The family visited Roatan on a Royal Caribbean cruise in November 2022. Gay assisted greatly with the arrangements; her email communication was prompt and precise. We were greeted by Murphy who transported us from the cruise pier to Coconut Tree Dive shop. Upon arrival at the dive shop the staff was warm and welcoming.

My wife, sister and our three boys went snorkeling at the reef and had a fantastic time; watching the abundant sea life in the warm waters of the Caribbean. Unlike the other snorkeling vessels we passed that were filled to capacity, our group had a very intimate and enjoyable experience. They had the entire snorkeling area around our boat to themselves. My sister who has a fear of underwater sea life was at total peace and felt extremely secure in the hands of the Coconut Tree team.

I had the opportunity to do 2 dives with our Dive Master Thibault, who was very accommodating and ensured the all divers were at ease for a pleasurable diving experience. Thibault was very responsive and shared his knowledge of various sea life with the other divers as toured the reefs. The family had sufficient time to do some shopping at the cruise ship pier before the ship departed.

I would recommend diving and snorkeling with the Coconut Tree team.

Beautiful reefs, new equipment for rental, quick responses to questions, and cheerful staff.

My wife and I came to Roatan as part of a Virgin Voyages cruise. We booked a 2-tank dive for 110$ per person which included transportation directly from the port of Roatan to the dive shop. Murphy droves us the 10~15mins to the dive center and took us back to port once we were done. Riley, the manager, was quick to respond to our emails and coordinated the transportation even after our ship was delayed. Juan was a great dive master; he set us up with equipment that fits, gave us clear per-dive instructions, and was attentive underwater. Juan even took us through some cool swim-throughs. The dive shop sits on the beach which meant we could snorkel before/after the dive if we wanted. There are also many restaurants and shop along the road and we walked to grab a snack after the dive.

We are definitely excited to come back again for more dives!

I came here with my boyfriend to take our Advanced Open Water Certification. Everyone at the facility was so knowledgeable, professional and truly loved what they did. Juan was our instructor, and he was just wonderful. He was so much fun and we really felt like we learned a lot. I would highly recommend Coconut Diver to come learn or just to go diving with!

My girlfriend and I traveled to Roatan specifically to complete our open water certifications. Oddly enough this shop was suggested to us by word of mouth while back in Canada and it did not disappoint.

Location:

Half moon bay is, you guessed it, shaped like a half moon on the west side of the Island. Roatan doesn't have addresses so you learn to navigate by buildings and landmarks. Just remember that the shop is located in "West End" if you're taking a taxi there. The bay is sheltered from the waves and an excellent place to relax on the sandy beach, go for a swim, snorkel the shallow reefs, and eat at a variety of restaurants and food stands. If you stay close by (as we did with Mame Trees - review coming later) you really don't need to go anywhere else.

Shop:

The dive shop is across the street from the bay. There are tables to work from, ample seating, bathroom, outdoor shower, and all the other amenities you would expect. It's clean, comfortable and can accommodate a surprising large amount of people. You will find it busy with new divers undergoing training, certified divers providing guided tours, dive masters and open water dive instructors undergoing training, tec divers and more. There is a convenience store on one side and a food stand with delicious local eats on the other.

The staff:

As anyone knows the most important part of any business/organization is the people. This in my opinion is what makes Coconut Tree Divers special.

Right from the start you feel welcomed and relaxed. There is a family atmosphere that emanates throughout the place. Whether they are busy teaching a class, getting divers geared up for the next boat, or relaxing having a post dive beverage, it's always the same, super chill and welcoming. Don't let the chill/relaxed demeanor take away from their professionalism, on the contrary; every member of the Coconut Tree team is extremely knowledgeable and professional, safety is never overlooked.

Shout outs:

Gay, your are such a positive force. It was an absolute pleasure to meet you.

Alex and Monty, hope to see you again when we're ready to venture into photography and Tec.

Riley, you're a fantastic instructor, we appreciated your calm knowledgeable approach. You took the time to answer all our questions and always made us feel safe.

Axle (DMT), thanks for all the tips and for getting my fin ;)

To the remaining instructors, guides, boat captains, we can't wait to dive with you again.

If you read this entire post then seriously, do yourself a favor, dive with Coconut Tree. If you're still not sure, just walk up the stairs, introduce yourself, grab a cup of coffee and go from there, you will not be disappointed.

