We stopped here on our drive from Novo Mesto to Zagreb parking near the farmers market. It was a short walk up to Tomislav Square where we crossed the small Gradna River to the cathedral. It was closed but from here we could see the distant 13th C Castle ruins.
Going 2 blocks upstream, we crossed a covered bridge to the 1772 Manor house of Croatian composer Ferdo Livadic, whose friend, Franz Liszt, had visited here. It's now the Regional Museum but workers inside told us it was under renovation and closed. We then circled around the manor’s garden and back to the lively square to see the 1830 City Hall.
Nice active town just over the Slovenian Border.

This museum holds a medieval battle fair every year in march. They set up military camp with fortifications, medieval kitchen, swordsmen, archers... Armored knights walk alloround. You can also see battle machines such as catapults, cannons, ballista and fire balls. Beside the museum and this fair I just love this small town near Zagreb. It is very picturesque and wonderful for walking. After visiting museum must-do is to go to eat Samoborska kremšnita!

Quite frankly I would prefer to stay here and visit Zagreb than vice-versa. Great village with lots to do, climb up to the castle, people watch at all the outdoor cafes and eat their famous cake.

A nice and interesting place where you can find out about a town of Samobor, it's history and little facts that makes it unique.

Very interessant Museum.
This Town is not so far way from Zagreb and you can easily visit starting from Zagreb.
Some Tours agencies organize it, or you go with normal bus. I went by rent a car and stay there +- three hours. Enough time to see the small village and enjoy a good coffe and typical cakes. You can also use the city as Basis to visite another places in the region and for many other activities.
I really enjoy this village.

If you are interested in the history of Samobor this is the perfect museum for you. They have some nice exhibitions and the explanations are also in english. The most interesting thing is the house next to the museum that shows how people lived in the past.

What a great little museum! The staff were amazingly helpful - one showed us round a separate building which had been turned into a peasants' home, full of costumes and all the furniture of a flax farm. Looms, bed, kitchen, all explained. The other building had some delightful artifacts. Well worth a visit

This little museum, situated in a lovely little park, has a bit of everything; Samobor's history, old documents, art, natural history... doesn't take too long to go through it, but it will keep you interested. I definitely recommend it.

The museum is a very nice one.
Ground floor shows the history development from the prehistoric time to the 20th century, and the upper floor has some nice exhibits from samobor generally (also from
Stari grad) and from this house specifically.
There is a nice model
Of the samobor castle (stari grad) so if you just came down from the castle it’s nice to see how it looked like in the 18th century.
If you ask the person over there he can open you another house outside where you can see an old Croatian village house.
Unfortunately not everything is written in English.
Good solution for spending an hour in samobor.

If you want to find out something more about Samobor, this is a cool place to start. Also, it has that "historical" vibe, you can almost feel like you traveled back in time.
