The Red Fico Monument is one of the oddest war memorials you'll likely find anywhere, but the story, recorded in several languages at the site, is one of incredible bravery in the face of adversity. Osijek is not the kind of place that Croatia is known for amongst tourists, but this testament to the Croatian peoples' fight for independence is one that visitors should see.

Known as the Red Fićo to locals, or the Battle of Osijek monument, this is an absolute must see in Osijek. On 27 june 1991 a red fićo blocked the path of a YNA tank which didn't so much as stop before crushing it. The picture was famous worldwide, and a video titled "Crveni fićo" shows the whole scene unfold. This is a monument to that event, however now the tank is the one being crushed (by nothing other than the fićo), to remind everyone of the independence that was fought for. Awesome concept and execution, don't miss it!

As we were driving through Osijek today we saw this monument at the roadside but did not know what it represented, thankfully the internet provided an explanation and actual footage of a red Fiat being parked as a form of protest in front of army tanks the little car had no chance...but what a statement.

This monument is a must see in Osijek because of it's history. During the Homeland war, on June 27th 1991, a red Fićo (Fiat 500) tried to block a tank of the serbian army exactly on this location. This is the reason why the monument isn't at some other place where turists are more frequent.
It's a nice memory of the past.

Interesting monument, but you can't spend here a lot of time. If you are nearby, go and visit but otherwise it's not too exciting.

the crossing of Vukovar and Trpimirova is a place you have to see in Osijek because that tank of the JNA was mercilessly overwhelmed by the red "fiq" which forever remained the symbol of a great force trying to defeat the weaker and the more powerless.

Really great to see such a meaningful monument but it'd be even better if you know the background story. But even without the prior knowledge, it's a statement all people should understand.

Significant impression, strong empathy with Osijek! Revives first moments of homeland war in 1991., and way to freedom.

This is one of the monuments in Osijek that I can't stand. It perfectly sums up all the people who live there and still live in the past. What an awesome thing to remember - war. Well, not so much. It's essentially a monument dedicated to a "Fićo" car which stood in front of a Serbian tank and got ran over by it in the end.. You get the gist.
