Located close to the Railway station, this place is a must visit in Amritsar. It is Maharaja Ranjit Singh's fort.
Recommended visiting in the evenings. We purchased the INR 320 combo ticket. You should check out the timings of the shows on their site before visiting. Certain museums like Tosha Khana are closed on Mondays.
There's a 20 minutes 7D show. It starts off well narrating the story of Ranjit Singh who lost one eye at the age of six & yet went on to become the greatest Sikh ruler who was feared by the British & was responsible for bedecking the dome of Harmandir sahib with gold. Unfortunately, the Ranjit Singh saga ends abruptly and one is made to sit through a typical western 7D with its crazy roller coaster rides. Its a pity that the Indian animation creators did not consider pursuing with many other stories of Sikh valour - i.e. Banda Bahadur's exploits, Guru Gobind Singh's fights etc each of which could have been woven into a thrilling 7D narrative.
We saw the Sound & Light show but a lot of it was repeat from the 7D show. Also, it was quite cold sitting in the open in the winter.
There's a small Pagri Museum here. One can spend 15-20 minutes here. I found the trivia about history of turbans and various types of turbans worn by Punjabis ( special turbans are worn for Bhangras/ Amritdhari Sikh ladies wear turbans/ turbans are evolving with time to make fashion statements) to be interesting.
There are a few limited food options available.
We visited between 5:30 pm - 8 pm. One drawback , during night time the place is dimly lit and it becomes difficult to find the way from one attraction to the other. Unfortunately, there were no attendants to guide the visitors.

You would need a good 1 hour or so to cover the entire fort.

Charges for an all inclusive attraction is 400/- per head (actually 380 something but I can't recollect the amount).

There are tickets for lower denomination as well. Starting from 198/-.

Well it's mostly commercialized and sadly museum serves very little purpose.

What covers up is the 7D show and then laser show.

7D show starts only once they have 20-25 available audience for the show. It has no specific timing. I had to wait for just 5 min. Which is fairly decent wait time.

For laser show there are seats arranged and you can occupy them. But I took the marbel benches behind. Had no neighbours and could enjoy the show in comfort.

Here's my personal suggestion. If you do not know anything about Golden Temple, first visit the Gobindgarh fort and watch the 7D movie followed by the lazer show. Then come visit the Harmandir Sahib Gurudwara. It would make a lot of sense.

Btw, fort looks amazing in evening. And lazer show is on only post sunset, obviously!

I'm giving 2 star less as it's not disabled friendly. Certain sections had steps.

This place is a rip off and waste of time. The “Maharaja package” sold at 400₹ Indian/700₹ foreigner, does not include half of the museums inside. Food selections and shops are sad at best. Performances are quite pathetic and loud as well. I recommend against visiting this places, particularly for foreigners. Staff is rude and unhelpful

We went here after the Wagah border and as it was weekday, only the 2 shows and pagri meuseum were open. Both shows are nice and enjoyable for kids to know the history of Amritsar and Maharaja Ranjit Singh. The ticket prices are quite high though, so you can take only the 7D show for the kids and watch the lazer show standing outside the garden area itself to save some cost.

It is located in Amritsar city.Usually, people visit it in the evening since there is a Light and Sound show of 30 minutes. There is also a small Museum showing different Punjabi Turban styles. This was the place from where the British looted the Kohinoor diamond.

Cool place to visit in the evening.

I did not expect this from Amritsar. I guess this would be at par with the Laser show I had seen at Promenade in Singapore. The quality of laser, lights, and sounds were far higher than what I had expected from a Tier 2 city like Amritsar. It also gave me a lot of insight into the stuggles that Punjabi counterparts had to endure during the freedom movement. Overall, this one should be promoted and highlighted to tourists even more, but sadly it has not been.

The fort is colloquially called "Qila Gobindgarh". The fort was earlier occupied by Indian Army till 2006 and after that it has been handed over to the Punjab Government. The fort has a decent parking properly manned. The fort looks elegant by day and night. The basic entry ticket is Rs.40. Four type of paid activities are offered here Laser Show, 7-D Show ( Whispering Walls), Turban Museum & Fort Visit. The 7-D show & laser show is worth the bucks. Punjabi food is also available here at nominal rates. Horse & Camel ride is also offered. A must visit for people visiting Amritsar & especially first time visitors to Punjab

This fort highlights the life of Ranjith Singh and how he protected Amritsar and the Golden temple from invaders. They do have a Punjabi dance, a 7D show (worth it) and many museums at the fort. Must visit.

One of the best fort in India if you consider outdoor activities. The entry fee of INR 490 might seems a bit high but the number of activities included will nullify it. Two 7D movies, Punjabi music & dance, delicious food, horse & camel ride etc etc. What else one want?? 4-5 hours required for enthralling experience. Will definitely visit Amritsar again for qila gobindgarh.
