First shopping center of the cruise ship in Roatan. Small shop and street vendors selling clothes, souvenirs and jewelry. Quaint and cozy area strictly for cruise tourist. To the rear are all the tours which are shore excisions to other parts of the Roatan island. You can spend a short time at the center, but the meat of seeing things and doing things are in other parts of the island. Cabs, coaches and small buses are available to search throughout the island. Locals are polite and very helpful and accommodating. Photo opportunities are available. Most of the action are in other parts of the island.

We had not arranged an excursion from the ship and decided to do our own thing. Not many shops in the port area, and the ones there were the usual overpriced tat. Outside of the port complex we were constantly hassled by vendors. It was incessant. Not their fault as they were only trying to earn a living. But from what we saw, Roatan is a very impoverished island a poor infrastructure, clinging on to tourism as the main industry.

We stopped here during a recent cruise. After getting off the ship at the pier, we met a group for an excursion and had a short walk to a bus. This walk was much shorter than ones I've had at other ports. After our excursion we returned to this area via bus. Rather than shop inside the gated area, we walked down the street less than a block and found several vendors selling local wares. We bought several items and compared prices when we returned to the gated area and discovered that the prices down the street were better. The port area has lots of shops and is clean with friendly vendors.

You can zipline across the bay. There's an information desk at the entrance then you walk down to a tower at the end of the shops. From there you zipline across the bay then ride a bus back to the port. I think the cost was $35 per person. If you have more time, you can also walk up stairs in the hills across the street and zipline through the jungle on several platforms.

We docked here on the Royal Carribean. We noticed that not a lot of passengers departed the boat in the morning. The port is very small and almost half of the port is under construction. The island is small and has high hills of greenery.

As we departed the port area into the taxi areas, we were swarmed by tour guides or taxi drivers haggling us, asking where we were going. The vendors were pretty aggressive, waving me to come over to speak with them. I wanted to walk out into the town on my own so I can just see the locals. As we departed the port area, there are a group of 10 to 15 men standing at the exit, holding signs for excursions. I had a man follow me and told me that there is nothing to see outside of the port, I would need him to drive me into the Town where there are tourist things to do. As we were walking away, the man continued to follow and try to make conversation.

As we continued to walk and talk, I noticed another 2 males following this one guy. It felt like we were being guarded. This made my girlfriend really uncomfortable.

If you are docked here on a cruise, I would booked a taxi in advance and go as a big group. Being 2 persons did not feel safe being there. I would suggest hiring a taxi driver inside the port as they are cleared to be there. While the men outside of the gate may be cheaper, you cant guarantee your return trip to the port.

We arrived in Roatan during a cruise with NCL just a few weeks ago and I'd like to share a few things with anyone considering venturing outside the locked gate that surrounds the cruise port. There are plenty of low-cost stores and kiosks. I was traveling solo and I found a great store way down at the end of the shops that had a sale of 50% off natural wood products and tons of inexpensive t-shirts and other goodies. I bought a few things there, then gathered all my strength of nerve and approached the gate to leave because I wanted to walk into the "city" of Coxen Hole. The closer I got to the gate, the more hands that were reach in to touch me and get my attention. Honestly, it looked like a scene from the Walking Dead! Once I got outside, it was even worse! ALL of them were crowding around me wanting to take me on a "tour" or just walk with me to point out "interesting" places. Believe me, there ARE no interesting places in Coxen Hole except one store that sold original crafts made by people who actually live and create in Roatan. I bought some beautiful coasters, the likes of which I've never seen anywhere else. If you're brave enough to walk to the city (about 15 minutes) you can get beers and sodas for $1.00 but the shopping there leave much to be desired. If you are the least bit leery of being approached by pushy strangers, including children, stay inside the gate. The Hondurans were extremely pushy, and I would not have gone if I hadn't done the walk around trip before. Stay inside the gate, and leave your jewelry in the safe on the ship. The time-frame I am giving is for strolling around the port, inside the gate. Most stores inside the port accent credit cards. There is some beautiful snorkel spots around the island, but think really hard before hiring a taxi to take you somewhere. Word of caution: If you ARE brave enough to take a taxi to the beach, be sure your driver agrees to wait for you while you are snorkeling and return you to the ship. Don't pay them until you are safely back on port property.

First time into this port. spent some free time here after returning from excursion. the Port is very small with only handful of stores. all for souvenirs, and restaurants. Make sure you bring your passport here, there's a small booth to stamp your passport here.

Had a great experience looking for jewelry in their store, with the help of Cindy Good who got us in the store, and Jessica Flowers who helped with finding different things to look at, and then the Manager, Luella Bodden, who helped us worked out the final details. We are very happy with our purchase and with the price we agreed on. We have purchased many pieces of jewelry over the many years we have traveled and always been satisfied with Diamond International

The little tourist village here is growing well. You can shop using American dollars and receive dollars back, not foreign money! Drinks are inexpensive, but food is expensive.
This is a busy port, but lots of places to rest. The shop keepers are not pushy and are super nice! Do not forget the fish who eat your dead skin off your feet!!!

We visited this port in March 2020 and loved it. Some tourist shops - a bit expensive but lovely items to buy. But the highlights were a nature walk with amazing views and a lovely beach with clear blue water and clean white sand right on the port. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Well worth a visit even if you don't go out on any excursions.
