Plitvicka jezera, Plitvice Lakes National Park 53231, Croatia
The park opens at 8 am and there are lines waiting to get in. This place is over run with large buses full of tour groups. The wooden walkways are narrow so it's impossible to pass or walk at a faster pace. It ruins the...More
I don't think this was worth the 3 hr drive from Split and a 2 night stay in the area. Parking is 6 Euros and is 1.6 kilometers to the entrance. There you wait for the shuttle which leaves every 20 minutes. Then the ride...More
We got to plitvice around 9am to avoid the crowds, and took 'Route C' from Entrance 1 (you have a few different options of routes around the park depending on how much walking you fancy doing). The park itself is wonderful - never seen such...More
We had been there at the last days of August. That place was amazing. Spectacular views, sounds of water, autumn leaves and the water was crystal clear..we took bus from Zadar and stayed one night near the park. We visited upper lakes and lower lakes...More
At face value just looks like lovely lakes and waterfalls cascading down. Not the most spectacular you will have seen if you travel (wales has some of the most amazing waterfalls), but very plentiful. The different types of foliage and wild flowers were very interesting...More
This National Park is, deservedly, the biggest tourist attraction in Croatia. The scenery is absolutely extraordinary. The colors of the lake waters are magical and mesmerizing. Well worth going early to enjoy
Amazingly beautiful crystal clear lakes. Easy hike around. Upper lakes become very crowded as the morning moves on. Lower lake sinking trails especially on far side from buses much less traveled. A definite must see.
The place is astonishing and overwhelming, but it's so crowded that I couldn't enjoy it.
The administration it's not up to the job, they should clearly sell a limited number of tickets and limit tour groups as they overcrow and yell at every inch of...More
This is one of the best places to spend a day anywhere in Europe. It it stunningly beautiful. Lots of long walks to the various areas of the park. The waterfalls, the clear azure blue lakes, the forest trails are just like something out of...More

Hi - we did the opposite journey a few days ago (from Plitvice to Split), the journey takes just over 4 hours and we were on the fastest bus so doubt you can do it much quicker. It’s important to get the bus that goes direct as some buses stop in a number of towns along the way and it’s then much longer than that. I believe the earliest bus to leave Split is at 7am and it gets to the park at about 10:30 am. It looks like the second bus is the 8:30 bus you have found. We stayed in Plitvice and spent two days in the park - there is enough to see, however a full day would also enable you to do the whole park. We wouldn’t personally fancy a guided walk as it’s easy to negotiate yourself. We saw lots of tour groups snaking around with guides but this means you go the route that they take you which are the busiest routes. It is really down to your own preference though. It did seem quite pricey too compared to the cost of bus and entry combined. We enjoyed our visit, the colours are fantastic and it’s a beautiful park - if busy at times.

My son visited in October and it rained a lot. We were there this summer (late June) and the weather was beautiful. The place is gorgeous--rain or shine--just stay nearby to the park and bring rain gear. Happy travels to both of you, and remember, "Hvala" means "thank you" (and it sounds like 'fala.')
