In the heart of Panaji city, at the beautiful location of river front is this Academy which was created to develop music, dance, drama, fine arts and promote cultural unity in Goa.
On the main road of Panaji, this river side institution is fabulous. The design of the academy is aesthetic and promote the purpose for which it was designed. There are facilities for screening of films, holding of competitions, exhibitions, workshops, seminars, discussions, debates, theater and performances by artists.
The best part of this academy is fabulous river front location. From its side, you can see river flowing, ships at a distance, sun setting on the horizon and life gliding by. There are benches to sit and just absorb the beauty of the place and the surroundings. If you are a nature lover and do not want the din and confusion of a Goa beach, this is the place to sit quietly by the river side and be with nature. It is simply lovely.
During our visit we could see a photo exhibition of castles in European cities.

We attended an international music festival at Kala Academy and were very impressed by their modern auditorium and professional sound system. If you have a chance to see a performance here you should not miss the opportunity.

Its a beautifully structured place with a waterfront at the back and you can sit and look out on to Reis Margos across the river as well as the other places with their dwellings lining the coast.... the boat and trawlers as well as the Casino' Joy rides pass you by. There is a quaint jetty and the whole thing culminates into the sea... A beautiful place to sit still and watch the world go by in the evening.....

Located in heart of Panaji, this awesome place offer many things to do, to see, to hear and to learn. You have theatre, classical music, literature, art exposition, dance and many culture. Furthermore, you have exibition, festivals, workshops and one beautiful space to walk, to enjoy looking the Mandovi River and eat some food in the cantine (beautiful food - indian and goan, amazing tea and everything is very cheap). For me, the best option to tourism in Panaji

Kala Academy is a world away from the hustle bustle of the city (even being situated right in the heart of it).
If you are an art enthusiast, The place offers you a good host of exhibitions, cultural festivals, theater and art performances across its galleries, open air ground, open air auditorium and a/c auditorium.
In case you are not, you can just go there to unwind from the rush of life. Sip a coffee in the stilted cafeteria by the lawns or just go to the back end of the premise and occupy a bench by the light house overlooking the magnificent Mandovi river. This area called the "Darya Sangam" (where the river meets the Arabian sea) allows you to experience the best sunsets. The river bed also has a wooden jetty giving it a movie like feel.
I suggest you visit the latter area once the sun is milder. It's a great place for friends to catch up as well as for some alone time.

Panaji Kala Academy is barely 1 km from Panaji Market - a short walk on the main road. It offers a calender of Artistic events. The day I visited a local school was presenting its Annual Program in the large Bandodkar Auditorium. The school program by tiny tots in primary classes, was simply mind-blowing. The overall atmosphere of goodwill, spontaneous energy & cheerful group efforts was heartwarming. Later in the evening 2 shows of a Marathi drama were scheduled. Panaji Kala Akademy offers a perfect evening of Fine Arts. An Expo on the premises offered a large variety of hand-crafted utility & textile & food products as an added bonus. A must-visit for any serious visitor to Goa !

I might have visited this place at the wrong time. Everyone recommended it. I just missed an art exhibit and only found an empty room. There was no information about events during the day I visited or what you could do there. There were events on other days. I did wander around but couldn't find anything going on. I did hear someone playing a Christmas tune on some instrument but that's it. Nice grounds overlooking the ocean. Nearby is an art park which was very nice. I think it was just the wrong timing. There is a movie theater there you can buy tickets for movie in Hindi. The building was very interesting but no information about it. It would be nice to have audio tours you could purchase or something. Plenty of great Indian artists that could have been displayed in the space.
