Makarska can get pretty crowded and noisy in the summer and if you want to escape from it, like I sometime do, then the St Peter peninsula is one of two best places for that (other being across the harbour). I liked the park and remains of old church on the top. Under is a villa now owned by famous German industrialist, and I enjoyed the view on the beach and mountains from the lighthouse too.

Worth visiting for half an hour, a great walking opportunity with relaxing atmosphere, nice plants and sometimes friendly stray cats :) And of course with a nice view to the sea.

Practically in the center of Makarska, between the harbor and the longest beach, this peninsula, formerly (100 years ago +/-) an island, is a great place to have shots on Makarska and its background mountain with its hamlets. Doesn't matter will you take the walk from harbor (E) or beach (W) side, you have to came to the peak of the peninsula with its medieval (now renovated after the earthquake happened in 1962.) church. Around the church there is plateau here with archaeological remnants of antique wall structures, once a part of a larger complex with its own-that-time church that dates back to 6th century. Nice place to take rest and to have kids run around while you sit on the bench and enjoy the sea view of Brač and Hvar islands.

Starting in the harbour its interesting to see the harbour from the opposite side to normal. The statue at the entrance of the harbour makes a good picture. From there you rise gently along the wooded cliff tops to St Peters which seems to appear from nowhere amongst the trees.a long but manageable flight of steps (with a good railing for those like me are partially disabled) takes you down to the sea line and you walk to an open point overlooking the next bay with a lighthouse on it.Turning back towards the land the peninsular, which is almost an island becomes low sloping rocks into the see, great for sun bathing and swimming. Its a mini snap shot of the differing coastal features in the area with a variety of bids and butterfly's. You need around an hour but give it a little more and savour the walk. Its a bit of an oasis away from the bustle of the beach and market.

Allow at least half an hour if you are just walking - more if you want to stop to admire the views, which are good. There are 61 steps up to the chapel, but there are benches to rest on. You can reward yourself with a coffee beside Makarska harbour.

We stayed at the Makarska Meteor Hotel and we could see the said peninsula from the promenade and thought we can do that! My wife and I are 130 years between us but this beautiful walk was easyish! The views are fabulous including the nudist beaches, if you like that sort of stuff, it if you don't like looking at walnut skinned individuals, then just avert your eyes. Croatia has lots of nudist beaches, so if you really want the all over tan, this is the place to get it, because there are so many secluded beaches. Each to everyone's taste. What a super country! Crack on!

This is a nice place to take a walk if it's too cold to go swimming. The booth selling locks were closed when we were there, but no hard feelings. After walking up to the statue, we continued on one of the paths, wich wasn't as nice because it was obvious people use the area as a toilet, it was littered with toiletpaper and wetwipes everywhere.
Go see the Love Locks and the statue, and return the same way for the best experience.

Reached along the water front, from Makarska's harbour, and then up towards the statue of St Peter holding a key facing across the harbour. A small peninsula, with a number of walk ways leading up to the 13th century St Peter's Church, mostly wheelchair friendly, although we did find the route from the Church down towards St Peter's lighthouse included a section of stairs.

Plenty of seating areas for those who need the occasional rest, and well sited to take in the views, with a pleasant and easily manageable walk round the coast leading round to the city park and back to your starting point. A lovely way of spending a leisurely hour or so.
