Nothing much to see here, it is just the ruins of the gate of Adil Shah Palace. It is very near to Viceroys Arch and many other monuments like Se Cathedral etc. it is said that here was the palace of Yusuf Adil Shah who was defeated by Portuguese and thus started Portuguese rule in Goa. Only the gate remains now and that to just the ruins. Can have a look at the site if you are in Old Goa.

Made of Basalt, intricately decorated by patterns and designs, this Gateway is the only surviving witness to the Palace which existed before it was demolished to make way for other structures. Initially, after the conquest of Goa, Adilshahi Palace was converted as the residence of the Governor of Goa.
Even after hundred of years and changes and demolitions in the vicinity, the carvings on basalt looks beautiful and impressive.
This is located at the approach road to Saint Cajetan church and should be looked for by those interested in history and architecture.

Once you saunter into the shadowy covers of the compound of the picturesque St. Cajetan Church in Old Goa, you might fail to notice on your left a gateway of basalt pillars holding up a horizontal lintel. It took me some time to figure out the location.
This is all that remains of a palace constructed by Yusuf Adil Shah, the sultan of Bijapur. The palace, prior to destruction, was the residence of the Portuguese Governor until 1696. It was demolished in 1820 for construction of new houses. This is the only remnant of the Adilshahi rule in Old Goa that is now dotted by a plethora of Churches.
The palace must have seen its days of glory. But now all that you see is the gateway and an informative plaque. Strictly for history aficionados.

Gateway of the Palace of Yusuf Adil Shah is a monumental arch in Old Goa. It's on the side of St. Catejan's Church. The structure resembles Portuguese era and makes for a good sight while visiting the church.

Gateway of the Place of Adil Shah is situated in the compound of church of St. Cajetan. There is only two pillar left, the palace was demolished in the 16th century. Even the arch on the pillar is not part of original palace as mentioned on board over their. If you are visiting St. Cajetan church you will be passed by this structure and it will not take more than 2 minutes to visit. This is not place worth for special visit.

Gateway of the Palace of Yusuf Adil Shah at Old Goa is simply an archway that remains (though restored) of the Palace of Yusuf Adil Shah (the palace building was demolished in 1820 by the government). You can locate it in the same compound as the Church of St. Catejan.

This monument an arch is a remaining portion of the palace of Adil Shah. It's really not more than the pictures show. It's on the side on one of the churches. As with other things the colonists destroyed a lot of the history here. It's a good stop, but sad. So much history just got erased.

Before Vasco da Gama established a Portuguese colony, Panaji used to be ruled by the Sultans of Bijapur. The only structure that remains from that period is this arch. Its not artistically or architecturally significant. it lies just beside the Church of St Cajetan.
