We visited since it was close by, but, this is not an impressive church in any sense of the word. Rather plain on the interior, the stained glass windows are nice, but not much else. Do walk through when passing by, but don’t make a special trip - not worth it.

I was most impressed with both the size of this cathedral and the windows. In the middle of the day it offers a cool and quiet place to sit irrespective of your faith.

Lovely old building standing in the midst of busy streets. While the interior is clean and care is taken with upkeep, it lacks the grandness of days gone by. It’s a comforting place to take time away from the noice to reflect and pray.

This is an important part of any visit to downtown Guayaquil, even though earthquake damage has damaged some of the windows, ceilings and structural support. Make sure to see all of the public areas to learn about the importance of the church to the community.

"Catedral de guayaquil" or also known as "cathedral of Saint Peter" is located downtown Guayaquil in front of the "parque de las iguanas ". It is the principal church for the Catholic religion. This church has reminded at downtown for nearly 300 years so It is consider the most ancient church in Guayaquil even though at the beginning it was made of wood and was located in Santa Ana hill. It opens all days at week from 8.00 am to 18.00 pm. Many people visit it because of its architecture for example you can see beautiful towers built in semi-Gothic style, beautiful pictures, and images. It is considered one of the most important religious symbols of the city and it has received many renovations on its architecture. The church is crowded especially in Palm Sunday, ash Wednesday, Christmas and other dates. The church is big and it forms a cross. Local and foreign people visit it. The ambience is relaxing, quiet and peaceful, you can have contact with yourself and God.

My wife and I truly thought this was the prettiest church in Guayaquil. The outside is beautiful, but the inside is just absolutely stunning! We really loved the ceiling, as it was simple, but gorgeous!

It is definitely a nice cathedral and a good destination to see while in Guayaquil. Expect to see a lot of beggars around the building. There was a closed public bathroom just outside the church and people were using the surrounding areas as bathroom. Not pretty...I hope the local authorities do something about that.

This is modest by cathedral standards. Yet, it is loosely modeled after Notre Dame in Paris. The exterior had the twin towers, large rose window and peopled Gothic arched doorways of Paris, but on a smaller scale.

The interior is grand enough to be inspiring, but on a little more human scale. The windows have a lot of stained glass, in contrast to most of the cathedrals in Quito. The stained glass colors are predominately orange, yellow and red, a marked departure from European windows I've seen. It gives the interior a warmer, autumnal feel.

The organ is crisp and less rumbling than many, although that may have been the organist's choice of stops.

Overall, a worthwhile visit in Guayaquil.

This is the largest of the churches in Guayaquil and it has the most spectacular interior with really beautiful stained glass, some of which is quite new and modern. There's also a very small chapel at the back with nice stained glass, that's worth checking out. Very beautiful, peaceful setting.

Attended mass at the cathedral for Carnival Sunday - everything in Spanish but they do give out a little leaflet with the readings so you can follow along if you're like me and can't really understand the Spanish words they speak or read unless you can see them in written form. Holy Eucharist is given only by mouth - very different from what I am used to and at the end, there is a special part of the mass where they say an invocation to the saints (at least I think that's what they say) - also different from what I am used to for Roman Catholic masses. Lovely building, plenty opportunities for photos just do not take any during the mass - it's not allowed. Check the website for mass times, and they start promptly on the hour each time.
