- Veronika H3 contributionsBeautiful place undergroundIt is an interesting place to visit: a cave with beautiful "sculptures" made by Mother Nature. The guided tour lasts about 40 minutes and you can hear a lot of interesting facts and stories. You have to be fit enough to climb the 270 steps.Visited June 2023Traveled with familyWritten June 30, 2023
- FimSonneberg, Germany5 contributionsThrilling, interesting and cooling - but exhaustingInteresting and cooling mini-adventure. The way into and out of the cave are really tough, though. Especially if you have disabilities or are a senior. The way down into the last hall is especially difficult. Otherwise you should definitely check it out if you are around.Visited August 2023Traveled with friendsWritten August 11, 2023
- Mark RSt. Albans, United Kingdom62 contributionsA fun cave visit - good option on a poor weather dayWe visited the Baredine Caves during a wet period of weather. This meant it was busier than usual. We queued up for about 20-30 minutes and bought our tickets but the earliest slot for an English speaking tour was about 2.5 hours later. Luckily we were staying close enough to go back there and come back later. For those unable to do this there are a couple of small exhibitions and a cafe but not a lot else. As for the tour itself, when your time comes you enter a covered area and meet your guide. They give you a quick introduction as well as a warning that it is 270 steps to the bottom and then the same number back up. We took jumpers as we had read it could be cool in the cave but didn't really need them. You descend into the cave and at various points the guide will point out the sights. There is only one way in and out so it also provides a point where other groups can pass you in the opposite direction. The caves themselves are quite impressive and there is quite a lot to see in the forty minutes. At the bottom there are a couple of albino amphibians to see that live water at the bottom of the cave you see on the tour. On the way out you walk up all the steps in one go. The tour was good and well worth seeing.Visited August 2023Traveled with familyWritten August 17, 2023
- yellowdog5160 contributionsA scenic cave, well worth the trip (stair warning)We love visiting caves. We are weird that way. When we planned our Croatian adventure, we were presented with a wide array of caves we could possibly visit. We chose Grotta Baredine. Don't know how it stacks up against all the other caves in Croatia, but we sure liked it. It's a beautiful drive just to get to the place. The price of admission was quite reasonable. Our tour guide was a friendly, energetic young lady who gave the tour in both English and German. Unlike some of the caves we've visited in the past, this was a much more "vertical" experience, as you plunge almost straight down into the earth. According to our guide, there are 270 stairs that you descend during the trip into the cave. And yes, you will be ascending every one of those same steps as you exit the cave. You'll have thighs and glutes of iron by the end of your tour. The cave scenery was beautiful and quite well-preserved, with little evidence of past vandalism or souvenir taking. Well worth a visit!Visited October 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten October 24, 2023

This place was pretty cool to visit however it advertised English speaking guides and they were very good however German came first then English so our children did loose some interest with waiting.
I would wear trainers but it wasn’t so cold as to need anything more then a t shirt or light jacket.
DO NOT EAT HERE food was honestly horrendous we had sausage and chips it was inedible we had some chips and left all the sausage.
Good choice of ice lollies though.

What an adventure into the earth below! The tour guide was funny and engaging. We really enjoyed our descent to the 60m below topside world of the Olm. There were two of these unusual creatures awaiting us to examine im their natural environment. The formations of stalagmites and stalactites were awe inspiring.
Definitely worth a visit as it’s not too long a tour.

Cave is great. You can see animals inside and is really clean. Not dangerous at all and beautiful. Not really big but is rich of water. Outside is really chilling place too with bar and clean toilets. Animals and playground with cute galleries. Roads are nice and a lot of parking. 10/10

We visited Baredine Cave, which is privately owned, while we were on holiday in Porec and it was an enjoyable and interesting experience. This is the only ‘open’ geological attraction in Istria and it provides a fascinating glimpse into Istria’s underground world and features a shimmering lake with intricately decorated chambers. The tour lasted forty minutes and our guide was very good and spoke English.
It is advisable to wear sensible shoes, not flip flops, as it is very slippery on the steps and I found it a bit cold inside so I was glad I had taken a warm jacket with me.
We heard a sad but interesting story about the legend of Baredine Cave. It goes like this: Gabriel, a nobleman, fell in love with a beautiful shepherdess named Milka from Nova Vas. His mother hated the idea of her son consorting with a lowly farm girl and when she realised he really loved the girl, she hired bandits to kill her. However, instead of killing her, the robbers took the mother’s three pieces of gold and threw Milka into Baredine Cave. When Gabriel discovered what his mother had done, he frantically tried to rescue his sweetheart and disappeared. His horse was found wandering near the cave, so it was presumed he had gone in to find Milka, but neither was heard from again. The legend goes on to say that Milka’s body eventually turned to stone in the cave and was slowly sinking to another chamber where Gabriel had been waiting for her for centuries.
We had a great time exploring and would recommend a visit to Baredine Cave – there are many tour excursions available. The stalactite and stalagmite formations were amazing and the blind white salamanders were hard to spot. However, this activity is not suitable for people with walking difficulties or young children and definitely not for people with claustrophobic tendencies.

I would recommend a visit to the Baredine cave, it is beautiful and offers some relief from the mid day sun. Beware though it is a difficult and steep walk up, i wouldnt take a toddler as they would need carrying.

From Porec it's about a 20 minute drive: go North on the D75 and eventually go East on the Z5042 towards Nova Vas/Visnjan. Once you get to Nova Vas just follow the signs to the caves. Enjoy!
