- NNSM123445Oftringen, Switzerland66 contributionsAdventurous and a good change 😎It's a great experience. The tour was in German does not go too long and is varied. Everything very clean and well maintained. A good way to do something different than the “beach visit”. The cave is about 15 degrees. Very pleasant at 34 degrees outside. ☺️🇭🇷Visited July 2024Traveled with familyWritten July 12, 2024
- MyNameIsMarioItaly59 contributionsProtein: Bianca and GeorgeVery interesting visit. The cave is well maintained, the staircase is steep but easily accessible even for children. The Guide explains well in Italian (included in the excursion). It was exceptional to see live two Protei put for dissemination purposes in two natural tanks by speleologists.Visited August 2024Traveled with familyWritten August 10, 2024
- Mikołaj S7 contributionsChamber of Croatian AxolotleInsane Croatian axolotle 🫶🏻 I recently had the chance to explore an amazing cave with a guide, and it was a fantastic experience. From the very start, the atmosphere was captivating – the raw beauty of the cave walls, the shimmering stalactites, and the cool underground air made it feel like stepping into another world. The guide was knowledgeable and shared fascinating details about the cave's history, geology, and wildlife. But the highlight of the tour came at the end when we spotted a salamander! It was such a unique and unexpected sight, adding a special touch to an already unforgettable adventure. Highly recommended!Visited September 2024Traveled with familyWritten September 26, 2024

We visited the Baredine Caves during a wet period of weather. This meant it was busier than usual. We queued up for about 20-30 minutes and bought our tickets but the earliest slot for an English speaking tour was about 2.5 hours later. Luckily we were staying close enough to go back there and come back later. For those unable to do this there are a couple of small exhibitions and a cafe but not a lot else.
As for the tour itself, when your time comes you enter a covered area and meet your guide. They give you a quick introduction as well as a warning that it is 270 steps to the bottom and then the same number back up. We took jumpers as we had read it could be cool in the cave but didn't really need them.
You descend into the cave and at various points the guide will point out the sights. There is only one way in and out so it also provides a point where other groups can pass you in the opposite direction. The caves themselves are quite impressive and there is quite a lot to see in the forty minutes. At the bottom there are a couple of albino amphibians to see that live water at the bottom of the cave you see on the tour. On the way out you walk up all the steps in one go.
The tour was good and well worth seeing.

Really exciting to see and learn about the cave. Also a nice experience for our two young kids.
The tours are quite organized and limited to groups of about 20-25 people every five minutes.
When it’s raining, which it did pretty hard when we went, the waiting area is a bit too small if you don’t want to get wet and also want to sit. If you are ok with standing up when you are waiting for your turn, you can do that under the shelters though. We had to wait about an our hour for our turn, but had no issues finding a place to sit and enjoy a coffee and an ice cream.
The tour is safe for kids, but if you have trouble walking on stairs or have a bad heart, it’s not for you.
The tour guide was nice and informative, but you could tell it was the same drill for her each time she guided a new group. Which is absolutely ok, since the information she provided was really interesting.
Finally, it was really great to see an actual living Olm in its natural habitat.
We would recommend a trip to Jama - Grotta Baredine

A wonderful cave in the border triangle of Italy, Croatia and Slovenia.
Very beautiful facility, clean and with a very caring guide.
You forget that the way back leads up 270 steps. Afterwards, we can only recommend visiting the exhibition on site and, if you still have time, looking at the very caring and interesting tractor and agricultural machinery exhibition 100 m further on.
It is best to buy a combination ticket straight away.

The cave can be visited in about 40/45 minutes and is located 6 km north-east of Porec, Croatia. It has a constant temperature of around 14° and visits are only possible if accompanied by a guide (available in several languages, including Italian).
The peculiarity of this cave, made up of 5 rooms, lies (unfortunately) in the encounter with the proteus: an endemic and underground amphibian that inhabits only some specific karst areas.
With the entrance ticket you can also visit the tractor museum. Furthermore, it is possible to have climbing or speleology experiences (clearly for a surcharge).
Be careful because the descent to the caves is steep and the steps are narrow and slippery, so equip yourself with a suitable sole. Furthermore, there are a couple of uncomfortable and narrow passages, so take this into consideration if you suffer from claustrophobia also because you go down to about 60 metres.

This place was pretty cool to visit however it advertised English speaking guides and they were very good however German came first then English so our children did loose some interest with waiting.
I would wear trainers but it wasn’t so cold as to need anything more then a t shirt or light jacket.
DO NOT EAT HERE food was honestly horrendous we had sausage and chips it was inedible we had some chips and left all the sausage.
Good choice of ice lollies though.

Nice experience. Cave has beautiful stalagmites and stalaktites and special species of animals. Our guide showed us shapes of cave ornaments like elephant ears and spaghetti. You definitely have to be careful but I recommend visiting it, especially with a guide.

It is an interesting place to visit: a cave with beautiful "sculptures" made by Mother Nature. The guided tour lasts about 40 minutes and you can hear a lot of interesting facts and stories. You have to be fit enough to climb the 270 steps.

Nice, beautiful outing, even with young children (8/9 years old). Doesn't take long and is nice to get out of the sun for a while! Costs are €11 for adults and €7 for the kids, but we thought it was definitely worth it. It wasn't too busy (5:00 PM). Don't forget to visit the exhibition further down the site!

We went to the cave in bad weather with no expectations. Right from the start we were positively surprised by the organization with short waiting times and guided tours in different languages. The visit itself lasts about 45-60 minutes, the guide enjoys his work and was always in a good mood. A visit is recommended.

We love visiting caves. We are weird that way. When we planned our Croatian adventure, we were presented with a wide array of caves we could possibly visit. We chose Grotta Baredine. Don't know how it stacks up against all the other caves in Croatia, but we sure liked it.
It's a beautiful drive just to get to the place. The price of admission was quite reasonable. Our tour guide was a friendly, energetic young lady who gave the tour in both English and German. Unlike some of the caves we've visited in the past, this was a much more "vertical" experience, as you plunge almost straight down into the earth. According to our guide, there are 270 stairs that you descend during the trip into the cave. And yes, you will be ascending every one of those same steps as you exit the cave. You'll have thighs and glutes of iron by the end of your tour.
The cave scenery was beautiful and quite well-preserved, with little evidence of past vandalism or souvenir taking. Well worth a visit!

How do I get there from poric
Written August 30, 2017
From Porec it's about a 20 minute drive: go North on the D75 and eventually go East on the Z5042 towards Nova Vas/Visnjan. Once you get to Nova Vas just follow the signs to the caves. Enjoy!
