For those who love re tiles and admire the workmanship involved, this is the place to go in Otavalo. The demonstration on dye creation from insects, seeds and flowers; and how they color the wool from alpaca, then hand-spin it into yarn was incredible. Woven wall hangings and knitted sweaters and ponchos at good prices are great gifts to send home.

We visited this shop after having shopped at Otavalo - what a treat! The demonstration of traditional weaving and dying techniques was fantastic. The matriarch of the shop, Luzmila, spent over an hour with us, telling us about her family, the history of weaving in the town, and so much more. She is a warm and lovely person and the shop is chock full of beautiful items on sale. Don't miss this place! Ask a taxi to take you to Peguche and visit!!

As many others have said, this is a great place to visit and buy. The demonstration was fascinating (if one is actually a weaver one might want more information, but for ordinary tourists like me it is terrific - especially the dyeing demonstration) and the shop is full of absolutely beautiful things of many different types and different price ranges. (I wish I had bought more.) There is also no pressure to buy, and one can browse and think about things. This was quite a contrast from the Otavalo market where the vendors are non-stop pressure and I couldn't spend any time browsing and deciding. This workshop, on the other hand, gives no pressure at all; as a result I was able to choose what I wanted and love what I bought. Definitely a must for anyone interested in Ecuadoran textiles/weaving etc.

There is a live demonstration of the process of making yarn, dying it and weaving beautifully handcrafted items given by a mature woman who learned from her grandmother. You are allowed to take photos during the demo. The shop has lots of items for sale. These are high quality items and not some of the cheaper ones you find at other tourist locations so the prices may be a bit higher but I think they are worth it. Demo only takes about 15 minutes.
