Mahalakshmi temple in Phonda is very old temple with a very Beautiful architecture.

When we visited there was some special Pooja was going on and It was Heavily Crowded. Parking here is bit of Issue and One Might need to wait for the parking slot.

Very good visit overall.

During Deepawali holiday in the first week of November 2018 while in Goa we came to Panjim to buy a home appliance. The shop we wanted to visit was closed because of festivities. That gave us ample time to visit the market as well as nearby Mahalaxmi temple. Because of Diwali day we were under the impression that it will be crowded but that was not the case.

It is located in the city & was open even when we reached there in the afternoon. The current temple opened on 28 February 1984. At the entrance there were few flower shops and once inside we came across huge Peepal tree and a lamp tower. There is another temple before the main deity. There are instructions markings on removal footwear. Temple walls are painted in bright orange red color. There are guardian statues & Tulsi Vrindavan just before the main hall. The temple hall is a huge place & can easily accommodate few hundred people. The temple itself is surrounded by several residential buildings. Next to it is another temple called Radha Krishna temple.

This time visit gave us good opportunity to visit this main city temple on a very auspicious day.

Its just on the side of road. It is just a normal temple, nothing special about it. It is not a tourist spot.

Temples in Goa were relocated from one place to other during Portuguese inquisition & many of them are in Ponda with steps which is a bit difficult to reach for old folks.

Local tourists who visit Goa with family visit city as there is a lot of shopping opportunities. One may feel guilty if they can’t make it to a famous temple & this one in the heart of Panjim is a good option.

This is a better option if you want to avoid far away & crowded places away from the city.
