Nice place to visit, offers a great overlook on the city history. Everything is well decorated and arranged. Building it self is very nice, well preserved, view thru the windows on Danube side of the castle is beautiful especially from the terrace on the top floor.
Place to see and visit for nice 2h tour thru the city history.

One of my favorite parts of traveling is the serendipity of just sort of bumping into places you didn't know where there. My daughter and I were walking around Vukovar during a river cruise stop and happened upon this amazing museum. We went in without any expectations and were absolutely blown away by the exceptionally well conceived displays, the breadth of the material covered, and the way it felt totally accessible to English speakers. I've been to a lot of museums in my life and this was really one of the best. From information about the geological history of the area to displays on the history of different people who have lived in the area over thousands of years to detailed information about the Eltz estate and family (whose "castle" this museum is in) to an incredible display on what happened in Vukovar during the siege in the 1990s, this museum has it all. I couldn't believe that it wasn't listed in any guide books or on Trip Advisor but apparently it was really badly damaged during the siege and didn't reopen until quite recently. I just can't recommend it highly enough! If I had it to do again, I would spend at least two hours. Unfortunately, the place doesn't have a website yet so it's a little hard to get detailed information. In fact, I'm not even sure of the hours. But if you happen to be in Vukovar, this is the first place to put on your list!

One of the best museums I have ever visited, and I had it to myself. I went from the loess geology to the war with Serbia, with Neolithic pottery, folk costumes, maps of the Eltz estate, beautiful furniture and much more. All the exhibits are in Croatian and English, and admission is only 25 kuna (under $4). The Viking River Cruise I was on had a free afternoon, but did not highlight this gem. You won't be disappointed.

I had not expected to find such an impressive collection considering how small Vukovar is. The museum has multiple floors, one for each period of the city's history. You will find objects from the period before the World Wars as well as authentic clothing worn by locals back in the day.
The best part is, as one would expect, on the Independence War period. Moving photographs and chilling remains of objects are on display. Aerial footage of the town during and after the war is displayed.
Well worth a visit

beautiful museum in the center of Vukovar. About the history of the owners the Eltz family but also about the history of the region. it was damaged badly during the war but they did a great job rebuilding it! The movie about the siege of Vukovar, how the city was damaged and how the city was rebuild since than was very impressive!

This tour is the most interesting thing to do in Vukovar! Gorana was our guide and she was great. Her extensive story made us feel like we lived through all that history of the city. It is impresive museum.

So, entered the museum at 11:30 and got out at around 16:30 - guess that says about enough. But anyway, the museum is packed with information about the city and the museum and their history, a gem for anyone interested to know a bit more about the place they are visiting. I would definitelly recommend taking a "Vuseum" card that on top of the visit to this museum grants you an enterance to tje Vučedol culture museum, another place you sjould not miss if you're in the vicinity.

I remember castle Eltz from app 10 years when it was compleatly demolished from the war. I was realy suprised how great a restauration was done.
Museum is a great place to visit and learn about the history of Vukovar, which is rich.

The museum had a chilling touch of reality. It was just over twenty years that the town was virtually destroyed by war and to be that close and actually see some of the artifacts in and out of the museum was really impactful. Definetly worth the visit.
