, especially during the winter season. Over 230 species of birds are known to be resident. The best time to visit would definitely be around this time as you can spot the migratory birds. Also, the temperature here rises post February so it becomes difficult to enjoy the beauty of the place. We visited this place in mid February and were sweating riding the bicycles already.
The santuary has govt assigned rates for tickets that you buy to rent a bicycle or a rickshaw as per your convenience. We chose bicycles as it was so much fun. You must hire a guide if you have a little knowledge about birds like us. Dont forget bargaining. The place is very scenic and serene. We spotted few owls, Siberian cranes, goose ,egret, kingfisher and painted storks
Overall it was a well spent day where I enjoyed the bike ride along with my husband and son.

Visited last week around 200 Kms from Delhi if you go via the national highway and few Km more if you go via Yamuna expressway and then through Mathura Both routes take nearly equal time if you start early the Mathura Bharatpur road which you have to take whichever route you come is bad at few points otherwise it is fine .
The entry ticket for Indian tourist is Rs 111/- per entry still camera”s are not charged but you have to pay if you take in a movie camera .
Car park near the gate charges Rs 60/- per entry and is very close to rickshaw stand
The 5.5 kms length can be covered either on foot or by bicycles available on rent or a cycle rickshaw which charges Rs 150/- per hour for up to two people
The rickshaw guys are regularly updated by the sanctuary authorities about the birds Some of them carry binoculars too. But if you wish professional guidance Guides are also available at the gate.
After about a km from ticket counter is the gate where your ticket is checked but even before you reach that point you can see birds on both sides of the approach road .
Near the gate where ticket are checked punting boats are available at the rate of Rs 405 per hour .I took the boat and it was a great experience sharing few pics of what I saw
After the boat ride if you go by road in the sanctuary you can see many birds after years of bad monsoons this year monsoon was good and there is a lot of water Good time to see is now till end of February if you are a real bird lover and covid permits one visit now and one in February is recommended

This sanctuary is breath taking. You have to see it to believe it. Check out my pictures to see a glimpse. Visit only between December to March as you won’t find birds for rest of the time.
Tickets are cheap. Hire a rickshaw inside the sanctuary, please take only government approved rickshaw. The government ones have a board on their rickshaw. The rickshaw puller is the guide. In all, it’s a 5 hour tour. Ask for binoculars from the rickshaw guy, he will give it for Rs. 200, it’s a must. Please don’t go cycling yourself, you won’t understand anything.

One of the Best Bird Sanctuary in India. You can spot lot of residential and migratory birds. Best time to visit is Dec to Feb. Need full day or two to fully watch Birds. Good if you take guides and binoculars. Rikshaw rides are also interesting. Boating is also available. Early Morning is best time and even sunset is very beautiful.
Overall very Good Experience. Haven for Nature Lovers.

Is there an option for boat ride also? How much does it cost? Is it a guided tour? What is the duration?