Awesome place! We booked to practice and get educated to earn the "Scuba Diver" certificate, which btw, also credits you towards the PADI OpenWater certificate!

We didn't have any equipment at all, but they offered us theirs to borrow and just like that, we were ready for the first class.

Instructor speaks both english and spanish, fluently, to ensure you learn all instructions clearly in the language you're more comfortable with.

You will be trained in a safe confined water area, and the instructor will guide you step by step, all the way. Checking in each step that you understood completely and are capable of replicating the skills demonstrated. If you fail, worry not, just try again. Practice makes perfect. – The whole time, we felt very safe, so fear not... you're in good hands.

And of course, the location, ahhh the location, just awesome. It's in a perfect spot, literally in front of the beach. ✨

Alex the photo pro is not only a great under water photographer, she is also an excellent teacher.
I am a clutz when it comes to cameras. I had my Olympus tg6 over two years and could never get any kind of a decent photo unless I was on automatic. Without judgement but with kindness and understanding Alex taught me how use the different settings subsequently directed me on a path to become much better at taking underwater photos.
I would highly recommend coconut tree divers and especially Alex.

We were on a whistle stop tour ( part of a cruise due to time and money constraints) and wanted a good dive. Coconut Tree Divers were very helpful from the planning of the dive before we left the UK (via prompt emails) until the end of the day and getting us back to the cruise ship on time.
It was a very well organised dive trip from start to finish and the diving was excellent

I booked a solo trip to Roatan on a whim and booked with Coconut Tree Divers. I used their recommendations for places to stay and eat. I originally booked a 10 dive with nitrox package but ended up adding additional dives. I can't say enough good things about this dive shop. They really make you feel at home. It's an extremely friendly atmosphere from the shop to the boat. All the dive masters, Cruz, Tina, Shane, Aaron, Rachel, and Denver the boat captain, as well as the divemaster trainees, did an extraordinarily great job. Gay was a pleasure to deal with and always there to answer any questions. From day 1 she made sure I was introduced to everyone. I will say there was a very difficult guest onboard the 1st half of the week, that failed to listen to the dive plan and the dive masters did a phenomenal job dealing with that one person, but it didn't ruin the experience for everyone. It was also nice since there were several divemaster trainees (Olivia/Paul/ Rob/ Mateo) they could tend to divers that needed extra assistance. The boat had fresh water on it and a boat briefing of emergency equipment was given. There was plenty of room for a lot of divers, but the divemaster to guest ratio was always low. The divemasters knew the dive sites and briefed them well. The boat was an easy giant stride into the water and easy to get back on. The dive sites are loaded with great coral and lots of fish it's definitely a healthy reef. If you're going to come to Roatan, I'd definitely book with Coconut Tree Divers. I know I will be back.

Coconut Tress Divers is, the only diving facility in my travels around the world that I ever had a sense of loyalty with and the first facility I had ever book a return visit to.

• Driving force, everybody return safely after a great diving adventure, the money just pays the bills.
• From the start, I was given my own gear and locker for the duration of my stay.
• Within 48 hours, people were greeting my wife and me by name, at the facility and on the street.
• My top four diving experiences ever and I very much enjoyed the other fourteen as well.
• For the two courses I decided to take during my stay, I was provided with, one on one instruction.
• They got to know what diving experiences I enjoyed and did their best to accommodate.
• Based on experience, ability and task, small groups are made up to ensure the best experience.
• A hundred plus of the nicest diving spots to choose from, just minutes from their location.
• They went out of their way to spot and assist anyone having the slightest challenges with their diving. In my case, my gear had altered, which affected my buoyancy and body angle. It was noticed and rectified at the beginning of the next dive.

$$$ DOLLAR STORE $$$ – Coconut Tress Divers are big supporters of local schools. So if you happen to visit a dollar store before you come, all supplies are needed and very much appreciated.

Special thanks to; Gay Ted and Rachel

I spent 5 weeks at Coconut Tree Divers getting both my rescue diver, dive masters and side mount. The dive centre is incredibly professional through top of the line customer service and exceptional diving within a 10-20 minute boat drive. I could not have been happier with the dive master training I received as they continuously challenged you to be a better diver and provided a hands on experience by working in the shop. Coconut tree creates a friendly environment the second you walk into the shop and makes it hard to leave, especially after a post dive Salva Vida on the deck. I could not recommend a better dive shop to get any level of diving certification and also to have a fun filled dive trip with.
