This place, in fact, is one of the largest salt flats in Croatia and is managed by a company. On site, there is ample parking, a store, an interactive and historical museum, and it is also possible to stroll peacefully through the colossal salt extraction area. Remembering that it is not every year that visitors will see workers extracting salt, as this only happens at specific times each year. You pay US$10.00 per person, but it's worth visiting this place just outside the historic center of Nin.

And there is also edible fleur de sel there. Rich in minerals and with positive effects on health, “fleur de sel” is highly appreciated and its price can be up to ten times higher than that of common salt. Those who like sweets will probably be attracted to the souvenirs at the Salt Museum, which include products that use salt such as chocolate and cookies of different flavors, unique due to the use of Nin salt, and whose supply is limited due to low production. But, prices can be expensive.

The small museum gives an impression of the production of salto in 3 small rooms. 11 euro is too much foe this. On the cimpound you can walk towards the bassins but you can't enter. The shop has an great variaty of salt products and is sleeper then the shows in the town of Nin

This place is a must-to-visit! If you have teenagers or small kids, great place to "kill" two hours.
Take guided tour. Very well explained. Bi lingual tours also possible.
Very interesting for school trips too.
It's a bit expensive if you decide yo take museum and tour tickets but it's worth it. They should offer discounts for whole package!!
If you need to choose between museum and tour, choose tour because museum is actually only two rooms. Very polite employees. Place to visit!

Ladies and gentlemen,

on September 10, 2024 my wife and I visited the “Salt Museum” on Nin.

Right at the entrance, a small “signposted forest” pointed us to the left of the parking lot. We parked the car and went first to the shop, which we noticed very positively, as a rich assortment is nicely arranged and run by 2 women nice and supportive. We stocked up extensively and made our way to a “museum”.

The signpost forest (signpost) is confusing, because if you follow this you will either stand in front of a building (if you go right in front of the sign) or the path does not lead into, (if you go left)

Only the toilets are adequately signposted.

Opposite the salt shop is a building where it says on the door that you can buy a ticket in the shop.

What do I do with the ticket and above all what is offered by purchasing the ticket?

There were 4 Dutchmen and 2 people from the Netherlands also standing in front of this building at a loss.

IMPORTANT. Information only makes sense if it informs.
Information in at least 4 languages is a great advantage here.
What can be seen in the building, what is on display, whether you buy a ticket is then left to everyone.

None of us bought a “ticket” because nobody knew what to expect.

After the building on the left you came to a large area, a large salt mountain can be seen, here again a sign (in several languages) that a guided tour is only with a guide.
Again no indication what the tour includes, where to register for this tour, what it costs, what you see, how long it takes, etc. You could possibly visit the toilet beforehand.

The lack of business here is enormous, of course you can inform yourself beforehand on the Internet, but in the place so little information is very sad.

We will visit the museum again next year to see the positive changes.

Until then – good success

Excellent tour through the saltworks, production of salt presented by professional guide. The house of salt is a very nice museum showcasing the history of salt harvest in Nin. We bought great salt products as souvenirs.

Tours at Solana Nin and Salt Museum are very interesting. Learned so much from the educated team. The souvenir shop is filled with amazing products and is for every recommendation. It is very easy to order via the website too. Anyone who is near Nin should stop and visit Solana Nin.

The museum of salt is small, but so interesting. The space is one of the nicest and most informative I've ever visited. Large photos with captions show you how difficult the process of extracting salt used to be (and probably still is to a large degree). They also sell nicely packaged different types of salt, which make nice souvenirs. As in all of Zagreb, the people who work there are very nice.

We had a couple of hours free in Nin and on impulse took the 1 hour tour. Our guide took us through the salt flats where we learned all about how salt is harvested and all about the wonderful flower salt (which is best to use after cooking for taste). So much history there from decades of salt production, all farmed by hand (with some help from mother nature).

The museum is also a superb preserve for many birds including the Egret as can be seen taking off in the picture!

Their oldest worker is still there today, over 75 years old and big as an ox. They call him Little! Great small museum and gift shop as well. Tours are at 10, 11, Noon and 2pm.

Go! You want to learn about salt? Go! Very informative, engaging tour. Please don’t be a jerk and show up in a swim suit or without a shirt on, it’s a real salt farm with tours that take their craft seriously. We learned a lot (who knew this salt farming was 2000 years old??!) and a great gift shop that sold their wares on site otherwise pay more in a boutique shop elsewhere in Europe and even more overseas. You like salt?, visit this place as it’s one of three of the top producers in salt. Super glad our family went, our 12
year old loved it.
