About
Visovac is a little island owned by the Catholic Church, situated in the area of the lower flow of the river Krka between two waterfalls in Krka National Park - the Roski waterfall and Skradinski buk. Prior to human habitation of the island, it was only a "White rock" in the middle of the lake. It got today's shape thanks to the work of the priests that brought the land to the shallow water and separated it from the water with a wall, so the island with its vegetation became a "little paradise".

The monastery is in a privileged place, an island nothing more and nothing less. We found out that this wonder was thanks to a blog I read before traveling, definitely if you are in Skradin, and come to Krka National Park do not hesitate to visit. We could not go to visit the little island, because we were told that they closed at 16:00, to be a tourist site they should close the sites a little later, but well still the site is beautiful, we enjoyed the views, the swans and nature. It's fantastic🌿🍃

The monastery is beautiful, with a exquisite church, museum and grounds, replete with peacocks, vegetable garden and orchard.
We took the boat to the monastery from Krka National Park. You have to see everything in 30 minutes. C'est impossible! Frustrating.

We went to Visovac by car, and took the 5 min crossing to the island. Coincidently it was Sunday morning and we arrived for the mass only with locals. It was a very special experience.
Also turned out much better than spending hours on a boat especially as that morning was a bit cold.

The Visovac Monastery is located closer to the city of Drnis than Sibenik and there are two ways of getting there, one by car and waiting for a monk to see you on the other end or by the Krka National Park boat that operates between Skradin and Roski Slap (the boats stops on Visovac for a short sightseeing tour of the island. In August during the holy day festivals there are literally thousands of people visiting the island on a single day and I'd suggest avoiding these days. Otherwise its a pleasant island to visit and the tranquil quietness of the island is a must for all to experience. There's a breathtaking view from the top of the mainland before your drive down to the meeting point for boats directly across the island, something that travellers visiting the island via the Krka National Park boat service do not see. Simply breathtaking views from above.

A tiny little island that lies in the middle of an enlargement of the Krka. A Church and a Franciscan Monaster are the main attractions, together with a museum, containing the tinyest book on earth (3.5 mm side with the Padre Nostro prayer) and the Edit of the Sultan Muhammad IV that states the monks can go back safely on the island. In another room of the museum stand some pictures with the devastation caused in only 4 years during the war against Serbia: alomost every church in the region has been teared down.
A small souvenir shop and a bar let you buy some memories of the island and some refreshment.
A small but very "calming" garden around the complex would be able to calm the most boiling spirit... but in only half an hour you cannot manage to see everything.
As soon as you boeard off, some very nice and smart guides will tell you the story of the island and the monastry in several languages.
I wish the time on the island could be extended to at least 2 hours...
A small souvenir shop and a bar let you buy some memories of the island and some refreshment.

I did the 2hr boat trip and have to say I was underwhelmed! It takes 45mins each way to get there, the scenery on the way is pretty but unremarkable after the first 5mins. You get 30mins total on the island and a "guide" who trotted out a 3min blurb then left us to explore. The island is peaceful and pretty but I wouldn't say it's a must-do on your Krka NP visit.

Beautiful small island with a monastery and museum, surrounded with amazing garden.Monastery which is located on the Krka river, where the Franciscan order and beauty of glorious nature made the perfect combination of mysticism, spirituality, God's presence and the beauty of nature in one place.

We went to Krka national park and entered on the (most commonly used) Lozovac entrance. Free parking and a ton of people. After using the bus service to the falls we bought boat tickets 3 tickets for a total of €37. It is a 2 hour boat trip, including half an hour on the island. We thought we were going to see the falls, little did we know: the falls are in the other direction...with about 10 people on the boat it took about 40 minutes on calm water to reach the island. It has a little museum, a monastry, including the church and a little shop for drinks, snacks and souvenirs. 30 minutes is short, but you will be able to see it all. You can choose to go with the guide, or by yourself (what we did). The place is unique, and therefore worth visiting. The boat trip back and forth is not too exciting. Have fun!

In general no, but on Sundays when they hold masses there is an opportunity to travel on the monastery boat that meets people on the shore directly across the island. On August 4th and 15th there is a major event on the island with literally thousands of worshipers visiting the monastery for religious events and people travel to the island from shore with loads of private boats offering a taxi service for a fee. The monastery boats do not charge for the service, only private boats and its about 5 Kuna per person.
