About
We’ve been around town for a while! Our school is an established destination since 1994 for visitors to study Spanish in Otavalo, due in part to our first class facilities such as comfortable, clean and cozy classrooms in a central location in Otavalo, WiFi internet access, a common room and patio for breaks and fresh air. We are within feet of the world famous Plaza de Ponchos.

Learning a new language can be really difficult and can take up a lot of your time. A perfect way to learn a new language is just going to the country where they speak it, force yourself to speak the language and combine this with language school.
That is what I did in Ecuador. I went to spanish school for five weeks and stayed in host families.
After three weeks of classes in Ailola Quito, I went to beautiful Otavalo for another two weeks of classes there.
I am still amazed by how much i have learned in a total of five weeks.
The main language in the school in Otavalo is Spanish, I never spoke English with my teachers so I learned a lot, really fast.
From monday til fridat I had classes in the school. My teacher gave me my books and notebooks, so the only thing you have to bring is a pen :) The classes are a lot of fun. Of course, the explanation of grammer is never really a party, but that's not the only thing we did. A big part of the classes was just chatting with my teacher about my homecountry and about Ecuador, so I learned a lot of conversation skills. Reading was also an important part of the classes.
In short, you can learn all important aspects of Spanish in Ailola Otavalo.
At 11.00 AM there is always a break, and you can chat with you fellow students. The schools provides coffee, tea and some bread.
You can choose how many hours of classes you want: 20 or 30 hours, in a group or individual, but you have to keep in mind that the school is very small, and the chances that they can find a group of your level are small. If they can't find a group, you get individual lessons for the same value that you paid for groupclass. So 20 hours of group classes is 14 hours of individual classes.
The school can take care of your accommodation, you can choose if you want to stay in a host family or in a hostel. I stayed in a hostfamily and I really recommend this. The families don't speak English, so you have to practice your Spanish right from the start! The families are very nice and after a couple of days it really feels like home :)
I recommend also checking out the Spanishschool in Quito, Ailola Quito. Maybe you can combine these two schools in your trip. The schools work in the exact same way so your classes are really good connected.

Hello Merlinde,
Many thanks for your great and detailed review.
Ailola Otavalo is indeed much smaller than Ailola Quito because most students travel to Quito but we are working on this. And with your review I hope other students will become interested, too ;-)
When we don't have other students in the same level, we need to convert the clss into private lessons which is also the best for the student. It's our demand to deliver quality lessons and that's only possible when the students have the same or very similar language level in class.
A combination of Quito and Otavalo like you did is always good to get to know both places.
I wish you all the best. Keep on learning Spanish!
Saludos,
Philip and the Ailola Otavalo team
