The sao tome old quarter makes for a nice stroll and it feels as though you are stepping back in time. We really enjoyed the atmosphere of this area and the beauty of the Portuguese heritage.

A visit to the Sao Tome locality gives a feeling of the colonial Portuguese legacy. This old neighbourhood has beautiful heritage structures of altars, residences and old shops. Sao Tome was the patron saint of colonial architects, hence architecture of this area can be considered as one of the finest in Panaji.

Safe, bustling, full of sights and sounds and sensations that evoke tropical nights. We found the restaurant we were looking for after having given up the directions given in the guidebook: finding direction through indirection.

You don't have to be into history to enjoy a visit to the Old Quarter of Panjim - it's a charming, pretty area of historical significance with many old houses built in the Portuguese manner, sporting beautiful tiles and architectural detail.

We liked it for a stroll in the afternoon, we had lunch in one of those Portuguese houses, we were just passing through to go to north Goa, interesting but we probably wouldn't spend more than few hours there.

Stayed at the hostel in the old quarter . Even from the window you see signs on houses and shops . Take a stroll around and you'll see loads of Portuguese architecture. Very interesting.

This is the main post office. It is located in Fontainhas, the old Latin quarter of Panjim. It was once the tobacco trading house for Panjim and was located next to the state mint. The square opposite the post office used to be the site of public executions during Portuguese rule. Close by is the San Tome church

If you are in Panjim and in Altinho then yes, go here but it isn't worth travelling to from the other areas of Goa to see.Yes, the lanes are beautiful but then so is the whole of Altinho and it is no different to any other place in Altinho.

If you are visiting Altinho/Panjim you could save yourself time by not going here. The alternative to Sao Tome is Immaculate Conception church which is bright and beautiful and in the middle of Altinho.
