After searching through various companies that offer similar Virunga trips I sent emails to 4 of them. All of them responded with offers but Virunga Amani's was the most professional, inclusive and fair priced. We had many questions throughout the planning stages of the trip, Jean Bosco @ Virunga was always quick to respond and cordial.
The trip itself was exactly as described, amazing gorilla watching and an epic volcano trek. The security was comforting, the lodging was luxurious and the food was tasty.
I can highly recommend Virunga Amani.

This was a very safe and professionally run tour. One of the best I have ever experienced. Border crossings were efficient, accommodations and fun exceeded expectations, and there are no words for being so close to the gorillas, or sitting on the top of an active volcano. Thank you for a great experience!

Virunga Amani is a great choice to experience this amazing volcano at a reasonable price. Jean went out of his way to pick me up and drop me at my place outside Gisenyi, and the border crossing was very smooth due to his good organization. Guides were professional and informative, and the food was quite good as well. I highly recommend them for all your needs in this beautiful region!

This gentleman I trusted without knowing him. I transferred money to him and he helped me booking a domestic flight . Later he helped me arrange a wonderful boat trip with a local boat. From Kisangani over the Congo river. When some things went wrong he helped sufficiently. The boat with many locals living and cooking on it was an exceptional congolais expierence . He didn’t charge much. If ever travel to Congo contact him. You won’t regret it

I had my doubts about this company at the begging even though all the reviews were positive but I sensed bad vibes from the owner. He took the money of 6 people including me for a tour in June. His company failed to provide the services and he refused to refund the money and ignored all the communications. Even those I know who contacted him after June, he refused to retun their money.
So be careful this company is a scam my advice is contact the companies that Virunga Park have listed in their site.
If you're planning anything with this company now, stop the process and do not pay a cent because they'll inform you after receiving the payment that they can not provide you with the tour and cut all the communications.

At first one word concerning Ebola: This is taken very serious by the local officials. Temperature screening and hand-desinfection was compulsory at the border and frequent hand-desinfection is recommended. We didn’t feel in danger because we didn’t come in contact with the poor people.
We booked our trekking to Nyiragongo volcano through Virunga Amani Tours and everything went fine. Contact was at first via mail, then WhatsApp. Jean Bosco is an absolute reliable man. In the beginning I was not sure to send such a big amount of money to Congo without having nothing but Jean’s word. We were not disappointed. He picked us up in Gisenyi/Rwanda, crossed the border to Congo with us and brought us to the starting point of the volcano trekking. He organized water, eating, porters and the cook (Amani, he is a very good chef) for us. This and sleeping bags and extra jackets were included in the fee. The hiking itself was exhausting, but everything went well. Jean cannot be recommended high enough and next time we visit Congo we’ll visit Kahuza-Biega N.P. with him to see the Lowland-Gorillas.

I traveled with colleagues in December to trek with the gorillas and it was a fantastic experience thanks to Virunga Amanu Tours (and Gene our driver)! We only had time to stay for one night making it a very fast paced trip, but Gene handled everything perfectly! I can't recommend this company enough! Thank you for a once in a lifetime experience!

Visiting DRC has been a lifelong dream of mine. A country with truly fascinating history, the size of Western Europe, with one of the last large swaths of rainforest left in the world, and with Mt Nyiragongo.
Jean who is the owner of the the tour company made it easy to plan the trip, from the first email I sent him, to the flight out of Goma. He is from Goma and has stuck with the country through its highs and lows.
It was a pleasure to get to know him and the country. I can't wait to go back.

I booked my tour with Virunga Amani Tours in late Jul 2019. There are two possible entry options that you can get a Visa letter to enable you to enter if you book a tour with the Virunga National Park 1) Fly directly to Goma Airport, 2) Enter through Gisenyi, Rwanda overland.
Jean Bosco from Virunga Armani Tours contacted me almost immediately after sending him my itinerary plan to DRC and was quick to arrange all my hotel bookings and visa applications so I could enter DRC through Goma Airport. A complete list of equipment needed for the hike was provided prior to my arrival (if you forget to pack these, you could buy them just before the hike at the base).
Ebola Situation is taken very seriously. There are many road checkpoints around Goma requiring you to wash your hands/ use disinfectants and take your temperature. Jean Bosco provided constant regular update on my concerns prior to my arrival.
Safety situation: it’s better now than before early-2019 as you are required to be escorted with armed park rangers. I had 3 with me throughout my hike in Nyiragongo. At no point I felt in danger during my trip to Virunga in DRC.
I went for the Nyiragongo Volcano climb and it was absolutely spectacular, although it was quite tough requiring intermediate hiking ability as the volcano is very steep towards the top. You could actually witness the lava lake in the crater and small eruptions at night. The sheer magnificence of the volcano even got my travel story featured on 2 local newspapers in Singapore. Jean Bosco and his team will not disappoint and they will ensure that you will leave DRC with a memorable and safe experience. I will highly recommend using Virunga Armani Tours when visiting Virunga Park & Kahuzi in DRC!

Virunga Amani Tours is a solid and reliable company, and I would recommend it to anyone visiting Virunga National Park and Nyiaragongo Volcano. Communications with Jean Bosco were timely and effective, and the tour was organized well. He helped me hire a driver from Kigali to the border, and back to Rwanda on the next day. Good value for the price and an overall positive experience. The only part I didn’t like was the extra costs for renting a sleeping bag, a walking stick, or that there was no pick up available from my hotel in Gisenyi to the border, though everything was clearly stated in the emails prior to booking.

I like to if you go to eastern parts of the country and what kind of security is there on the tours. Is security really needed or are travel websites exaggerating?
