The place was really cool as it was a dam constructed over river krishna. Lots of rocks and pathways to climb to get to the top of the hill. The view from the top of the hill covers the whole city of krishna and vijaywada.

I like this barrage. Taking a few snaps is not a bad idea with Prakasam Barrage in the background. Traffic keeps flowing up and down so you hardly have time to take photos standing idle on footpath of bridge too.

Rainy season with full inflow and out flow is best time to visit. This is very old barrage finished in 1855 by the directors of East India Company giving irrigation to more than 1 million acres. The bridge is finished very lately and given name as Prakasam Barrage. Prakasam is first Chief Minster to the State Andhra Pradesh. Now buses and heavy trucks are not allowed on it but minis, autos and two wheeler are allowed. Traffic near to barrage is the main problem. Prefer walk to enjoy the real beauty of this barrage. This is barrage is just beside to very famous Indra Keeladri hill. This barrage is the source for bucking ham canal. Reaching to this barrage is very simple it is beside to NH 65 highway and at heart point of Vijayawada. Do not break the traffic rules here.

I suppose in a relatively smaller town like Vijayawada, in terms of number of attractions, the barrage is something to talk about. But in absolute terms, there is nothing much to see. From an engineering perspective, it might be of interest especially during the monsoon - but nothing much here.

One of the oldest Barrage constructed during Bristish rule more than a century ago. It is awesome to watch during monsoon when the gates are open .

This is one nice place to spend time. It is a calm and cool place. There are vendors selling ice creams and other food items and one can have them on the barrage having a look at the water.

I was born and brought up in Vijayawada. I love the breeze on the bridge, taking a tip on the other side of the gates, walking on sand (not so much now a days with no clean up at all), walking on the bridge, etc., Great place to visit at least once.
