You can enter Trogir on foot from one of the old gates of the city, this is perhaps the least spectacular but the one that most people usually use because it is the one that overlooks the area that connects the small island with the mainland.

On the cornice above the arch once stood the lion of St. Marks and, above that on a pedestal, stands the statue of the Blessed John of Trogir, one of the town’s patron saints.

North Gate is one of the gates located in the surroundings of the old town of Trogir, in Dalmatian Coast. It is a stone gate, not very well preserved (it is almost impossible to see the wall) and you can see, if you walk around the old town, near the promenade.

Would say I wasn’t blown away by the north gate, clearly has history to it dating back many centuries, but compared to other gates not only in Croatia but Europe it’s just good.

Really a quick photo and you move on, see if close by bit would say it’s a must do.

Dating back to the 15th Century, the Sjeverna gradska vrata is the northern gate to the entrance to the Trogir's old walled city. The structure is adorned with a statue of St. Ivan Ursin. The Gate features a splendid Renaissance design with rounded arches and banded columns. A set of stairs leads to the ramparts of the gate where you can get a close up of the statue.

There is not much to say about the North Gate other than that it is most likely the first key medieval construction guests will encounter when crossing the bridge from the mainland. It is a very charming spot and a great way to enter the medieval city streets.

Gate to enter Old Town from the North of land side. A short walk leads you to the central square and the main sights.

And this is probably the better of the two as the arch on the cornice has the Lion of St. Mark, the symbol of Venice, and just above on the pedestal is a dominating statue of St. John of Trogir (patron saint of the city), who served as bishop in the 12th century. It’s not far from the main square so even if you do not enter this way it’s worth searching out for a photo.

Often used as a meeting point. You will probably start your walk around the town here. We had a private guide which was great. You miss a lot of the important detail otherwise.
