Basically one room with icons, mainly from the church next door. The collection points out the importance of Ohrid as a cultural and spiritual centre since medieval times.

One of the finest collections of Byzantine icons in the world and very well set out. It contains an unusually large number of double sided icons. A small number of late icons (18th-19th century) make an interesting contrast to the ancient icons of exceptional quality. Many of the latter will be familiar to those who have visited the recent Byzantium exhibitions in London and New York.

It's not a large collection of sacred icons, but it's pretty inclusive of the Ohrid area and includes many fine ancient icons from the many centuries of Orthodox Christianity in this sacred area.

Usual 100 DMK admission fee to see centuries of icon(ic) art. Some pieces are inevitably more significant / better preserved / visually more pleasing than others, although all have descriptions (also in English). There is no real "background" info; a short panel detailing the history of icons ( something i freely admit to knowing next to nothing about), would help to "decode" some of the imagery, and make the gallery more approachable.

Since the was a mass going on I couldn't really take an intensive look around but what I have seen and heard was impressive. Devotion was felt.

Very nice and reach collection of icons worth to be seen especially to see them in original in the same way they were seen in the world's major cities and art capitals

I did not notice this Gallery when I visited the church located next to it. It has 2 floors of exhibits with the icons on the Ground Floor. The staff smiled when they noticed me not walking on the red carpet, but outside the rope and closer to the icons.

Most of the icons came from the church next door, the Mother of God Perivlepta plus other local churches.

The displays at the Lower Level are not as colorful as those of the icon. They are also not original per my guide inside this Gallery.

The Icon Museum is adjacent to the Church of the Holy Mother of God Peribleptos. Entry is separate and costs MKD 100. I would recommend a short visit here even if you are not particularly interested in medieval art, as it is a very fine collection. Icons are arranged in chronological order and very well displayed in two rooms.

Less than 30 high-quality icons starting from 11th century. Very well preserved/restored. Nice atmosphere while not too friendly staff. Major saints are Clement of Ohrid and Saint Naum, you can see how the details of their outlook vary in time.
