Amazing old church on the top of a hill, with an unusual Renaissance style of paintings. Photography is prohibited inside, so you'll need to buy postcard or booklet. Great views of Lake Ohrid, Samuel's Fortress and the Ancient Theater. The only site the Secretary of State visited in Ohrid was here, so that speaks to its importance.

The Church is built in the old part of the city, and is dedicated to the Blessed Virgin (Bogorodica), the "omniscient and clairvoyant" (Perivlepta). The Church was constructed and painted in late 1200 CE. It is said that the painters of the church, two Greeks from Thessaloniki, have influenced later Byzantine ecclesiastical School of painting. Next to the church there is a building where you can admire a Gallery of the old icons. In the interior of the Gallery, as well as in the Church, taking photo is not allowed. This is such a pity because the Gallery of icons has beautiful old pieces and undeniably very precious.

I won't write about significance of this divine church, you can easily read about it on the Internet, if not in books. The impression I would love to share is that feeling of peace that overwhelms you once you are there. Somehow, once you step into the church, you become special to the rest of the world just as to yourself. Not in the world should you miss it.

This church is covered in beautiful Byzantine frescoes, including some still somewhat visible on the now-enclosed porch. The frescoes in the interior of the church have been lovingly restored. There is also a display of photos of old Ohrid (primarily but not exclusively early 20th century) on the porch. From the porch you can also see where a misguided person in the past put in some windows and doors, damaging some of the frescoes on the inside.

I recommend going with a guide around Ohrid if you are interested in the history of the town, as almost no sites I visited have any informational panels in English nor on-site guides. When we were at various sites around town, other people kept coming up to my guide and asking her questions.

Like most of the old churches in Ohrid, entrance is 100 denar.

The Ktitor's inscription on the western entrance of the narthex says that the church was erected in 1295 by a Byzantine aristocrat. After the Ottoman conquest and the destruction of Saint Panteleimon, the relics of St. Kliment Ohridski were moved here and the church was given the parallel name "Saint Clement".

Route suggestion: you can visit first the Tsar Samuel's Fortress and then this church because it is on the way anyway (going downhill), both attractions are very close to each other). It is recommended to go inside the church to check the paintings, frescoes. Entrance costs 100 denar. There was also an exhibition of old pictures of Ohrid inside. Many stray dogs in front of the church, only aspect which bothered me a bit. Still would recommend it.

This is the best church in ohrid in my opinion. The frescoes are vibrant and stunning and there are several small chambers to explore. When we were there the priests were singing in a nearby chamber and it was so atmospheric. No photos allowed as in all churches at ohrid.

Unfortunately I wasn't able to go inside Church of Our Lady Perivlepta but I did get a good view from outside. There are extensive restoration works taking place and ultimately will be worthwile once the restoration is complete. The church is opposite Gorna Porta and near to many of the must see attractions in the Old Town.

this is still the jewel of Ohrid. Lovely church with amazing and important frescoes that mark the change from medieval to Renaissance style. Inside of church is undergoing on-going preservation work, so large parts of the frescoes cannot be viewed, but what is visible is beautiful. During my visit, the lady running the (100 denar) ticket kiosk gave an exuberant (and impromptu?) tour, focusing on the tales told by the frescoes and certain important details (e.g., the tradition in Orthodox art of portraying the last supper around a round table). No photos inside (and unlike some other places, the policy is strictly enforced here).

I loved this Church with its beautiful artwork and icons which sits just outside the Upper Gate. The views are just amazing.
